ARCHIVED Udi's gluten-free Buns
GlutenFreeManna posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Had a cookout tonight with friends and I took my own burger and a Udi's bun. This was my first time trying them and they were awesome! It was the best burger I've eaten since going gluten free. I was full after just one burger but it was so good I'm considering eating one for a midnight snack....or I'll probably wait until breakfast. Just had to... -
ARCHIVED Should I See A Rheumatologist?
GlutenFreeManna replied to lynnelise's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Once a week is not an occaisional indulgence. That's pretty regular for something that you are allergic to. Your immediate reaction may be very mild (or not at all if masked by heat and soy) but the coffee may also be taxing your immune system for the rest of the week and causing all this fatigue. If a doctor told you that it's okay to indulge in some... -
ARCHIVED Restaurants For The gluten-free/cf/sf/ef
GlutenFreeManna replied to organicmama's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The only options I have found safe for me is a lettuce wrapped burger and fries (no seasonings) at Red Robin or Five Guys. it's pretty boring but at least it's something if I don't feel like cooking. I also try to make a lot of extra food when I'm feeling good and freezing it so I can jsut pull somehting out and re-heat or take with me if I'm goign somewhere... -
Congrats! You may already know this but i had to comment that Bob's Red Mill products give several others on this board trouble. We have concluded that it is because we are also sensitive to all oats (even certified gluten-free oats) and since BRM gluten-free products are made in the same facility as gluten-free oats we get sick from all Bob's Red Mill...

ARCHIVED Should I See A Rheumatologist?
GlutenFreeManna replied to lynnelise's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wait, you have a coffee allergy but you still drink it? What?!? Why don't you try cutting out coffee? I know the caffiene is very addictive and hard to give up but this is your health we're talking about. And about soy, unless you are making everything from scratch or you are living outside the US you would be surprised where it shows up. I have had... -
ARCHIVED Should I See A Rheumatologist?
GlutenFreeManna replied to lynnelise's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you tried eliminating other foods besides just gluten? Soy makes me very fatigued. I can not get out of bed most days if I eat soy and I get sick more often too. If you are having joint pain a lot of people also find eliminating nightshades helps. I also agree with the previous poster about getting the test results and reading them for yourself.... -
ARCHIVED Is Contamination Unlikely?
GlutenFreeManna replied to milkmommy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Normally I would agree with Skylark but I remmember your post about your husband not supporting your diet and completely disregarding your efforts to make a safe gluten-free area for you. Unless this situation has changed you can still be getting contaminated and getting sick from it. many people become more sensitive (symptom-wise) to small amounts of... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Deal With Stress?
GlutenFreeManna replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I second this suggestion. Soy gives me migraines and increases anxiety. -
ARCHIVED Moving To Ireland?
GlutenFreeManna replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do they have boats to travel to Ireland? I'm jealous! I would love to go but still too afraid to fly again. So if Karen books the cruise with gluten-free food I'm there. ETA: Have fun Strawberry and give us an update on how it goes! -

ARCHIVED What's For Breakfast Today?
GlutenFreeManna replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I still can't do black beans but hummus, cooked chick peas and lentils never bothered me. I'm also back to being able to have pinto beans as refried beans in small amounts but I can't overdo it. I would gladly give up the few beans I can eat to go back to eating cheese. I guess we always want what we can't have. I just tell myself it could be worse and... -
ARCHIVED Breakfast Casserole
GlutenFreeManna replied to freeatlast's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yeah, people that can eat pork tend to think chicken sausage is weird, LOL! I didn't realize this until recently when I had guests and I served them chicken sausage. They thought it tasted good but I didn't warn them it was chicken (I've been allergic to pork for so long I don't really remember the difference in taste) and they were taken by surprise. ... -
ARCHIVED Breakfast Casserole
GlutenFreeManna replied to freeatlast's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yum! This Looks very good and is very similar what I posted that I make overnight in the slow cooker except with ham, bacon or sausage. Breakfast casseroles are really so versatile! You can throw whatever you want in them. Just don't use vanilla flavored milk if using a non-dairy milk sub. -
ARCHIVED Meijer Organic Broth
GlutenFreeManna replied to MrsNewman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oops I didn't see this post before. I agree with Peter that these look safe. The only thing I would suspect is the filtered water just because organic companies seem to like to use barley in their "filtered water". It's up to you what you do. I would either try them and see how I feel or give them away. For the future if you like to buy organic my favorite... -
ARCHIVED Breakfast Casserole

I use Al Fresco Breakfast chicken sausages OR Harvestland apple and maple chicken sausage. Both are smaller than the ones she used. The only reason I use the brands I use though is that I'm allergic to pork and they are the only non-pork sausages I have found without pork casings and also without any cheese, soy or gluten. I bet you could use any type... -
ARCHIVED Meijer Organic Broth
GlutenFreeManna replied to MrsNewman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't say why but I have noticed more organic companies add wheat to things that don't need it. That said IF wheat is an ingredient it has to be listed by law. The only risk would be rye or barley hidden in "natural flavors". I've never seen rye but sprouted barley water sometimes is used in organic products. It may also not be on the list if it is... -

Here's one that sound similar to what she is talking about, but it's done in the slow cooker: Open Original Shared Link I haven't made that one but I have made this one more than once: Open Original Shared Link And it's really good. If you do it in the slow cooker one of the advantages is that it can stay warm on the warm setting until they are... -

ARCHIVED Cupcakes
GlutenFreeManna replied to come dance with me's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think you are asking the wrong people then if that's what you want to know. Prior to my gluten-free days, no I would not have paid that much for muffins unless it was for a cause that was very close ot my heart. I don't see a lot of non-gluten-free/non-vegan people buying gluten-free vegan muffins. People may buy them because it supports a good cause... -

This is my position as well. I would have to know you really well and know how "gluten-free" your kitchen really is. But I would also need to know all the ingredients since I can't have soy and I have had bad reactions to quinoa. I wouldn't want to bother askign allt he questions I would need to ask to feel safe. For gluten-free baked goods I think that... -
ARCHIVED Am Sick From Texas Roadhouse
GlutenFreeManna replied to JoyVertz's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The PP's are right. They don't have a gluten-free menu anymore. This is the statement from their website: "While we recognize that some guests have specific dietary needs, we are no longer able to offer our gluten-free menu at this time. It was a very difficult decision, but we concluded that due to the multi-use of utensils, supplier changes, substitutions... -

You got me craving grilled cheese! I can't have any dairy, so here's what I did instead: Took two slices of Rudi's bread and spread them with roasted red pepper hummus and the outsides with coconut oil. Drizzled a little olive oil in the pan and fried it up just like a grilled cheese. The bread stuck to the pan a little but was nicely fried and crispy... -
ARCHIVED Cooking For Non Celiac's
GlutenFreeManna replied to james-12's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you are cooking something with gluten for them, no you cannot use the same pan to make your food. Also if the pans you currently own are non-stick you will need to get new ones to use ONLY for gluten-free food. Gluten gets in the scratches of non-stick pans, cannot be cleaned out and then can contaminate the next thing you make. Cast iron is another... -
Um ew. Yes your husband should brush his teeth really well before being, um intimate in any way. Kissing him is for sure off limits. Another somewhat um delicate thing to consider is if he eats a sandwich then goes to pee he probably is not washing his hands before touching himself. At most he might wash them after. But he has just put gluten traces...
