  1. If you can't stand up to your MIL, can your husband? Did he see that her food made you sick? Maybe he can help you with this stuff. When my MIL was alive, I wasn't gluten-free. We still had to tell her someone else will cook cause she was undercooking meat and alot of dangerous cooking practices. For you, your MIL has dangerous cooking practices.
  2. I felt tons better 3-4 months. Carefully took my vitamins in the proper way. That got to be a pain.
  3. I saw that on tv. At the back of my mind, I remember someone else with this. Maybe a child?
  4. You got a point on those grasshoppers.
  5. The general rule for eating bugs is, insects not spiders. If the insect is furry or colorful, don't eat it. This is just a basic rule. If it's ugly and brown, with 6 legs and 3 body parts - yum! (barf face). That's the rule if your kid is determined to eat a bug. Grubs, worms, some spiders and caterpillars are edible.
  6. Are you saying I scared them off?

    ARCHIVED Blogging

It shows up in the middle, like its a blog.
  8. That's what I do. I get skim milk lattes with splenda in them. They always want to stir the splenda in. Each Starbucks, depending on the size, operates slightly differently. I just look at what they do and I don't make a fuss. I just say I have food allergies.
  9. I bet you're all dying for an invite to dinner at my house, now!
  10. The restuarant is going in the old Pizza Inn (being re-done) at Park & Midway. They have just started (Monday) looking into what it will take to do gluten-free. I hope its not too discouraging.
  11. Actually, "cilantro recall". Not safe to eat anything you don't grow or kill yourself.
  12. About the only things I buy that are specifically gluten-free and, as a result, pricey, are bread, pasta, cookies, and baking mixes. You don't need the cookies and deesert mixes very often. There are corn based pastas that are cheaper than Tinkyada rice pasta. Found some at Walmart - Heartland brand I think it was.
  13. My Starbucks is very careful with the spoons they use to stir. But we still came to the conclusion that the safest is for them to put it in the cup and I use a straw to stir it. A few of the flavorings may not be gluten-free and spoons at some stores are only lightly rinsed between stirring of different cups. I think the "can't guarentee gluten-free...
  14. No. Actually, I live in Kansas City. My BIL/SIL live in Plano. He is starting a "healthy fast casual" restuarant in Plano. Looking into the gluten-free certification for restuarants. Should open in December. I'll let everyone know when it does. I really like PF Changs. I feel safe eating there. One of the owners has a daughter (?) with Celiac.
  15. When you eat in the school cafeteria with 6 th graders, what do you expect? I guess you have to find friends your own age. Actually, if you are going through Chemo, the comment that you don't look sick is a compliment. I am flabbergasted that with Chemo, they weren't more sensitive. I usually get the"Oh, that's right! Sorry!" when I say I...
  16. Read the little print paper that should come with the drug. Is nasuea and constipation a common side effect?
  17. Good morning! I must be bored. I'm on another thread telling people which insects are safe to eat.
  18. (Serious face) Most spiders aren't good for humans to eat. The general rule is not to eat spiders. Insects that are not furry or colorful are ususally a good source of protein - cockroaches, ants, grasshoppers, earthworms. And all are gluten-free, dairy and soy free.
  19. Isn't that funny? We are done with football season so can't use this move.
  20. Was just at Chipolte for my son who is not gluten-free. The guy who rolled the flour tortillas up, used his gloved hands to get the cheese.
  21. I think it is. Read the ingriedients. I prefer Herdez brand. They don't have any odd things just the stuff you would expect in a salsa.
  22. Ditto. Also, with the girl friend. Next time, either get your portion first or say " can we just get the veggies and corn chips and skip the bread? That way I don't have to worry about crumbs.". Then if she says, " But Jason, Honey, I really love that dip with bread". Don't melt. Just suggest the clean spoon that stays in the dip and doesn't touch the...
  23. My hub has this. His was all year round. His dermatologist said to use cerave cream. At night put some gloves on over it. You get them at pharmacies and beauty supply shops. This has helped a lot. I contacted Cerave in Feb and was told it was gluten-free. Also, olive oil is well absorbed by the skin but is greasy and smells.
  24. Make it a day ahead or at least in the morning to eat later. Really tastes better if it sits in the fridge for a while. One time I thought I would add shredded carrots to cook with the potatoes to add some vitamins. When I pureed it, it turned an awful orangey color.
