  1. have you tried using a food journal? may help identify what is causing you problems. also, if the rx was ciprofloxican, it's an antibiotic and will probably kill all the 'good' digestive bugs you need in your gut, as well as any infection your doc thinks you have (?) side effects include the big D and nausea. you might want to add a probiotic to help re...
  2. (i was just teasing - it'sall good ) they do more than that. i worked in the med staff office at a hospital and we were constantly setting up 'dinner meetings' where drug companies take a slew of docs out for fancy dinner, open bar, a short film and a whole lot of shmoozing. all paid for by the pharmaceutical co - i went to quite a few as support...
  3. tbolt wrote: (in my box lolz how dare you! ) "Unfortunately with Celiac's it is a profound life style change not just dietary restrictions. The largest percentage of people with Celiacs are asymptomatic and undiagnosed. If I were 20 years old with no symptoms and were diagnosed with Celiac's and told if I did not change my life style significantly...
  4. excuse me if i am disillusioned with the medical profession/big pharma. i know r&d has improved treatment of many diseases. that being said: maybe the legal protocol for the doctor, maybe the insurance carrier, but he DOES have to jump through hoops and pay a crapload for his insulin, and the pharmacy guards it like fort knox. i have never heard...
  5. update: bread and butter pickles (hub's grammy's recipe - it's awesome if anyone needs a good one) turned out very well - did not break any jars, but i chickened out of quarts just made a bunch of pint jars. with grape leaves in them <boy, i hope that is really a grapevine........ my crazy neighbor says it is, it looks like a grapevine. just for...
  6. oh, me! me! my blood test was neg but my doc could see the damage caused by celiac disease. but the biopsies/blood tests were all negative. by the time the tests were performed, though, i was already on the gluten-free diet, (and gained some weight, finally, and was able to keep food 'in' me lolz) so, with the response to the diet <people forget...
  7. that will never work for me: i'm an aquarius
  8. a diabetic can't just change their diet and be well. my son is type 1 and trust me: they milk him for every penny they can get out of him. you can't buy this unless you buy this as well <according to his insurance company. you can't just buy $30 worth of insulin, you need to drop a hunk of change. he can't just go get a few days worth until payday...
  9. i need that guy ^ he can be an ugly midget for all i care, look at him go!!! i sure hope your water issues are resolved(ing), ski! i am getting ready to trip on up to joisey - so i am a nervous wreck i don't know why, my car is ready, i have everything i need, etc etc etc i'm not even driving <i have a transporter; his name is howlnmad ...
  10. i get sick on any kind of seafood/fish that are farm raised. i quit buying farm raised stuff a long time before i ever got a celiac diagnosis. also, fish from china, vietnam, etc (swai, talapia <very very ill from those!) i never knew the reason, i just always buy wild caught and i do fine with that stuff - lolz - never associated that with celiac/wheat...
  11. if she had a positive blood test, (not to mention she seems to be thriving gluten free!!) you're the mama, you see the results of her getting glutened. you're her first defense and her last resort as a parent. even her pedi thinks so. he can do follow-up blood tests, etc, can't he? i would either get a better GI or be done with testing her and call it...
  12. actually, the opposite - untreated celiac is misdirecting your anti-bodies, the disease fighters, to fight gluten. so other things can sneak in and manifest (like cancer) - also, untreated celiac will make your whole body weak and sick. and holes in your intestines, because when your body fights gluten,, it also wrecks your guts. the holes allow bad cancer...
  13. i know - gives whole new meaning to the phrase: 'food baby' lolz
  14. yes, we all have crazy hypochondriac syndrome lolz - i had so many seemingly random health problems that nobody connected the dots. i had never even heard of celiac before i was diagnosed. ("hey. you have celiac. don't eat gluten. see ya!") the abdomen thing - you could actually *see* my (whatever - food? gas pockets?) moving around - felt <...
  15. (sorry! it should be still there, just out of sequence because there were other replies after that one)
  16. right - like you're conjuring up brain lesions in your imagination.... (..nation....nation....nation...........) i know everybody's got an opinion, but, damb: didn't alot of us have to combat that 'you just feel bad because you want to' syndrome?? and here it is again, from some other (REALLY?? Alan Levinovitz is an assistant professor of Chinese...
  17. yes, they did the skin test on her (also tested wheat on her skin and it came up neg. so her mom thinks that is the same as a celiac test......... um. no) so we have to be careful if we feed the grandkid pb&j for lunch, he have to wash up afterwards and don't touch anything, he's 4, so he is basically a noise with dirt on him lolz we don't dare...
  18. i just figured him for the guy with the hat at the end.... those girls *hate* that hat. i think every one of them kicked it
  19. have they tested you for celiac? you poor thing, that looks so itchy have you gone to an allergist? my neice has a peanut/tree nut contact allergy, but when she gets stressed she starts itching. (i want to try her gluten-free, but she will only eat junk food) her rash looks like yours - she gets it on the back of her legs and under her arms - and she...
  20. there are no words...........
  21. my damaged intestines are not in my head........ dude needs an anatomy lesson lolz
  22. have you been tested for anything else? i heard "ibs" for 25 years before i found out it was a *symptom* - i feel ya
  23. yes, ken, while we're picking your brain (the part w/o the scissor-holes and grape leaves lolz) : is there a reason some recipes designate using distilled water? i always use 'boiled' water, unless the recipe calls to boil the liquid, then i just use 'tap' because i'm going to boil it anyway.... just wondering what the advantage/difference is (besides...
  24. but wait! there's more! somebody knows what they are, but it's notme! any test listing people out there want to advise, just jump right on in....... you need to continue to eat gluten until the test - that i do know.
