  1. The last place that I want to chance being cc'd is traveling, and at a special event to boot. It would have been wrong for them to be miffed with you if you insisted on bringing your own food on their special day, not understanding how important it is for you to avoid trace gluten. I feel that you are lucky to have family that did what they could to accomodate...
  2. About 6 months after removing gluten (and dairy/soy) I started introducing some of my old unprocessed foods back. One thing I found was an immediate bloating/nausea/achy reaction to raw stone fruit, like peaches, plums (especially), etc. Same now with raw almonds, where before I munched them all the time. But I do recall prior to going gluten free, whey...
  3. My symptoms were mostly neuro as well, although I did not have the tingling and numbness. Mostly acute lightheadedness, brain fog, memory deteoriation, lethargy, that sort of thing. I started feeling better within the first month or so, and by the six month mark I was bursting with energy and no signs of the neuro symptoms unless I was cc'd. But I will...
  4. I know it can be frustrating at first. But I think you're on the right track. I am Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerant. My intestines are perfectly healthy and have never shown any sign of damage. But my body produces antibodies to gluten, which means that gluten is a foreign substance in my system. I was always a big gluten eater until I was in my 40's...
  5. Purity Farms makes a clarified butter (ghee) that is certified casein free. I purchase it at the local grocery but I'm sure you can find it online. If you've never had ghee, it's just butter with all the milk solids removed. You can actually make it yourself - I've seen procedures online - but it takes time and I'm not sure how I'd test to be sure all...
  6. Yes! Gluten withdrawal is normal for some. It was for me! Please hang on if you've just been at it a couple weeks. I think by the third week I started noticing a bit of an improvement but I think everyone is different. My symptoms were mostly neurological, and by the end of that third week it was also recommended that I try removing soy from my diet as...
  7. So sweet! I guess he figured that covered all the food groups, including extra vitamin C in the soda.
  8. Haha! I guess she thought that pita bread comes from the gluten free pita plant!!! Hysterical!
  9. You are so lucky to have found someone wonderful right out the gate. I had to kiss a few gluten-stupid frogs to find a professional competent in matters of gluten/casein/soy inolerance. If I would have listened to all the instructions given to me by dieticians and doctors before that, I'd still be very sick and struggling. I heard statements such as: ...

Looks like you're eating well, is it all whole, unprocessed foods? That was the only way I could remain strictly gluten-free/DF/SF. If so, then it could easily be cross contamination especially if there are other gluten eaters in the household. Here are some things I learned the hard way: Can't share a toaster with someone eating gluten Can't share...
  11. Totally agree with this and all the good advice above. I'd also add that even doctors sometimes aren't in the know, but dangerously think they are. Best bet is to take responsibility for what happens to you from the get go. Didn't thoroughly read all the posts above so it may have been mentioned, but also keep in mind that if you are still symptomatic...
  12. So sad to hear about your little friend's passing. You remind me that I spent years as a younger person glossing over my mom's "mystery" symptoms, I guess since the doctor couldn't find anything wrong with her I just didn't take it as seriously as it was. I'm sure we weren't there for her when it really mattered. How wrong we all were, and I feel badly...
  13. There are more scientific minds than mine on the site but the first thing that always strikes me about products like these is that I'd still be damaging my body. Since gluten is able to affect not just the digestive system, but the brain, joints, skin, etc., then it seems to be able to permeate the entire body on a deeper level. Hopefully someone else can...
  14. It's just my husband and I, and he gluten a few times a week (pasta, bread, beer), otherwise just eats what I eat. Part laziness, part curiosity. Here are our major rules of the kitchen: I have my own dedicated counter to prepare foods and he has his but I could still do this by preparing my food on a plate or off contact with the counter by using saran...
  15. I'm like you, I react to trace amounts. Without the support of my husband, I don't now what I would have done. Everyone on this forum knows you are not being extreme. I have a feeling you'll get responses on this post, and when you do, please show them to your family. Here's my two cents: To all family members - I know it's hard to understand...
  16. Oops! Here you go! Link to recipe for black bean brownies!! I use the Enjoy Life chocolate chips on top but not even necessary if you can't find them. Open Original Shared Link
  17. I certainly understand where your angst comes from but (I think you know what's coming here...) you might sorely regret the notion to make a day of overdosing on gluten after an accidental ingestion. There are so many stories out there of slow painful recovery from even cross contamination for some folks - consider the idea of symptoms commensurate with...
  18. I think carageenan is one of those additives that are considered "natural" but some people have problems with, like annatto. I figure if I can't buy fresh carageenan somewhere, it's got to be a processed substance or some sort of extraction from something else. I generally stay away from it but the few times I have ingested something with those types of...
  19. Your post got me thinking because in June 2010 I tested with an IgA reaction to casein of 29 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units). I know I'll always have the intolerance to gluten but since my inquiring mind wanted to know, I called Enterolab just a few moments ago, and was told that it actually IS quite possible to reintroduce dairy after 6 to 1...
  20. I know exactly what you're going through. I went through a decent withdrawal myself when I removed gluten & casein from my diet. Hang in there. Lasted for a couple weeks and things began to improved fairly quickly. My symptoms were mostly neurological but that anxious, nervous, dizzy, panicky feeling was the scariest part of it. The gastro I...
  21. You would think. But the pharmacist only knew that it didn't list gluten, casein or soy on the label as an ingredient. Rather scary. Is there a brand of liquid magnesium citrate that someone has used that was safe?
  22. Does anybody have any information on CVS pharmacy brand liquid magnesium citrate? I have a routine colonoscopy scheduled and seem to be having trouble verifying whether this is gluten, casein and soy free. Has anyone ever tried this one, lemon flavor is what I have. I still have time to get an alternate suggestion if someone knows of one.
  23. So happy to read stories about someone who got results from a doctor but didn't let that be the last word. And I think you're a wonderful parent to have continued the crusade to find out what was causing symptoms for you and your child. Bravo!!!
  24. I'm one who believes that most humans, even those not suffering from celiac disease, could benefit from cutting back on gluten. I do understand that the current gluten free fad appears to trivialize the gluten intolerant or celiac situation, but it's just that - a fad. It will go away. But without the raised awareness in the last couple years I doubt I...
  25. I can feel how distraught and depressed you are and I am so sorry that you're having to go through this. I feel it's a good thing to give yourself time to rant and vent right now, and I can't think of better medicine at this point, as opposed to holding these feelings in. It's easy to become overwhelmed. But please know that there are MANY MANY MANY on...
