The only time I have eaten Wendy's chili since going gluten free I got sick from it. I thought it was the beans, since I still can't tolerate them. But I also checked the ingredients and found soy listed--so perhaps it was the soybean oil that made me ill. Either way I am avoiding Wendy's. I also got sick from a salad without any croutons or anything...

ARCHIVED Insight Into Test Results
GlutenFreeManna replied to hawkgirl98's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As someone else mentioned above, they can't see the damage done by celiac with the endoscopy. They are just guessing at where to take tissue samples. They may have taken tissue samples of the healthy part of you intestines. OR since you had been of gluten for a month the damage may have healed. There may have not been very much damage to your intestines... -
ARCHIVED Hi Everyone!
GlutenFreeManna replied to conniebky's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Connie, did you decide to get more testing done? You know even if all your celiac tests come back negative, it's okay to just decide to not eat gluten. Plenty of people here were never officially diagnosed, but they know that gluten makes them sick. Listen to what your body is trying to tell you! -
ARCHIVED Chili's Chicken And Green Chile Soup?
GlutenFreeManna replied to HeartofGlass224's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have not had that soup, but it sounds really good! I did a quick search and found this: Open Original Shared Link Does that sound like what you had? -
ARCHIVED The Autism Cookbook--Help--Has Anybody Used This Book?
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks every one for the suggestions. I forgot about this thread temporarily. I ended up rolling the dough out really thin on parchment paper and making buckwheat crackers out of it. I brushed them with garlic-infused olive oil and sprinkled with sesame seeds, then cut with a pizza cutter. They came out okay, but didn't get completely crispy on the inside... -
ARCHIVED Ever Been Charged Extra For gluten-free Hotel Food?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Christine E's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Oh, is it one of those "ALL Inclusive" places? It does make sense to me that they would charge extra for those types of items, but at least you found out now instead of when you are stuck there with the bill. It sounds like they may not know much about preparing gluten free food anyway. I would not want to take a chance of cross contamination if they are... -
ARCHIVED Ever Been Charged Extra For gluten-free Hotel Food?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Christine E's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Are you talking about ordering room service? I have not ordered room service anywhere since going gluten free, but I think that bringing your own food or buying it at a grocery store would be less expensive regardless of a gluten-free diet requirement. They may not realize what they already have that can be prepared gluten free, or they may not have the... -
ARCHIVED Which French Fries Can We Have?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Kelly&Mom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've just about given up on fast food fries being safe. I've gotten sick from Chick-fil-a and McDonalds. The best I have found is Cheeseburger in Paradise, but I got sick once out of the two times I ate there. No way to tell if it was the fries or not. SO it's a 50-50 gamble to me. I like to make oven fries at home. It's really simple to do, just time... -
ARCHIVED Yoplait Frozen Smoothies
GlutenFreeManna replied to jjc's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried these a few months ago and did not have any glutening symptoms, so I think they are gluten free. However I really didn't care for them. The amount one bag makes is very small for the price. I can buy yogurt and frozen fruit for less. Also I recall the texture was not very good. I got strawberry banana and mixed berry I think and both flavors... -
ARCHIVED Desperate For Help
GlutenFreeManna replied to looking4help's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm glad you have figured this out. There will be many more great "A HA" moments like this as you heal. I just realized this weekend that I could be glutened from sharing a water bottle with my husband. -
ARCHIVED Desperate For Help
GlutenFreeManna replied to looking4help's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, this helps a lot. I know you're not going to like this but you need to cut out the dairy (milk and cheese) for a while. Part of the reason you are still having so much pain is because you have blunted villi. The villi in your intestines are what produce lactase, which breaks down lactose in dairy products. Since your villi are damaged they cannot... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
GlutenFreeManna replied to hazeleyez682's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It could be dermatitis herpetiformis. Be sure that any creams or lotions you use on it are gluten free. Also you might want to post this question in the DH forum here: https://www.celiac.com/forums/forum/26-dermatitis-herpetiformis/ -
ARCHIVED The Truth Begin Annatto?
GlutenFreeManna replied to alissar's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is possible to have an allergic reaction to annatto, so perhaps that is one of the foods you are sensitive to. -

