oh, this was an issue in my house in the 'beginning' - don't let gluten bread sandwich makers touch lunchmeat that you plan to eat. think about it, you get out the bread, put it on the plate, put on your condiments (another cc hotspot b/c of double dippers) and get your lunchmeat out of the package. so, gluten (from bread hand) is in the bag = you need... -

ARCHIVED New To This - And Frustrated!
notme replied to WisconsinKim's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
i bought a bunch of different flours (white rice, brown rice, sorghum, almond, etc) and some tapioca starch & potato starch and some xanthan gum and i mix my own depending on what i'm making - tried bob's at first but the blend is to 'beany' for me. they make gluten-free bisquick but it costs a mint if i am making a roux, i use unsalted butter and... -
ARCHIVED Why Has My Hunger Craving Hasn't Changed Since Going gluten-free?
notme replied to Renegade's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
i still feel like that sometimes - it's like somebody flips a switch and i am STARVING. i kind of like it because i was never hungry before. i used to think it was stupid for people to be so hungry! barty - i think this is true - finally digesting! and in another post you make a point about salads/veggies being hard to digest in the beginning. -
i go to the United Methodist church and we use bread, so my pastor lets me bring my own bread. i just bring it in a snack baggie and whip it out when they offer the bread and he blesses it just like the other bread and we have tiny individual glasses for the 'wine' (juice) which the lady who is in charge of purchasing buys the 'light' juice - contains...

here is a recipe from the interwebs - i found others on there if you're a fan of cool whip (i am not) that might be easier and isn't cool whip non-dairy? my kids dip their french fries in them. this recipe is not very dairy friendly, i'm afraid but i'll bet y'all are clever enough to sub in non-offending ingredients Homemade Chocolate Frosty Makes... -

notme replied to notme's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
aww, poor j tell him that's why you're moving - stoopit blight.... that's a bummer about the apples, too. we used to go apple picking up in ny state, soooo much fun, when we were kids we went with our parents and grandparents. then when we had kids we took them. something special about walking into one of their farm stands and all the apples are shiny... -

HAHAHA never!! billy 'weeded' my tarragon. now it's (tarra) gone the only thing i went all over town to find the right kind. damb. it. - the weeds are insane in the herb section. you can 'co-plant' to maximize your space. ski-lisa had posted such a plan earlier in this thread - i'll see if i can find it. i was sort of doing the 'cover crop' thing... -

notme replied to bellalunarena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
aww, sweetie, everybody feels the same way at first. it IS a shock! and you have to shift the way you eat - there's alot of things you have to re-learn. you are going through what most of us went through - it's actually a grieving process. and you may be having withdrawal, so treat yourself kindly. i would suggest chucking the dairy for a little while... -

lolz - rene, you said it in your topic title - EATING OUT IS HARD!!!! and it is. you'll get used to what you need to look out for. the guy who makes your popcorn might have made a hot-dog on a wheat roll right before he served your popcorn, or have gotten crumbs where they shouldn't be - 'normal' people <haha and i use that term loosely) don't think... -

notme replied to sliebman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED Negative Test Result, Still Think I Have It, Do I Need More Testing?
notme replied to sliebman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
how long had you been eating gluten free before the test? you should get your test results (to see what you were tested for exactly) and you are the one billionth person a doctor has told to 'try' gluten free and then do a blood test. if you are doing a good job with keeping your diet clean, your test will most likely come out negative. i went through... -

notme replied to notme's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
lolz! i am still pickling - the half-sours went over very well - they keep nicely in the fridge for a few weeks if you cut the brine with half water when they are the desired 'sour' - 36-72 hrs is the pickling time depending on your taste. that was just water, salt, garlic, dill. the polish nj people approved i'm putting some chow-chow up today...
