veggies in soups is a great idea - even works for (*gag*..) lima beans <still have no idea what purpose they serve on the planet lolz
  4. welcome to the forum you're sure it's not just a hangover lolz just kidding! if you are planning to get tested, you should still be eating gluten. i guess you are correct in your suspicions, but you might want to rule out any other diseases that need different treatment. there are other disorders/diseases that a gluten-free diet is considered beneficial...
  5. it's back to school time and it occurred to me that this is probably the best time of year to find just the 'right' lunchbox or travel cooler. every store has a different variety but even the grocery stores have a back to school aisle. i got myself a sweet igloo insulated lunchbox and some nifty small containers for condiments. plus, if you want to save...
  6. mamaw knows her stuff i have a celiac 'candidate' grandson (parents had him 'tested' and he is neg even though he has all the indicators) and he had a rough time last year at pre-school getting to the bathroom in time. i hope he does better this year - it sure is embarrassing - meemo <that's me!) is going to have a chat with his teachers this year...
  7. something else to think about: if your gut is healing, many of these things are irritants to damaged intestines. yes - keep a food journal! but keep in mind that you may be able to add these things back once you are healed enough (so that's good news - yay!) w8n4, you might want to skip dairy for awhile until your villi heal because that's where the stuff...
  8. if you breathe it in and swallow it (ingest it) - don't hang out in bakeries, lolz grocery store in-store bakeries don't really do much 'baking' - most of their stuff is premade/pre-portioned. they might *bake* the bread in-store, but there isn't much flour flying around from removing a dough ball from a package and putting it into a baking tray. ...
  9. no, that's not why i switched shampoos and soaps, etc. it is because these personal care products can inadvertently get into your mouth when you're using them, ie: shampoo (unless you're at the salon with your head in the sink) can run down your face when you're showering and into your mouth. anything neck up (because it can get into your mouth) i replaced...

hi tami - i had to take mega-doses of vitamin D (still do) when i started taking it my D was 24 and now it's 54. it's taken about a year, but makes a huge difference and all my other vitamin levels are now normal. how long have you been taking them? i only eat the veggies i like pizza sauce 'counts'
  11. i got tested to rule out other things (like crohns, ulcer, etc) at the same time my doc was looking for my celiac dx. cyclinglady is right - if you want an accurate test, you need to be eating gluten before you get tested, unfortunately. i made the same move (going gluten free before i got tested - i was skeleton like and it was the last thing i was going...
  12. lolz! today was the first day i have 'made' breakfast in a while - i have been 'cheating' and eating glutino toaster pastries (like pop-tarts) they are surprisingly good if you're a pop tart kid!
  13. dahhhh!! love2!! i'm making french toast with (wait for it......) raspberry jam - it's smucker's, but it's still raspberry. and i'm putting maple syrup on the whole mess. and ham by now, it is well into the afternoon, so it's brunch
  14. greenchick - have you read the newbie 101 thread? lots of good advice and you are pretty new to all this. 2 months is not very long and i did so much better myself when i embraced the whole lifestyle and it's all about not getting any gluten at all. period. if you are getting cc'd anywhere, it will put your body back when it comes to healing. i was underweight...

(ok, i love brianna's. i can not duplicate the poppy seed one, so there is always one in the pantry or fridge) otherwise, i make a mean creamy honey dijon and my sweet vidalia vinegarette is freeking yumz. but, really, i can live with just oil & red wine vinegar with salt & pepper and be just as happy shake it up, love2!

true dat. i make my own salad dressings - got tired of spending a half hour reading labels in the condiment aisle soy! yay! (not)
  17. yes, i looked it up how do you like it there? at first, i had no idea it was the soy - i had quit dairy in the beginning, so i subbed soy milk for regular milk. it was frustrating because i kept getting sick and i knew i was being so careful!! it probably made me clean up my act a whole lot better and be religiously using my food journal. i read...
  18. take heart, sharon! give your body more time to heal - at 3 years gluten-free i am still having nerve damage healing. you said it yourself (and i was the same way) you are feeling the best in 25 years. i had 25 years worth of damage, i figure it's going to take some time to heal things. the other day i balanced on one foot and picked up a paper towel...

well, i wrote a big, giant blah blah response, hit some button, and erased the entire thing LOLZ - i need more tea! i don't eat out much, it's too much worry and hassle. when i do, it's going to be someplace they have a 'chef' not just a 'line cook' like they have in chain restaurants. and NO fast food. (although i am going to take a chance on red...
  20. if gluten gets me, i don't notice it right away. i get a headache, i start to feel tired, i get a pain under my ribcage <telltale!, i turn into a total raving jerk <then i am sure.... oops. by the time the D kicks in (24-48 hrs later), i have cleared my schedule to accomodate another 12 days of feeling like total crap. i don't know whether the reactions...
  21. pcb - i have read the same thing about why they call them 'nightshades' - they do their growing at night. in googling research, i was lead to the DEADLY nightshade plant called: nightshade lolz. i guess they are in the same family. you are so diligent in your experimenting! i love your installments i am a huge fan of food journals because they...
  22. right? because we are so *stealth* i would say, ok, just forget it..... but then she posts this: and i think she is just askin' for trouble. and bread with jam thieves. geez, love2, nothing like a little 'foody talkin' to push us right over the edge lolz - you can defeat us easily, though - just turn on the air conditioner, we'll freeze up...
  23. what if you got plain walnuts in the shells, washed them, air dried them, cracked them open and get the nut meat out yourself. no cross- contamination and then you have your nuts
  24. food journal is your friend! i have a secondary sensitivity to soy that will mimic a gluten reaction, but it doesn't last as long as a 'glutening' - headache, gas/bloating/D, fatigue, etc. it used to fool me (and make me crazy "what did i eat i was so careful?!") on the other hand, sometimes it's something stupid like my shampoo or using hand sanitizer...
  25. i know what you mean about things being clearer! i have no idea how i got my kids through to adulthood and worked full time as well - i was sick for a very long time until they finally figured it out. i am assuming you are on the younger side of the spectrum, so you are ahead of the game. it doesn't go away so you have to learn to manage it - after years...
