ARCHIVED Shampoo, Lotions, Dryer Sheets?
kareng replied to kali-mist's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Try googling " shampoo" for example. Read the newer ( last year or so) ones. The google search for the forum is in the upper right corner. Sorry, I got cut off by a sudden clap of thunder, a scared 75 lb dog and a teenager out riding his bike in the storm with friends! -

So my mom is in the hospital. She'll be fine. She had alot of fluid retention in her legs. She probably waited too long to tell the doc. This is a different hospital then she was in before. She is supposed to be on a low fat low sodium diet. In the previous hospital that would have meant they wouldn't give her a pack of salt. When I called to order... -

ARCHIVED Okay, So Is There A Safe Chocolate?
kareng replied to Harpgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I forgot about this one. I haven't tried them because they have only recently been sold here. www.cocopotamus.com While we were at it, we went that extra step and made our chocolate truffles all natural, wheat-free, gluten-free. And, we vowed never to use any corn syrup in our chocolate, let alone high-fructose corn syrup. It's on that banned list... -

kareng replied to james-12's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome James! We have the shampoo discussion alot. In the upper right corner of your screen, we have a google search of this forum. Just search shampoo. Watch the dates because products change. But I know we have had some mentioned in the last few months. -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Something I Ate Safely Last Week
kareng replied to Austin Guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Anyone else use the BBQ sauce? We have had the tutorial on pour the sauce from a couple of inches above the glutenous burger bun. My boys remember well. They actually pour onto the meat not the bun. Hub forgets. Touching the sauce bottle to the food isn't a good idea anyway. Anyway, you have to watch out for those sneaky gluten b$$$$$$$s! -
ARCHIVED Genetics - Can It Skip A Generation?
kareng replied to melikamaui's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm no expert on which genes mean what. He had to get these genes from his biological mom or dad. He did have a blood antibody test? I don't remember if you said. This is from the Celiac Center in Chicago. There is research going on that may change this slightly but they tend to take the conservative approach. Open Original Shared Link How is... -
I like DQ. I usually get a plain cup of "Swirl". Just my favorite. Anything mixed might be an issue because they do mix cookies in the Blizzard. Not sure what is in the mint flavor. It is usually served with oreos? Allergy info: Open Original Shared Link Added: looks like they include malt in the wheat category (probably should be called...

ARCHIVED Genetics - Can It Skip A Generation?
kareng replied to melikamaui's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
About 30% of the population in the US has the genes commonly associated with Celiac. Just because you have the gene, it doesn't mean it is "activated" to cause Celiac. Everyone in your family for the last 20 generations could have the gene but not all or even any might have active Celiac. If you have the gene, you got it from one parent. If you have... -
ARCHIVED Peppermill Restaurant Napoleon Ohio
kareng replied to Bubba's Mom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
WOW! Someone on here suggested this. I can't remember who but it is a great idea for this situation. For the steak situation. Cut a little v out of it before sending it back. Then you can see if its the same one without the onion rings. A salad with croutons - hide one on the bottom. This doesn't keep them from cooking food on bread... -
ARCHIVED Should I Still Call It Celiac Anyway?
kareng replied to Harpgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tell them Celiac Disease. And if they don't understand, tell them wheat allergy. I know Wendy's workers understand allergy. You really don't have to explain the whole medical history to anyone but us. -
ARCHIVED Dealing With The Extras Of Celiacs, The Things No One Talks About.
kareng replied to Marley25's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with this. You have only been trying to be gluten-free for 6 months. Apparently, you have had gluten a few times as you are learning what & where to eat & not eat. So.. You really aren't gluten-free for the full 6 months. -
ARCHIVED Publix Granola Bark Gluten Free
kareng replied to kledford's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Things can be gluten-free & not labelled gluten-free. However, unless they specify gluten-free oats, it would be considered not gluten-free. Oats are very likely to be contaminated with wheat. Harvesting and storage use the same machines as wheat. Even oat companies will tell you they are not gluten-free. Also, people who are new to the gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED New And Curious
kareng replied to pipermarau's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You can get a crockpot for $15 at Walmart. Throw in some pieces of chicken or a small roast or briscuit & a bag of frozen veggies and some water or broth. Salt & pepper. Or 2 cans of beans, package of chili seasoning ( check for no wheat - Williams & McCormick are both probably OK) 1 can diced tomatoes with onions, 1 can tomato sauce ... -

ARCHIVED Advice Getting Our Granddaughter Tested
kareng replied to Korwyn's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The doctor can't talk to the grandparent without permission or court ordered custody about the patient. But the doctor can listen or read a letter you send expressing your concerns. People do this all the time when they tell their elderly parent's doctor that they are forgetting things or not acting like themselves. -
ARCHIVED Soggy Pizza Crust
kareng replied to coffeetime's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Just seconding the flipping! Pre bake more than you think you should then flip and top. Also, I got a pizza pan with ridges that is supposed to allow the hot air to get under the crust & dry it out. -
Hey Amy, I found this list : Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Sounds like everything can give us gas! Maybe you can try to eliminate one group of veggies - like green leafys and see if you are better that day. For me raw leafys are worse than the same thing ( spinach) cooked. Same with broccoli. Also, just stay...
