  1. Does this cause a problem for anyone? I have a sensitivity to sugars (cane and beet), honey, agave, xylitol, raisens and dates. I wonder if this is something esle I need to be looking for. Wikipedia states: FOS is extracted from fruits and vegetables such as bananas, onions, chicory root, garlic, asparagus, barley, wheat, j
  2. I drink my coffee black, too, but the French Vanilla Almond flavorings in the coffee got me. However, my coffee was ground. Perhaps whole beans do not come with flavorings.
  3. I haven't read everything closely, so perhaps someone has already mentioned this. If you decide to continue drinking coffee, be sure to check it for flavorings. The flavoring in my coffee was a problem for me.
  4. Skylark, I had to chuckle a little when I read the symptoms of celiac in these articles. No wonder doctors have a hard time diagnosing it. "For celiac disease, symptoms are weight loss, steatorrhea, bloating, cramping, and malnutrition."
  5. You could have gluten intolerance without having celiac disease. Check out this Wall Street Journal article about recent research by Dr. Fasano of the University of Maryland Celiac Center. Open Original Shared Link
  6. Just for your information, my dry eye problem went away when I went gluten-free. I just realized that the other day when I became aware of the fact that it had been six months since I had used any med. for my eyes.
  7. I found a magnesium that does not have a laxative effect on me, from Angstrom Minerals. As I understand it, most magnesiums cause diarrhea because they are only about 10% absorbable. The Angstrom Minerals are almost 100% absorbed. It definitely works for me--totally takes care of my nightly leg cramps. Open Original Shared Link
  8. Your morning smoothie would have me on the toilet all day. Please add some protein. You ask what a normal healthy bowel movement looks like. I happened to find this on the internet. It's a morning talk show on Canadian TV. The topic of discussion is "What your BM says about you!" They discussed seven different types of BM's, then showed what each...
  9. Just a few random thoughts: After having read a number of books and been on this forum for a while--I don't think that there is any food that someone does not have a problem with. I am allergic/intolerant of lamb. My sister has several spices she cannot tolerate. It takes three days for my symptoms to show up. It may take a while to figure out...
  10. My daughter's canker sores were diagnosed at Mayo Clinic to be due to iron malabsorbtion--a common celiac problem. Get your iron levels checked, not just hemoglobin, but also ferritin, % of saturation, etc. Your problem will probably not resolve until you start absorbing nutrients properly.
  11. Gluten Free for Dummies is a good book. Celiac Disease, A Hidden Epidemic by Dr. Peter Green is a bit more technical. I have just finished reading Healthier Without Wheat by Dr. Stephen Wangen which I found very helpful. It addresses not only celiac, but also non-celiac gluten intolerance, which is where some of us are.
  12. For me it has caused osteoporosis. The spinal density on my latest bone scan was 58% of the normal young adult. Whether this will reverse or not now that I am absorbing nutrients, I don't know--I can only hope so.
  13. For whatever reason I cannot open the message you sent me.

  14. I wanted to let you know that I received the book about neuropathy. I put a post under "Coping" titled Peripheral Neuropathy, My book came in, sharing.

  16. I have no idea if this would be relevent at all, but like you, I had a major sweet tooth problem. If I ate one cookie, I would eat ten--I couldn't stop. However, I found out I am allergic/sensitive/whatever to sugar--cane/beet sugar, honey, agave, xylitol, raisens, dates--haven't tested molasses. Just one other thing to consider.
  17. Please keep us posted on what you learn. I'm just on the verge of asking for something to help with the burning at night. Still hoping that the nerve damage will heal and wondering what I can do to speed it along.
  18. I just noticed a few days ago that it has been over a month since I have used my sup. for dry eyes and my eyes are doing fine.
  19. They come in six flavors. I had a reaction to two of them--smokehouse and country ranch. Its been a while since I had them, but I am going to try again as it is possible there was something else involved.
  20. Or is it possible that gluten sensitivity/intolerance is the basis of it all? Is celiac just one of a variety of immune problems caused by gluten intolerance?
  21. My reactions are not severe like yours, but I was reacting to something. I kept a detailed food journal for months but could not pinpoint the problem food. I should say, I thought I was keeping a detailed journal. When I finally wrote down EVERYTHING that went into my mouth, I was able to pinpoint my once-a-week cup of coffee
  22. I am grateful for this forum and all the patient posters. You never know when you will come across that post which will give you just the clue you need. So I read and read and read.
  23. Appreciate the warning. When you're feeling good, its easy to forget.
  24. I see that it has been a year since I started this thread. In June my son did EnteroLab testing which showed him to gluten and casein sensitive. With his personality type, I think he will be able to maintain a gluten-free diet even though he doesn
  25. Among my symptoms I would list anxiety/depression and huge problems with fatigue. They clear up totally when gluten free.
