  1. Does anyone know whether the powdered Gatorade mix is Gluten Free? I used to get the powder in the big canisters instead of the premixed in bottles because it works out cheaper that way.
  2. Yep, that's pretty much the same thing my ultrasound tech said to me. It must be pretty standard for them to have to move things around to get a better shot. I wouldn't read anything into it.
  3. So sorry I had one of those icky ultrasounds once. They assured me it wouldn't hurt at all. I was in pain for days afterward. Not trying to scare you, just letting you know it's normal. I hope you can take a few days to rest and take care of yourself.
  4. Everything I have read says DON'T DO IT! Unless you know the origin of those grains and unless the store selling them does not sell any wheat, spelt, barely, rye or oat products in bulk you have no way of knowing how contaminated they are. All it takes is someone using the wheat scoop once in that bin of peanuts and the bin is contaminated. I doubt they...
  5. I also wanted to say, that the ONLY time I have experienced anything similar this is when I had a miscarriage. Is there any chance you had were in early pregnancy and had a miscarriage?
  6. That is very scary! Did you go back in to show the nurses all the blood? Are you taking any medications that could be thinning your blood? You really need to ask your doctor about this. I have not seen anyone here post about anything similar, but that doesn't mean it isn't a condition related to celiac. I hope you have told your gyn about the periods...
  7. I guess today was my day to experiment. I've been playing with baking lately trying to make either a decent scone or a biscuit. So far all my attempts have either been extremely gummy and uncooked in the center or very light and fluffy, but crumbly to the touch and chalky tasting. Today I even did a box mix from Gluten Free Pantry hoping it would turn...
  8. SO I picked up some Masa Harina (corn flour). The only ingredients are White Corn, Water and Calcium Hydroxide (lime). I figured this should be safe and proceeded to make some fresh corn tortillas from it. They worked well and tasted yummy, but I was sick to my stomach and throwing it up soon after eating one (I ate one with nothing but a little salt first...
  9. Many find they are more sensitive to very small amounts of gluten after they go gluten free. And yes the reaction can occur anywhere from immediately to up to 72 hours later (it's different for everyone). Did your doctor run any tests at all?
  10. Here's a Balsamic vingrette recipe: Open Original Shared Link I have used it as a marinade for chicken and it was very good. I have also used it in place of soy sauce in stir-fry recipes with good success.
  11. Happy Birthday Connie! Take some benedryl for that swollen face (after all your birthday alcohol has worn off of course )
  12. Best way to find out is to go in during a non-busy time and ask exactly what goes into the latte. For a Caramel Latte it would usually be just espresso, frothed milk, and carmel syrup flavoring. Ask to see the bottle of caramel flavoring--you can read the ingredients for yourself. Also ask about whipped cream and if they use a different caramel for the...
  13. Hi, I don't know much about the tests, but CC (Cross-Contamination) could definitely be a problem, especially if the other members of your household are not gluten-free. Also what do you typically eat? If you eat a lot of processed gluten-free products you run a higher risk of CC. Gluten free just mean that they tested it and it contained under the legal...
  14. I also wanted to say it really bugs me when I come across someone that claims they are celiac but they "don't have to be too strict about it." I'm not talking about people that are not sensitive to cc, I'm talking about people that will sometime eat gluten on purpose because they think a little won't hurt. My husband has a co-worker like this, she claims...
  15. Can you find out the name of this "doctor"? If you find out it is a real doctor prescribing some meds instead of a gluten-free diet I think you can report them to the AMA or whoever it is that does medical licensing. You should also try to find out about it so you can warn you local celiac group (if you have one) about the scam. Unfortunately people will...
  16. Wow, that was a fast! I got an e-mail reply already. Here's what they wrote: Hello XXXX, We do not add any gluten containing ingredients to the Lobster Classic Chunk and our Crab Classic Chunk formulas. However, we do NOT certify these products to be gluten free. Certification requires special handling, testing and specially designed lines which...
  17. After tons of searching I found a post on this site from 2007: So I guess my next step is to contact this company, because the links posted don't say anything about gluten and I need to know about soy as well.
  18. Interesting. I've been googling for a recipe and can't find one--all the recipes come up as recipes that USE imitation crab meat rather than ones that describe how to make it. I guess it's one of those heavily processed items I won't be making from scratch.
  19. That's what I was afraid of. No Whole Foods around here, but I'll be checking Trader Joe's. I was hoping that if someone could given me a brand name I could request one of my local stores to start carrying it.
  20. Give it a try for a two-three weeks. If you see NO difference you can always add it back in. Some people also use lactaid products to make it easier to digest dairy, but I think you should find out if it is really bothering you first by eliminating it. If you have a lot of damage the lactaid may do nothing to help you. As far as nutrition you can get...
  21. I'm looking for an imitation crab meat that is gluten free as well as soy free. It has to be imitation because I'm allergic to shellfish, but I can eat other types of fish. Or if there is not a safe brand out there can someone tell me how to make fake crab meat? That would probably be even better. Thanks!
  22. Do you have an Asian food store anywhere near there? That is the only place I have found them. Even if you have to drive a ways it's worth it to go to one. My nearest one is about 20 minutes away so I'm lucky. I find that the produce prices are much cheaper there as well. I also buy rice noodles, bean thread noodles, several types of rice flour and coconut...
  23. Hi, you are not alone. You might want to read this thread:
  24. I feel so bad to have to tell you this, but you need to give up the dairy. Since your biopsy showed you have blunted villi, that means you are probably lactose intolerant. One of the functions of the villi is to produce lactase which breaks down the lactose in dairy products. If your body cannot break down the lactose then the result is painful bloating...
  25. I've so been there--even worse because my symptoms were mainly neurological. So I had to have brain scans, heart scans, tests for epilepsy, etc, etc. The only immune-disease they tested me for was lupus. The doctor wanted to diagnose me with fibromyalsia, but had to rule everything else out first...Celiac or gluten intolerance NEVER ONCE came up in conversation...