ARCHIVED Desperate For Help
GlutenFreeManna replied to looking4help's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, tell us what your typical diet is like. What are you eating? Also what personal hygiene products do you use? You need to look at make-up, lotions, shampoo, hairspray, toothpaste, everything. Maybe we can help you pinpoint where gluten is getting into you or if you are reacting to other foods. Have you also tried cutting out dairy or soy? Those... -
ARCHIVED Desperate For Help
GlutenFreeManna replied to looking4help's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi! Many of those symptoms are similar to what I had pre-gluten free, so you shouldn't rule out that it's gluten. Also, however you may have other things going on that are correlated to celiac's disease. Gallbladder issues and endometriosis (sp?) are two things off the top of my head that many women with celiac's disease experience. I had gallbladder... -
Can you elaborate more on what you are eating? There are many foods that are "gluten free" that can cause bloating if you are intolerant to them. Dairy is the most common one I think. Are you consuming a lot of dairy products?

ARCHIVED Shared A Water Bottle, Got Glutened
GlutenFreeManna posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We went to a small amusement park yesterday. I took my own water and some snacks in my purse. We had a great time until I started to feel overheated. It was in the 90's and I was dripping with sweat. I ran out of water and felt like I was going to pass out from the heat. My loving husband found me a place to sit and offered me his water bottle to drink... -
ARCHIVED College Meal Ideas?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Becksabec's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Will you have a freezer? Those frozen steamer packages of vegetables are convenient and not very expensive, just pop them in a microwave for 5 minutes and you have steamed vegetables. You can cook rice in a microwave too if you have to, or get a rice cooker if you have the space for one. Baked potatoes and chicken breasts are other easy foods to microwave... -
ARCHIVED How Sick Can Hand Soaps Make You?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Almendra's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know about Bath and Body Works soap, but their lotions contain wheat germ oil. I found out the hard way when the lotion made me break out in hives. Even if you don't get that reaction however, using soaps with gluten can make you sick. Unless you didn't once touch your food or you face or your mouth, some is going to get into your body. And even... -
ARCHIVED Can't Quench My Appitite
GlutenFreeManna replied to SuzyVandy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Are you eating a lot of gluten free replacement items? I have noticed that when I eat more protein based snacks as opposed to carb-based snacks I'm not AS hungry later. The protein sticks with me longer. Try eating a hard boiled egg or a spoonful of peanut butter the next time you are really hungry but it is not meal time. I do need to eat frequently... -
ARCHIVED 3 Years Gluten Free. How To Get Tested?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Lshetler's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Making yourself sick again for a few months in order to get a test just to "prove" to your friends that you shouldn't eat gluten is a little silly, don't you think? What will you do if your results all come back negative? Would you go back to eating gluten even if it makes you sick? I'm sorry, but I trust my body more than I trust a test that has a high... -
ARCHIVED I Do Not Believe My Doctor.
GlutenFreeManna replied to Janelee63's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well one thing you should know is that the blood test has a high rate of false negative results. There is another test you can do--a stool test via Enterolab. See if your doctor will accept that test. In my experience it's a rare thing to find a doctor that will suspect celiac's rather than give you more meds to calm the ulcers. Do you have other symptoms... -
ARCHIVED New To Gluten-free...whats Your Typical Diet?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Metoo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My most common meal is grilled chicken or grilled steak with steamed veggies. I get the frozen veggies in the steamer bags (the plain ones without sauce), so it's as easy as throwing the meat on the grill and the veggies in the microwave. I also eat a lot of meals from my crockpot. I really like this blog: Open Original Shared Link Everything she makes... -
ARCHIVED A Tip For Eating At Regular Restaurants
GlutenFreeManna replied to laurland's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I try to avoid eating at "regular" restaurants for this reason. One time I got talked into going to a local place without a gluten free menu. I talked to the waiter for several minutes about what I could and could not have. He recommended a broiled fish with stir-fried vegetables, as it would have no flour, croutons, breading, soy sauce, or shellfish....
