  1. Recently I used a gluten free pie crust from Whole Foods Market, from their freezer section. It was very good! That might be a better option for your pie. The filling is easier to keep gluten free than the crust, I think, as long as you follow the recommendations posted by others here, regarding cross contamination. The ingredients for the 'innards' of...
  2. Chocolate chip raspberry muffins? Ok, I HAVE to get there!
  3. Clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. sigh. And Pandora's Box pizza from Xtreme Pizza. And not needing to explain myself every time we eat out.
  4. I baked biscuits from the Bisquick gluten-free mix yesterday, and have to say I'm not too excited. They were ok, but not really biscuit like. My dear spouse, who is so tolerant of trying my gluten free baking attempts, ate one, with lots of honey on it, but declined a second one. I'm not sure what the mix needs, but I doubt I'll buy it again. Another...
  5. You are so right! Or ginger cookies, from Trader Joe's or MiDel. There is a whole world of possibilities. Now the weather needs to cool down so I can turn on my oven.
  6. Hmmm, good idea! Use gingerbread spices, could be a fun and tasty crust for cheesecake or anything that uses a graham cracker crust. Thank you!
  7. A crumble or other crumbly topped fruit dessert might be a better option if needed. Pie crusts by definition have a fat source in them. Otherwise they are more like cardboard. I figure that pie is an occasional treat, so the fat content in the crust is a moot point.
  8. Hi, Larry. No, did not pre bake the crust, but I might for a pumpkin pie. I'm trying to resist apple pie for breakfast...
  9. I baked an apple pie today, using a frozen gluten free crust from Whole Foods. I made a crumb topping, subbed white rice flour for the wheat flour the recipe called for. I haven't had a real piece of pie in nearly two years. It is so good I could cry! Really, the crust is flaky, buttery, all I could ask for. Happy sigh. I will do this again, and with...
  10. Thank you for this great information!
  11. Hugs, K8ling. You are doing the right things, taking care of yourself. Chocolate and massage help soothe many problems.
  12. I just bought a 6 pack of Bard's from BevMo. haven't tried it yet. I like Redbridge, but they didn't have it this time.
  13. Daisy, thanks for the vote of confidence for Bare Minerals. I've been using it for a couple of years, like it very much. I'm careful not to raise clouds of it while applying it. Cloud-raising wastes the product, makes for messy clean up, and is easily avoided. So, not a problem. I do sometimes get itchy eyes, possibly from the product, after applying...
  14. You might check out: Open Original Shared Link for information on home cooking for your dogs. I am a long time subscriber to Whole Dog Journal, which is a reliable reference for dog care. Another good resource is: Dr. Pitcairn's New Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats by Richard H. Pitcairn and Susan Hubble Pitcairn hope...
  15. Have you looked at Honest Kitchen? They have some very nice products. My picky girl is unhappy when I try to switch her to their products, but it's a quality food. My Ellie refuses all raw meats, silly dog. She thinks she's a human.
  16. Alba skin and hair care products and mineral sunscreens are gluten free. I also use Bare Minerals makeup, love them! I can't use chemical sunscreens, so I use the Bare Minerals as my sunscreen. They also have a powder sunscreen that works pretty well, although it washes off too easily.
  17. I have a question for the Product Maven! I use Aveda Be Curly leave in styling product, as it's the only thing I've found that works for my curly hair. But it has (gack!) wheat protein in it! Now, I'm not super sensitive, am gluten intolerant rather than true celiac. But, I'd love to find another product to use, and not have that wheat protein in...
  18. Hi, Alison. You might want to check out Petadolex, by Enzymatic Therapy. (enzy.com) It is a standardized extract of the herb butterbur, andhas been double blind studied as a migraine preventive. Information on the studies and research is on their website. As far as I know it's gluten free. I've used it successfully to fend off or lessen migraines. You...
  19. You can buy powdered buttermilk to keep on hand for recipes like this. works pretty well.
  20. Thank you, your replies are very helpful.
  21. I called the Sara Lee company today, to ask about the Hillshire Farms packaged deli meats. I was told that they offer "truth in labeling", and will always list any gluten ingredients or possible contamination on their labels. I've eaten the Hillshire Farms turkey polska kielbasa without any problems, in fact they are a stable 'go-to' dinner item...
  22. Thank you all for your replies! I'll try the flour-less recipe, maybe today, let you know how it turns out. Maybe grate some apple, add it to the batter, to add some moisture. Adventures in baking!
  23. I'd like to make gluten free cornbread. I've tried subbing a gluten free flour blend for wheat flour in my favorite recipe, but it didn't work well. I tried the Bob's Red Mill mix, but didn't like it. Does anyone have a good recipe they would be willing to share? Or suggestions for other mixes to try? My family likes the Trader Joe's wheat flour cornbread...
  24. You might try VitaCost.com. They don't have everything, but their prices are pretty good.
