ARCHIVED Low Vitamin D
Joni63 replied to Worriedtodeath's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have low vitamin D right now and have spent some time researching about it. I've learned and my Nutritionist/Naturopath has told me when your vitamin D levels are low, the sun and a regular multi-vitamin isn't enough to get the levels up to where they should be. It will only maintain them where they are. I have no idea about amounts for a 2 year old... -
ARCHIVED Where Is He...?
Joni63 replied to FoxersArtist's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Anna, I am so thrilled for you and Gabe. It's so amazing to me that gluten can cause so many problems we never would have thought of. Your post hit home for me because my mom always said I pushed her away and squirmed and was never affectionate. I can't wait to tell her now that it must have been the gluten. She is 70 and I am 44. All these years she... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Is Beating Me Down...
Joni63 replied to Joni63's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey All, I went back and read over this post and even though I'm still quite overwhelmed with the amount of things I have to accomplish, I have started to feel better and am slowly getting more done. It's a start and it feels really good! Oh and I'm getting my kids to do much more around the house which has helped tremendously. They don't get... -
ARCHIVED I Have Iron Deficiency Anemia
Joni63 replied to Wonka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Floravit is also made by Salus but is gluten free. Floradix is not. They are packaged in the same type boxes/bottles, but Floravit does say gluten free on the label. Sorry you are feeling so badly from it. -

ARCHIVED Naturopath Questions
Joni63 replied to blondebombshell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As Ursa said, you can call your insurance company and find out if they cover the visit. Mine does not cover the cost of the visit, but will cover blood tests and prescriptions. Each insurance is different so you will definately want to check it out first. The tests they recommend will depend upon your symptoms. If bloated tummy is the reason your going... -
ARCHIVED If I Am Gluten Free- Why Would My Ferritin Be Low?
Joni63 replied to ItchyMeredith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi ItchyMeredith, I'm currently having a similar problem. Been gluten free for 9 months and serum ferritin was just found to be 7. It was never tested before, but I have felt tired and like I've been slowly losing energy for years. Some things I think have contributed to this are increasing my exercise, heavy menstrual cycles, and cutting out iron fortified... -
Frito Lay doesn't use dedicated lines for their "gluten free" products. I'm wondering if it's not a cc issue? edited to add: *** with the exception of Lays Stax, they are made on a dedicated gluten free line***

Yeah, it really doesn't sound good at all when you think of it like that. I didn't get sick all at once though, my symptoms have been gradual and they started when I was pregnant for my 2nd child with yeast infection issues. I'm definately one of those that candida seemed to bring out the symptoms of Celiac. You are both lucky to have such great...

ARCHIVED Can You Be "intolerant" To Dairy Even If You Don't Have Any Gi Symptoms?
Joni63 replied to CuriousOne's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm glad you brought this up CuriousOne, I've been wondering about it myself. It sounds like milk is bothering you. I think everyone's symptoms are different. I get bloated, but no other symptoms and feel extremely fatigued. My upper eyelids also get puffy when I have these symptoms and I just plain feel bad. I have narrowed it down to milk or chocolate... -
Thank you Rachel! Your very lucky to have such a great team of doctors and that the MD's you see are open minded. The ART testing sounds very interesting. I've never heard of it before, but I'm curious about it now. I'll have to google it! I was glad and relieved when she told me to order everything online, especially seeing the huge checklist that...

I figured I would update on my visit. WOW! I never thought I would be taking so many pills! It is a very complex regimen - you were right okgrace. I have a list next to the supplements so I know what to take each meal and at bedtime. It was over a week ago now, but I started a very complex supplement regimen the day after I saw her so...

ARCHIVED Celiac Is Beating Me Down...
Joni63 replied to Joni63's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That is exactly how I approach it. My kids have so many things that I don't really think the money incentive would really be appropriate or really appreciated by them. My husband's family always made Christmas and birthdays huge with tons of gifts and he has carried that on with our kids. My childhood was the opposite. We had very little money and often... -
ARCHIVED Tired And Sick ? Need Help
Joni63 replied to MelliDuff's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think I'm dealing with similar issues right now. I have iron and d deficiencies and was told by my doctor to stop working out (even 3 days/week) until my iron is back up. She said it would only drain my energy that I needed for everyday tasks. I'm sure that is contributing to your fatigue. I had mono as a child and I'm supposed to be tested for the... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Is Beating Me Down...
Joni63 replied to Joni63's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ha! That doesn't surprise me. It's ashame too because it was around $17.00 for the bottle. Turns out I needed a lot higher supplements than that so it worked out ok anyway. I think this might be the Norwegian brand. missy'smom, I tried the list today when they got home from school. It worked out really well! The only thing I forgot to do is... -
ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
Joni63 replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Where did you get the brushes? Can you tell me roughly how much they cost? Maybe II could check it out online. I'm looking for more brushes, but I think I want some smaller than the EM brushes. I like the kabuki's but the one I have is really just too big for me. Well, it's fine for all over the face applications, but I really need a kabuki type blush... -

ARCHIVED Why Am I So Unbelievably Tired?
Joni63 replied to Nan2N's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My ferriton was only 7, the lowest range on the chart was 12. My doctor told me to take a large amount of iron every day. Didn't your doctor tell you what you should do about it? I would think if it's in the low/normal range they could give you some type of iron supplements for it, but I have no idea what amount. I would think that's something you shouldn... -
ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!

Oh such a great point Julie! The one thing I think of most when I first tried the foundation is that it really has to be buffed in a lot! Seems everyone has to play around with getting that right...so don't get frustrated Andrea we have tips for getting the right color too! No, I tried using one in the past (a looooong time ago) and couldn't stand... -

ARCHIVED A New Weight Loss Support/accountability Thread
Joni63 replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Oh gosh, I know I try to eat only half the carbs or less because they are so packed in a normal size portion of gluten free food! I wouldn't mind not exercising, but I will almost certainly gain weight until I can again. I did do pretty well cutting the calories yesterday, so maybe that will compensate (hopefully... ) Good for you, glad your feeling... -
ARCHIVED Why Am I So Unbelievably Tired?
Joni63 replied to Nan2N's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Nan2N, I had similar symptoms and recently got my vitamin levels checked. Both my Serum Ferritin and my Vitamin D were extremely low. From what others say, that could cause severe fatigue. Celiacs usually have not absorbed vitamins properly for quite some time before diagnosis. Can you ask your doctor to check your A, D, E, K, all B's, and full... -
ARCHIVED A New Weight Loss Support/accountability Thread
Joni63 replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm glad your not getting anxious about it. You do get a lot of exercise compared to most people. I wonder about your intake of calories too like others have mentioned. I found something online about the amount of calories you should be taking in compared to your exercise regimen. It's at Open Original Shared Link. I'm sure there are sites that are... -
ARCHIVED A New Weight Loss Support/accountability Thread
Joni63 replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
hightop girl, I'm just wondering if you weigh yourself the same time every day? I know my weight fluctuates about 3 lbs each day so I just take what my morning weight says. It's supposed to be more consistent after not eating over night. Forgive me if this was mentioned before, I'm not sure.
