  1. It's possible you messed up celiac tests by being mostly gluten-free. I've read the high IgA can happen in celiac disease but it's far from diagnostic. You would have to go back to full gluten for a couple months to get an accurate test. It's also only a celiac screen and as you mentioned, there are other tests like deamidated gliadin that are more sensitive...
  2. That's not a silly question at all. Gluten is the only food known to directly cause autoimmunity. We have had a few folks on the board who didn't get well until they went off dairy, so dairy may be an "avoid completely" kind of food for folks who get a gluten style reaction to it. If you are reacting to a food with intense itching and the GI trouble...
  3. I don't think blood sugar has much to do with candida. How could it? The candida is in the intestines, not the blood. All the stuff I've read on Candida says that it is able use any kind of sugar or starch you eat pretty effectively. Agreed that refined sugar seems worse, but I don't think most folks can kill candida eating starches like brown rice. ...
  4. It depends on what you're trying to do. GAPS is a gut-healing diet. Paleo is for general health in people who have a GI system in decent shape. If you are still suffering from IBS you would want to do the GAPS introduction with the bone broth and fermented foods. You should read the GAPS book. It will help you understand how GAPS heals. As far as...
  5. Grain-free is tough because people tend to shy away from eating enough fat to feel full. Avocados, nuts, and natural aged cheese (if you tolerate it) are your friends!
  6. I agree. A friend made me cookies with the Bob's shortbread mix and they were very good.
  7. Hi and welcome. When you had your endoscopy and your doctor saw inflammation, do you know if she did a biopsy? It would be good if you get those results along with the blood work. Gluten sensitivity is diagnosed by trying the diet for a couple months. If you feel better you can challenge by eating some gluten again. You know for sure if the symptoms...
  8. I don't know of any blood tests for lectin reactions. You can eliminate lectins for a couple weeks by eating a restricted diet and see if you get better. This link has an elimination diet, plus links to more articles on lectins at the bottom. Open Original Shared Link
  9. If it's Progresso you're talking about, I only eat the soups they are specifically marking gluten-free. I figure there must be something different about the soups without an obvious wheat ingredient that aren't marked gluten-free. I figure the same for any single brand that has some items marked gluten-free and some not. My guess is that it has to do with...
  10. I do baked penne as well. I can't find gluten-free lasagne noodles very often.
  11. I don't like your insulting tone, Gemini. Someone says "I have a reaction after every dose of a drug" and anyone with a shred of common sense would say "gee, maybe it's the drug." I'm glad to hear Nystatin helped you, but it doesn't mean it's the right medicine for everyone. People die of bacterial infections, but they also die from penicillin allergy...
  12. Me too, me too! I can handle the GI stuff no problem but the depression/anxiety is truly awful.
  13. You might be the best mom ever. I'm deeply impressed that you are struggling through the diet to support your daughter.
  14. Did you even bother to read the abstract??? As the abstract states, they were looking at anti-EMA IgA as the measure of celiac and tested genes and antibodies at the same time in a single blood draw. Anti-EMA has about a 25% false negative rate but it's very specific. There will be a bit of underestimation of celiac rates across the study, but the...
  15. I think you misunderstood me. Nystatin is a fairly toxic drug and while it's supposed to be poorly absorbed, allergies and side effects are still possible. Herxheimer symptoms are not very specific and many of the symptoms overlap Nystatin toxicity reactions. Nystatin can damage your liver if your intestines are damaged enough from celiac that you are absorbing...
  16. It took months for me to stop getting canker sores. Eight days is nothing. The gluten is barely even getting out of your body.
  17. Hoppin' john and collard greens. My version of hoppin' john is black-eyed peas and rice cooked with onions and a ham hock or fatback. I like to put in a can of tomatoes and some diced bell peppers. The greens are supposed to attract money, which is also green. My ex-husband's family used to scrub and boil a handful of coins (to make them food-safe)...
  18. TTG is an autoimmune antibody that is usually caused by celiac, but it's not 100% specific by itself. With both DQ2.5 and positive TTG he definitely needs to be off gluten. Even if the biopsy is negative damage can be patchy or partial and the biopsy can miss it. Celiac disease can also develop gradually in some people, where the biopsy isn't positive...
  19. No, for some celiacs like Roda the problem is the oat itself. There are studies where celiacs eating pure oats with no gluten CC had antibodies and villous atrophy.
  20. Your question has already been answered with a 10,000 person genetic study. There are a few biopsy-confirmed celiacs without the genes. The risk of having celiac disease without DQ2 or DQ8 in the study was 0.16%, meaning it's unusual but absolutely not impossible. Open Original Shared Link
  21. I'm taking Threelac and Bio-Kult. Threelac has been good for me and I'll probably get a box of Fivelac next.
  22. I think I'm still having reactions to foods. The one problem with GAPS is that the skin patch test is a joke. I tried it with some plain yogurt and had no skin problems. When I ate the yogurt I had a really bad mental reaction.
  23. I'd suggest eliminating oats for now. There is not only a CC issue, but some folks with celiac are sensitive to them because they're so closely related to wheat and barley. You can always try certified gluten-free oats like Bob's Red Mill after you're feeling better.
  24. What ravenwood said, plus the results are from two different dignostic labs so they may not be comparable.
