  1. I know what its like when I'm not feeling well. It seems that the world is crashing in around me. But it's just an illusion. Everything can be made better. I have simple advice: Zero in on tackling the one problem that can help you cope with all the others - START DOING THINGS THAT MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER. With or without needles, staying on a strict gluten...
  2. My favorite gluten-free/DF/SF goodie is black bean brownies. If you've never tried this recipe from Living Without magazine, you'll be amazed at how wonderful they are. Don't be put off by black beans in dessert. Even if I could eat anything without trouble, I'd still be eating these instead of the ones with flour. They are the best brownies I've ever...

    ARCHIVED Fed Up!

I'd go along with the doc who suggested gluten free. Sorry, I know it can be frustrating at times. But just because you tested negative for celiac does not mean that gluten isn't doing a number on you. Or perhaps dairy, or soy, or something else you're ingesting. To make matters worse, many doctors, while perhaps well-meaning, just don't get it (such as...
  4. My vote is cross contamination as well. Not only that, but dairy and soy make me feel the same as gluten, maybe even MORE woozy with dairy/soy. I've seen recipes for flourless cakes that have added dairy in the cake or icing.
  5. I love reading stories like this!!!! We're still in the dark ages with this, but maybe we can see sparks of light at the end of the tunnel.
  6. Welcome! You're in the right place! I too am classified as non celiac gluten intolerant, and my symptoms are almost all neurological. I don't have seizures but prior to removing gluten from my diet, I sometimes I felt like I could just "blink out of existence", just lose consciousness. It took a few months before that subsided completely. I also...
  7. I totally agree that you may be experiencing additional food intolerances. I wasn't feeling better until I removed any trace of soy in addition to the gluten and casein, PLUS totally went unprocessed - and foods that were easiest to digest. In fact, I started with only a few foods and ate only those for a few days. If I felt good, then I add another food...
  8. Thank goodness you haven't taken his advice if he knows you are positive for gluten intolerance and/or celiac. You know, if an attorney told you to go ahead and wait one day beyond the last day you could legally file a lawsuit, and your suit was thrown out as a result, we call that MALPRACTICE, and you can recover damages from that lawyer you depended on...
  9. So sorry to hear you are still in so much pain after five months. I know it sometimes takes awhile to start to feel well and everyone is different, but I wonder if you are reacting to more than gluten. Plus, I see you have other health issues, such as the back trouble, which give you pain, but the brain fog and insomnia are clearly the glowing wedding ring...
  10. I think the an old misconception is hopefully being put to pasture, that being gluten intolerant or having celiac disease must necessarily mean projectile D in all cases. Everyone is different in the way they react to gluten, and exhibiting a flare up of psoriasis may indeed be your body signaling that you have ingested something your system can't handle...
  11. Most people seem to do better with a gluten sterile environment but if that is not possible, there are probably many tips on the forum to help avoid cross contamination. My husband eats only one type of gluten, french bread, and he is very careful to keep me from getting sick, e.g., he has a special counter top to prepare his sandwiches. I don't even eat...
  12. I feel badly too when I ingest caramel color, not my usual dizziness but yukky stomach. Perhaps it's affecting you because it's nothing but adulterated corn syrup and your system is becoming picky. Or perhaps you have other sensitivies. Anyway, maybe a little pepto bismal and/or activated charcoal tablets, and a good bit of healthy water? That's worked...
  13. You poor sweetie! Sorry your doctor left you with more questions than answers. You're not alone. I'm only on this forum for the past year or so, but I don't know what I would have done in the first months without the wealth of knowledge, experiences and support I got from here, searching, reading, posting. My advice would be to keep coming back. ...

    ARCHIVED Brain Fog

Thank you so much for this article! It describes my life with non-celiac gluten intolerance to a tee!

    ARCHIVED Brain Fog

I agree that the brain fog and neuro symptoms aren't always (or solely) from vitamin deficiency when it comes to gluten intolerance or Celiac. I'm sure it certainly can be, but in my case, it had to be something else. I believe that gluten has the propensity to attack any organ, including the brain. A year ago I found out about my intolerance to gluten...
  16. Just a suggestion - what about ghee, clarified butter? Purity Farms has one that is certified casein free on the label. I've never tried it, so I defer to anyone else out there who has ingested without problems. I know it will solidify much like the consistency of coconut oil but I'm not a baker, so not sure how good it will do there.

    ARCHIVED Brain Fog

Ask your husband if he ever took an antihistamine that left him feeling "out of it", like his head wasn't attached to the rest of him. If he has, then he knows what it was like for me 24/7 - yes, I'd wake up in the middle of the night with brain fog. When it was at it's worst, it was nothing short of frightening, and I am no hypochondriac like Joe in the...
  18. You sound like you have a great attitude. That's what will get you through anything!! Like my father used to say, "if you LET them, the mud people will always win."

Yes!!! Love digital art & photography, (Photoshop, etc., & I wrote a mystery novel a few years ago but couldn't get it published. Oh, well. I've always said I should w...

  19. Hi! Thanks for your supportive response to my "bailing"post. Truly appreciate it. Hey, I see we share a love of photography, writing and brain games!! I did them all to keep my sanity while I was so ill:>)

    Thanks again!!IH

  20. I understand completely. This former pizza & pasta chow hound/donut junkie who went years feeling dizzy and scared, thanks her lucky stars every day that all I had to do was give up gluten, casein and soy. It's been a year and I feel incredibly lucky that I found this out in time to have a life. I truly wish that everyone could feel this way. I know...
  21. I try never to eat more than one new thing at a time. I know it's difficult sometimes, but it sure makes it easy to pinpoint what I should avoid. Otherwise, I'd be avoiding things I could actually tolerate, or even worse, having to re-ingest something that makes me feel cruddy just to fish out the culprit.
  22. Welcome! You're in the right place. I've gleaned an abundance of information and support on this forum, more than any other outlet. There are so many people here who truly care. I'm diagnosed the same as you, non-celiac but with a world of trouble ingesting gluten, for me mostly neurological. Shortly after removing gluten from my diet, I also stopped...
  23. My gluten reactions are almost all neurological, all the symptoms you cite were present for me on a regular basis, albeit, not as severe as the withdrawal phase. About a week after going totally gluten free (although I was still careless about dairy and soy at that time), I had a horrible episode in the middle of the night. I awoke to an intense feeling...
  24. Congratulations!!!!! I'm right there with you, I'll be a year in 6 days. And I have the same problem with casein and soy. I'm sure I could find a great gluten free thin pizza crust, but with no cheese???, I admit I haven't even tried. Believe it or not, if I could wish for one food item to be added to my diet without problem, it would be mozzarella...
