I just took a look in my oven and it is looking beautiful! The loaves are lightly golden right now like a piece of crusty French bread.
-
Mine is starting to smell heavenly! 35 mintues left!
-
I'm just starting to see winter squashes in the market here. I love this time of year! Coconut milk (in the can) is a great addition to soup to make it creamy.
-
This is fun that we both ended up making it at the same time. We should have bake off days where everyone bakes something on the same day and shares what they are baking.
-
I'm thinking butternut squash soup tommorrow if I don't devour all the bread before then.

I JUST put it in the oven! So mine won't be ready for about an hour. I made two small loafs instead of one. I can't even think of what to make for dinner, I'm so excited about this bread. I think I'm going to make my husband eat leftovers and I'm going to eat this bread for dinner. Seriously, I keep trying to come up with meals that go well with...

ARCHIVED What Is Your Soy Reaction Like?
GlutenFreeManna replied to GFreeMO's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Soy protein causes joint pain and fatigue for me. Soybean oil causes headaches and fatigue. Soy flour or soy milk causes stomach pain and bloating but not Diarhea. If you have been eating a lot of it the best thing to do would be take it completely out of your diet for a while and see if you improve. -
I just came to post that mine is rising as well! I had to make a few changes. I used corn starch in place of the arrow root and coconut milk in place of the rice milk. For margerine I used Earth Balance dairy free and soy free spread. I mixed it all up by hand and then formed it. This dough smells like a soft pretzel dough to me. I think I might use...

ARCHIVED Guests Who Ask For My Food
GlutenFreeManna replied to Finally-45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In this situation I think I would have just responded in a very nice tone of voice, "No sweetheart we are not eating that." And left it at that. If the items were not gluten-free or anything expensive but were just junk food items like cake and ice cream would you think it's okay to give them to the kids just because they ask? Kids need to learn boundaries... -
ARCHIVED What Are You Canning/preserving?
GlutenFreeManna replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I still have apples and grape-apple jelly I canned last year. I'd like to do tomatoes but I didn't have a garden this summer due to moving. Local tomatoes have not looked very good or been a good enough price yet to buy in bulk for canning. But I am in a warmer climate so the season is not over here yet. We won't see frost until early November. I will... -
ARCHIVED Flu Shot Poll
GlutenFreeManna replied to Gemini's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No, of course they didn't test what strain it was. The ER is where I was told 1) it's probably the flu. 2) it could NOT have been caused by the flu shot and I must have been exposed just prior to getting the shot or the flu was a different strain than what was in the shot that year. In the years prior to the two years in a row I was in the ER I had... -
ARCHIVED Lays Stax
GlutenFreeManna replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You know when I was first diagnosed with a serious dairy allergy (my response is anaphylactic not digestive) I still wasn't worried about cc in the same way as gluten. But I found out the hard way I was wrong to be so cavalier with the food I was eating. I have not had another serious reaction but on more than one occasion I have eaten something likely... -
ARCHIVED Lays Stax
GlutenFreeManna replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah most of the varieties besides the plain have dairy in them. They all have soy too. I don't get D with them but I get my soy syptoms-fatigue and headaches and I also feel congested when eating--perhaps a reaction to the dairy cc for me. If you did not react to your homemade chips then you know it is not the potatoes, the salt or the amount of oil bothering... -
ARCHIVED Flu Shot Poll
GlutenFreeManna replied to Gemini's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The last two times I had the flu shot I was sick enough I had to go to the ER. I had very high fevers that did not go down with my limit of tylenol, dehydration because I could not keep liquids down, terrible body aches, swelling of the tissues on the back of my head...I most definately had serious flu-like symptoms after getting the flu shot. I wasn't... -
ARCHIVED Flu Shot Poll
GlutenFreeManna replied to Gemini's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Every time I have gotten the flu shot I have been VERY sick from it. The years when I didn't get it I wasn't as sick. I still got colds every year but they were not as severe. Plenty of people have told me that you can't get sick from the shot and it just means you were already exposed to the flu before the shot had a chance to work. I don't believe them... -
ARCHIVED Guests Who Ask For My Food
GlutenFreeManna replied to Finally-45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a couple of strong opinions on this subject. First of all it's rude for guests to ask you for food to eat unless it's a medical emergency and they are about to pass out or something. However, if you invited them and they are there for an extended period of time it's also somewhat rude for you to not OFFER something. Ideally, you should offer something... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
GlutenFreeManna replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes I omit the cheese and do lots of other toppings instead. I use corn chips or shells or corn tortillas baked in the oven. You can make little cups out of Mission corn tortillas by coning them in muffin tins or you can make corn shell shreds by cutting into strips, spraying with oil and baking until crispy. I mostly just start with a bed of lettuce,... -
ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
GlutenFreeManna replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I would edit the following line: "I wish for the two of you a blessed and prosperous life together with all the happiness you deserve and that your love grows each moment so much that you look back on this day many years from now and remember this as the day you loved each other the least." And make it MUCH shorter. Even if all that stuff were true... -

ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Slices of grilled leftover steak, half a cup fo rice and a granny smith apple. -
I also did not get a chance to make it. I don't have enough brown rice flour. My gluten-free store that I was getting it from went out of business and I have only been able to find Bob's Red Mill flours. So I had to order some online. I have everything else (except the stand mixer). As soon as I can I am going to try to make it. Will be watching this...

Salad bars are not very safe places for us. People drop croutons in the dressings or the other containers that should otherwise be gluten-free. Sorry your having a rough time!

ARCHIVED Completely gluten-free Resturaunts?
GlutenFreeManna replied to CeliacMom2008's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Wow! I had no idea there were so many 100% gluten-free restaurants in the US. I'm making a list and planing for my next road trip. I live in a city that borders with several other largeish cities. we have plenty of restaurants with gluten-free menus and a small gluten-free selection in most stores but to my knowledge there are no 100% gluten-free restaurants... -
ARCHIVED Vegetarian Meal Ideas
GlutenFreeManna replied to alex11602's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm not vegetarian but my dinner included a great vegetarian comfort food. Cuban Black beans and rice: Open Original Shared Link Eat with plantain chips. Yummy and filling! PS: for a while when I could not tolerate black beans I made this same recipe with pinto beans and it was just as good.
