I think that - knowing it is actually an option to not go - its your choice to go or not - helps me. If I choose to go, but don't have to, I find I am happier to put up with the inconveniences and stupid people

do you have kids? Just hang out and play with them. If you don't - hang out and play with the other kids? If there are other things to do, like hike or play horse shoes, or something, maybe go do that. Take the host's dog for a walk. I once went to my husbands big bosses party and sat on the floor in a quiet corner, with my glass of wine and the host...

It is an option not to go. Might not be the best choice, but it is an option. If you choose to go, just bring something really yummy and some treats. Then realize that if they aren't rude or nasty about your food, they would find something else to be that way about. That is just how they are.

ARCHIVED Unwilling to poison myself for the blood test
kareng replied to Kurasz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gluten is very hard to digest, especially with a damaged system. So is dairy and acid and fatty things. That is why I said "bland diet". But it doesn't really matter, one way or the other. Those foods that you listed, assuming homemade, are gluten-free. So gluten probably wasn't the culprit this time. What concerns me is that you don't seem... -
ARCHIVED Unwilling to poison myself for the blood test
kareng replied to Kurasz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If all of this is homemade food, you should be fine (gluten free). If you are eating at restaurants, you are likely not as gluten-free as you need to be to heal. But I am not really sure gluten intolerance is your problem, just a symptom. IF I had "my stomach was enlarged and my colon shrunk. There was also some narrowing in my intestines... -
ARCHIVED gluten free bakery
kareng replied to cstark's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This part is confusing to me. " for the goodies that are considered hands-off due to gluten." Is that a typo or are you eating goodies with gluten? Worded oddly? -
ARCHIVED Sami's Bakery NOT gluten-free

Alos, if you look at ordering from them - there is no such disclaimer -
ARCHIVED Sami's Bakery NOT gluten-free
kareng posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Open Original Shared Link "Gluten Free Watchdog recently had three products from Sami’s Bakery (Millet and Flax Chips, Millet and Flax Lavash, and Plain Millet Bread) tested for gluten. Samples tested at a level of approximately 80,000 parts per million of gluten (see photo of final test results). According to the lab, “Based on these results, Bia Dia... -
ARCHIVED Dairy Queens special cotton candy blizzard. Is it gluten free?
kareng replied to PurpleKhajiit's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would say that none of the Blizzards are gluten-free at Dairy Queen as they use the same mixer without thoroughly washing it between flavors. Some of the flavors have gluteny cookies in them that could still be stuck on the mixer. As a side note - I am extremely surprised that a "Super Sensitive" such as yourself would even consider eating anything...- 2 replies

ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy - scared!
kareng replied to Missingbeer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have given up gluten, then you can't get a blood test. Would be nice to know what caused all those "Itises".- 16 replies

ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy - scared!
kareng replied to Missingbeer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Open Original Shared Link i think you may need a new doctor. It is extremely unprofessional to have a receptionist call and give diagnosis and medical advice - probably illegal and malpractice worthy, too. But you need to keep eating gluten until you get this sorted out. Your regular doctor or an OB/ GYN ( if you have one) can also, order the...- 16 replies

ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy - scared!
kareng replied to Missingbeer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to ask a doctor these questions. Yes, there are other causes. It would be good to have the positive blood test so you know it is Celiac and don't miss something else. How severe was the blunting? What other things did they look for or find?- 16 replies

ARCHIVED Help! I don't understand the results!
kareng replied to Janet7182's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Usually, when a lab result is negative, you don't have the issue that the test is for. -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy - scared!
kareng replied to Missingbeer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow! I would ask for a copy of the results because I don't think a receptionist interpreting them is appropriate or accurate. Maybe call back and insist that a doctor call you back? What were your blood test results? did they do any? There are other things that can cause the flattened villa if you don't have a positive blood panel. These are...- 16 replies

ARCHIVED Gluten in my prescription not letting me get better?
kareng replied to Mallory Lee's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
There was a study that looked at many medications and found only a handful actually contained gluten. I will see if I can find it. How long have you been gluten-free? It can takes months or years to get better. another to to watch is that, as your GI tract heals, many medications that are absorbed in the small intestine, are now absorbed...- 1 reply

ARCHIVED How do I interpret my results??
kareng replied to Smyga's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Looks negative? What did the doctor say? -
In the 10 years since the last post, this place may have figured gluten-free out. So I wouldn't trust any reviews that old. You might check "Find Me Gluten Free" and see if there are newer reviews

ARCHIVED Can Diphenhydramine Hydrocloride Or Benadryl Be A Possible Treatment?
kareng replied to lyndao's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just a heads up - I don't think the original poster, or even any of the others have been active for many years. This is from 2007. I doubt they will see your answer. -
ARCHIVED can you not have dairy, gluten, or fructose?
kareng replied to kkgirl's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The OP has been gluten-free for 6 years and doing well. Now this new developement. Not quite the same thing. She is either getting some sneaky gluten somewhere or something else has popped up. As for myself and many Celiacs I know, we didn't need to give up multiple foods to heal the Celiac damage. Often, people need to give up dairy temporarily... -
ARCHIVED can you not have dairy, gluten, or fructose?
kareng replied to kkgirl's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The only way to treat Celiac disease is by going gluten free. anyway, back to the OP - it is possible to also have a lactose intolerance and or a FODMAPS issue with Celiac. It's also possible some gluten is creeping in somewhere. Have you had your antibodies re- tested? -
I guess it could be from a glutening. It worries me that half your face tingles/numb.... I am guessing it might be something else. You might want to call your doctor

ARCHIVED Is vegan pate gluten free?
kareng replied to Matijas's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If your results aren't very high, they may want to do an endoscopy to make sure it is actually Celiac causing them to be slightly elevated. There are other reasons for a slightly elevated ttg. As for the food, in the US, it does not matter where the food is made, it must adhere to the U. S. labeling standards. I believe that is true for Canada... -
ARCHIVED What would you do?
kareng replied to Karag's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh! The 61 isn't an antibody test, it's just the total IGA. That is run to see if a person makes the stuff that some of the tests, the IGA ones, look for. So, yes, it all looks negative. -
ARCHIVED Is vegan pate gluten free?
kareng replied to Matijas's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are you planning on having an endoscopy? If you are, you should continue to eat gluten until all test are finished. in the US, wheat must be labeled. So yeast and yeast extract are gluten-free unless it says something like " brewer's yeast" or lists wheat somewhere. It might say it in a statement at the end of ingredients " may contain wheat" or... -
ARCHIVED how long does it take to show signs of being glutened?
kareng replied to pschwab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That seems normal for a glutening. The thing is, you have only been gluten-free for a month....and probably not completely gluten-free for that month. There is a big learning curve. You might want to skip eating out, especially at sketchy gluten-free places like TGI Fridays, for a few months. It can take months to years to heal completely . Trying to...
