  1. If the reaction is strong you are probably one of the celiacs who reacts to oats as if they were wheat. Some folks can't tolerate oat gluten.
  2. I think the combo of low B12 and ferritin strongly suggests that your malabsorption has gotten a lot worse. It looks like the B12 has been falling pretty steadily, suggesting that your liver has run out of B12 stores now. Yes, her worry is warranted becasue you can't go a long time severely B12 deficient, plus if you can't absorb B12 and iron you probably...
  3. In my family, the giblets didn't ever make it as far as gravy. The neck and giblets were our Thanksgiving appetizer while the rest of the turkey was still cooking. They do make very good gravy if you have the self-control to not snarf them down immediately.
  4. My brother did that with brown rice or whole wheat when he was a child. Mom learned to sneak in half brown rice or whole wheat and lie about it. If he didn't know, he wouldn't complain about the taste.
  5. Thanks for the suggestion of cleavers. There is an herb store in town so I'll try to go by over the long weekend and see if they have it. GAPS diet is a version of the Specific Carboyhdrate Diet that's got extra probiotics and a lot of gelatin-rich bone broth. It is designed to heal the intestine and hopefully repopulate it with healthier bacteria. Open...
  6. GAPS diet is a version of the Specific Carboyhdrate Diet that's got extra probiotics and a lot of gelatin-rich bone broth. It is designed to heal the intestine and hopefully repopulate it with healthier bacteria. Open Original Shared Link For the TH1 vs TH2 branches of the immune system, here are a few links. It's not simple and the articles explain it...
  7. Come to think of it, I haven't had any hot flashes since my Dr. upped my thyroid medicine a little.
  8. Amazing about the herbs. I'm so glad to hear your regimen seems to be working. You know a lot more herbalism than I do. It's only something I've dabbled in because it's so hard to learn. There is so much conflicting information, and a lot of it is old folklore that's tough to track down. I find it hard to sort out the real information and I always end...
  9. If your mom went through menopause early, it sure sounds like you're having hot flashes. Those are absolutely classic symptoms with the flushing, heart pounding/racing, and feeling weird. I get oddly restless with mine and sometimes I break out in sweat. Once it's over I am often cold for a bit. I'm young for menopause too but it can happen early in us...
  10. I am starting to think sensitivities have a lot to do with leaky gut, missing bacteria that are supposed to metabolize certain chemicals, and inflammation. I remember you were having huge problems with yeast. If you got that sorted out you might have started healing your gut. Maybe not as much salicylate is getting through now. Check out this cool article...
  11. Winter squash is generally allowed on SIBO and yeast diets. Squash does have enough carbs to cause blood sugar swings if you eat large amounts of it, much like corn and wheat. I notice you also have issues with bananas and sweet potatoes, which are fairly high carb foods. I feel much better limiting carbs, having protein with every meal, and having...
  12. How did you modify your diet? Did you start eating more dairy, soy, or corn? More processed foods? A lot of us are sensitive to dairy. Soy is probably the next most common intolerance and some folks are sensitive to corn. Processed foods are always a CC risk so those can be a problem too.
  13. Thanks for the link. I haven't seen hazelnut flour before. Yum. Also $39 for free shipping shouldn't be too hard. Don't think I'd ever use up a 6-pack of coconut flour though. That stuff goes a long way!
  14. Even if you don't test positive, give the diet a try. Non-celiac gluten intolerance doesn't show up on tests but it can still make you miserable. Good luck!
  15. Huh? MSG is usually manufactured with bacterial fermentation. Hydrolyzed soy protein always contains MSG but nothing I've ever read suggests that MSG always contains soy. Protein-rich foods take a fair amount of stomach acid and enzymes to digest properly. Getting your acid checked sounds sensible.
  16. Sounds like a VERY good GI doc who really understands celiac. If your TTG and anti-gliadin start falling on the diet, they're definitely caused by gluten. It's great that he doesn't want to put you through the endoscopy. He's right that it can come back false negative because the damage can be patchy. Hitting celiac damage on a biopsy is partly luck....
  17. I'd sure demand an H Pylori test with those results. I'd also go forward with the capsule endoscopy. It sounds like they biopsied your stomach, not your small intestine. That won't detect celiac. The capsule endoscopy will get further into your small intestine and give a better chance of finding celiac damage.
  18. Are you IgA deficient? If you have normal levels of IgA and the rest of the celiac panel was negative you might be gluten intolerant rather than celiac. It's still really good to be gluten-free since your dad is celiac and you're starting to get antibodies. Developing celiac can be a slow process in some people and being off gluten will keep you from...
  19. I so glad to hear the first treatment went well. Good luck!!!
  20. It's a vicious cycle. The intolerance and yeast overgrowth produces inflammation, which makes the "leaky gut" and intolerance worse. You have to get off wheat and other foods that are causing problems, and you have to re-establish healthy bacteria in your gut. I would strongly suggest you go onto GAPS diet. Open Original Shared Link It is designed to...
  21. I'm glad MCAD deficiency doesn't fit! Also glad you have no signs of hepatitis. If it's specific to chemicals, he may be talking about cytochrome P450 polymorphisms. The P450 system is your hepatic "detox" system for chemicals and drugs. There are a LOT of differences in P450 enzymes between individuals, and among other things P450 differences can...
  22. Too little acid makes sense, especially if stopping the acid pill helped. Bright red blood in a stool is not anything to be frightened of. You're probably irritated from the diarrhea. The dangerous blood from internal bleeding is black and clumpy - supposedly it looks like coffee grounds.
  23. My first question would be "Why was my 111 TTG flagged "normal" and do I need to be retested?" You should expect to have an endoscopy scheduled. I would ask whether he does celiac endoscopies regularly. I'd also want to be sure he will take plenty of biopsies. Some doctors only do 3 or 4, but better ones do 7 or more.
  24. Leaky gut or allergy are possibilities. The toxic part of gluten for celiacs is gliadin but maybe you're reacting to something else.
  25. With the yeast/fungal overgrowth, low pH, and malabsorption I imagine you'll show rather a lot of sensitivities. It doesn't sound like celiac is your problem, although you should probably be off both dairy and grains for a time. With all the fungus and yeast, your GI tract will not work properly. Food chemicals get into your bloodstream, causing intolerance...
