ARCHIVED Starbucks Coffee
jknnej replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know if they can make their lattes with soy milk? And if so, is their soy milk gluten-free? Just wondering....I love their lattes but dairy bothers me lately. I hope there's an alternative cus' I love Starbucks! -
ARCHIVED I Guess I Have To Starve?
jknnej replied to frustratedneicey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think another problem beginners have is that they don't want to spend a lot of time preparing food. I am a great cok but don't really love to cook so when I got diagnosed I had to get over the frustration of having to prepare my food all of the time. I used to be able to just go out when I didn't feel like cooking; we can't do that as much anymore and it... -
ARCHIVED New To This...lots Of Questions
jknnej replied to MaineGirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Sarah, Unfortunately, the only way to diagnose Celiac Disease is with a blood test and a biopsy. The blood test comes first; if it is positive they recommend the biopsy (it is painless...you are out the entire time). But, you MUST be ingesting gluten in order for the blood test or the scope to come out positive; there's no getting around that. Yeah... -
That stinks that you got sick at lunch-definitely sounds like you were glutened. I itch like crazy, too. No rash, but once I scratch myself raw I have scabs on my arms and feet. It's awful and it comes and goes. Sometimes I don't have it, then for awhile I will...it's odd.

Thanks for that recipe! I LOVE cornbread and haven't had any in a year since I went gluten-free. I really appreciate it and will try it for Thanksgiving! Happy Turkey Day to all!

ARCHIVED New To This...lots Of Questions
jknnej replied to MaineGirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Sarah, I went through exactly what you just described my first 7 months gluten-free. I finally had to start taking Nexium and it controls my nausea. I never had reflux before I went gluten free but now I do and it makes me constantly nauseated unless I take Nexium. I'm not sure if your issues are similar to mine, though. I think the change in stomach... -
Ok, so what's this about mold? I started night sweats in July after never having them before. I'm 29 and I've had my thyroid, hormones, sugars, vitamins, etc checked and all are FINE. BUT I did start a new job and sources say there is a HUGE amount of mold there-apparently they put new carpet on top of the old and a couple of other employees got sick...

It's totally normal and in fact more than one of us has emetophobia, the fear of throwing up. I think I have it because I feel sick so often. fortunately my GI doctor gives me a prescription of Phenegran, a drug that stops vomiting right away. I don't use it much but it cuts my anxiety WAY down because I know I have it if I need it. There is also Zofran...

I am probably in the minority opinion here because I would never put up with crap like that from a man. I'm sorry I'm not trying to offend and I realize I might but it all boils down to who you marry. My hubby was skeptical too but never in a negative way towards me. I would never have married someone who would make me feel bad for being sick. Not in a million...

You need to really educate your husband so that he understands what you go through when you eat gluten. If he still acts that way it is extremely insensitive. Don't put up with it. Do you cook the turkey? If so, I would say "Ummm, would you like to eat?" LOL In all seriousness, though, anyone who would sacrifice your health or well being, even for the moment...

ARCHIVED Is A Tiny Amount As Evil As A Pizza?
jknnej replied to Random Guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, the "not even a crumb" is true. If you do end up positive and start a gluten free (truly gluten free) diet, a few months down the line having "one crumb" will tear you up unbelievably. Most of us get terribly sick when gluten is ingested. Before my diagnosis last year I had no allergies. If I so much as touch wheat now my whole body turns red! If... -

ARCHIVED Three Musketeers
jknnej replied to jknnej's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cool, thanks. What on earth is in a regular milky way that has gluten? I thought it was chocolate, caramel, and the same nougat that is in 3 musketeers. Oh well I guess I was wrong...bummer. celiac3270, where can I find your gluten-free candy list? -
ARCHIVED Three Musketeers

ARCHIVED Nestle/tootsie Rolls
jknnej posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi all, Does anyone know off the top of your head if Butterfingers -miniature or regular are gluten-free? And, are tootsie rolls gluten-free? I have them sitting on my desk and want to eat them...Nestle makes butterfingers and I don't know their policies. It doesn't have gluten containing ingredients on the label but you never know. If anyone knows please... -
ARCHIVED After You're Gluten Free
jknnej replied to foodphobic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is normal to feel odd for awhile. I did for about 6 months then it finally went away. I had similar symptoms; dizziness, fogginess, etc. all when I was gluten-free. Also, make sure you aren't consuming hidden traces of gluten somewhere! Don't worry; it will pass. You just have to give it some time; this is a major change for your body. -
ARCHIVED Gf Pizza For Those Of You In Az
jknnej replied to celiac3270's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi ladies I am also in Phoenix. The Outback on Power Rd. and US 60 in Mesa is good. Also, Chandler at the 101 and Chandler blvd. AND Ray Rd. and I-10. I eat at all of these and they're great. Also, Carrabba's Italian Grill at Ray and I-10 and Power and US 60 has a GREAT gluten-free menu. Outback and Carrabba's are owned by the same company. Picazzo's is... -
I eat at Outback every Friday at different locations in Phoenix and never have a problem. Of course I stress to the waiter that NO bread or flour can touch my food or I will get deathly sick. This usually makes them so paranoid they are extra careful! Lol Anyway, I've never had a problem. I always get the same thing: prime rib, medium rare, baked potatoes...

I LOVE pf changs BUT can't eat there. Every single time I get sick. Even when I order gluten-free and talk with the waiter, etc. I get sick. And it's not the other ingredients because before I went gluten-free I ate there all the time with no problems. So, sigh, I no longer eat there. I LOVE their food but it just isn't worth the nausea I get and gluten...

ARCHIVED I Started The Gf Diet
jknnej replied to Danijela's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to eat more! Make sure you eat chicken, beef, fish, etc. Hope you're not a vegatarian! Seriously, though, my stomach felt "empty" for a few months and then it went away. Some say it is because you have undergone a change in stomach volume. Hang in there; it will get better. but eat, eat, eat! -
I would NOT eat at the fair, either. Where do you live? We have our state fair here now in Phoenix.
-
The only reason I caution you about starting the diet w/out testing is because you will NEVER want to go back on gluten again if you feel better and the doctors will make you go back on gluten if you ever want a test. My advice? Get the blood test and skip the endoscopy if you're that passionate about it. I would NOT start a gluten-free diet without the...

ARCHIVED Just Got Back From My Endoscopy
jknnej replied to bellybattle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Both my colonoscopy and endocscopy they had to give me double the meds to put me out. I guess i won't go easily! LOL because of the double dosage I was OUT for the entire day and night. My hubby had to bring me out in a wheelchair and take me home and put me to bed. Endo was So easy, prep for colonoscopy sucked. I was starving and dehydrated, plus nauseated... -
I agree with most here....cheating is NOT an option. You may be 75 years old but why would you want to make your life span any shorter? Being diagnosed at a later age already puts you at a higher risk for many celiac disease related diseases; I don't think you would want to make it worse. I also know how hard it is and I, too would recommed you seek out...
