ARCHIVED Confused On What To Do
kareng replied to MrsNewman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Testing for thyroid & anemia years ago need to be repeated. Just because your thyroid was functioning years ago, it may not be now. You might not have been anemic then but you could be now. -

ARCHIVED My Mother In Law Is Making Me Nuts
kareng replied to JoyVertz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good Mom! Not getting to see the grandkid might work. She would have to show me, under my watchful eye, for a year at least, that she gets it. That includes no derogatory comments that the child can hear. She can ask questions, that's OK (as long as they aren't snarky). I don't know how old the child is. If she is old enough to stand up for herself... -

I was thinking - chasing bugs, pecking the other chicks, digging up the neighbor's garden. -

Probably will hurt for a couple of days. Imagine getting you hair pulled out! Ouch! Poor chickie! With my kids, if they are busy with the next thing, the road rash is ignored. -
This is just making me mad that you would even consider this! Depending on the state you live in, sending your child to stay in an environment that you know is unsafe, is child neglect, medical neglect and or child abuse!

I think I responded to this on another thread. Sure! Every responsible parents sends their kids to stay with someone who has openly admitted that they will poison the child. You & your hub would even consider this?

ARCHIVED My Mother In Law Is Making Me Nuts
kareng replied to JoyVertz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
She sounds dangerous to your child right now. If she kept offering or leaving around something dangerous like alcohol or pills, what would you do? You & hub need to severly limit or keep your daughter away from this woman. When she wonders why she can't see her, have hub tell her why. She doesn't care why you want her to stay away. You are an evil... -

Because you are new to this, limit your exposure to her. Let hub do things with her. When you have figured this out, then you can be around her. Then state it once then ignore her. Or don't respond at all. -

There was a Tv show on years ago called "Eerie Indiana". These kids found odd things happening in thier town. ONe was some kids that stayed in "5th?" grade for the last 30 years. They slept in tupperware at night so they stayed fresh & young. -

ARCHIVED Accidentally Ate Gluten/wheat But No Reaction?
kareng replied to speedy2056's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just re-read this. You have only been "gluten/wheat free" for 12 days. Going to a bar that can't tell you what is in the food & then actually eating it, tells me you haven't really been gluten free for the whole 12 days. When you are ready, really try the gluten free diet for a few weeks and see if you feel better. The problem with this gluten... -

Glad you found some nice places. You don't need to call Kraft. This is thier statement about gluten. Some stores will tag the store brands that are gluten-free but not the name brands. Open Original Shared Link . If a Kraft product has an ingredient that is a source of gluten, the specific grain will be listed in the ingredient statement, no matter... -

That doesn't mean they are not gluten free. You react to something in them. Sometimes it is hard to figure out what. -
ARCHIVED First Time I've Been "glutened" Since Going Gluten Free
kareng replied to Nicoly's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Does she use those pans for wheat flour cakes? They probably had a bit of wheat flour in the cracks and it got into the gluten-free cake. It's not always a good idea to eat what people who are not gluten-free make. Too much chance of cc. -

Cleaning the carpet. The oldest caught a stomach bug a few days ago and there was spillage. Why can't an 18 year old, who is not drunk, make it 20 feet to the bathroom? On a happy note, it forced him to do a bit, only a bit, of cleaning of his room. Next time he's sick, it's off to Manna's in- laws! -
ARCHIVED In-Law Frustrations
kareng replied to melikamaui's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hey Melika, Relatives are soooo frustrating sometimes. Here is one thing to remember: If they aren't around your sick kid on at least a weekly basis, they won't get it. They aren't living with it. They aren't thinking of it every minute in various ways. What is all consuming to you right now, isn't to people not living with you. Good to remember... -

There you go! You found one with corn! Makes you wonder what is in our cleaners & if corn is a normal ingredient? If its an alcohol, supposedly its probably distilled. But...if it were me & I had problems with corn, I would try to find something else. Maybe white vinegar? -

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed, Pretty Overwhelmed With Everything

The basic rule is : if it has scratches, cracks, small holes or seams where crumbs can hide - get rid of it. Glass sounds OK. Just was well with vinegar or something to get any slimyness off. -
ARCHIVED Do I Need To Worry About Corn In Dishsoap?
kareng replied to Newtoitall's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
First - Mummy is new & didn't know why it might matter. Soap residue was probably something she hadn't considered. Call or email the dishsoap company and ask. Then, if you feel you got a helpful answer, you could copy it to this thread & maybe help someone else with a corn problem. -
