  1. you are probably having withdrawals - i don't think it makes much difference whether you stop eating gluten little by little or all at once. at one point you are going to be eating none at all, and then withdrawals would begin. i felt better in a few weeks - one day i was still feeling like i had the (withdrawal) flu - still achy and listless, night sweats...
  2. a TRUE gluten free diet can be maintained without eliminating several of these. somebody is trying to mis-inform you.
  3. nope, no gluten in your drink mix - however, if you are sensitive to milk/dairy/casein or soy, that is clearly labeled. new allergy labeling makes it alot easier to determine if something has wheat or other common offenders in it. ie: if it doesn't say 'wheat' in the ingredients but something in the product is derived from wheat, it is supposed to say...
  4. you can *kill* a man with these suckers - seriously, we have zucchinis like louisville sluggers - i just made a huge zucchini lasagne (and one 'untouchable' one for me) and i only used (almost) ONE ZUCCHINI!! the only canning song i came up with the shop-rite can-can song, but it was an old video and you could get 5 cans of veges in 1983 for a dollar...
  5. marilyn, you crack me up today he is your sidekick, lolz! feel better, sweetie pies, tomorrow will be less sucky i hope.... today i had NO KIDS - they tried to give me 2 but i said NO they offered to double my pay..... (nobody pays me) so, got alot of stuff done around here - not as much as i wanted to - had a friend from church who passed away...
  6. if they are planning on testing her for celiac, she will need to be eating gluten, greeniebeanie is right. i thought your doc wanted to see if she responded positively on a gluten-free diet. if she did respond well, it sure might help her mood. (i think my 4 y.o. grandson is at least intolerant but his parents don't see the connection - ugh - frustrating...
  7. poor baby and poor mama!! (((((((hugs))))))) man, it's rough when our babies are sick (and you're 'it' - they just want mommy....) at 2-3, they're at a clingy age anyway - if you noticed a difference feeding her gluten-free, DO continue to. when you start this diet alot of times, it's two steps forward, one step back - she may just be having a bad...
  8. this thread is pretty old (last post 2006), so, manufacturers change their ingredients from time to time - it always pays to check and read all the labels.
  9. i usually go for the brand with the least ingredients smuckers natural works for me. it's like: peanuts. salt. the end. it is a little bit granier, and i keep it in the fridge. lolz - when it is cold it *is* like a rock i had trouble digesting *everything* in the beginning (AND I FREAKED! thinking there was gluten hidden everywhere) and i...
  10. right. i didn't go back on it for my scope, either, and we were mainly interested in ruling out other problems. when she took a look she could actually see the damage indicative of celiac. therefore, combined with response to the diet, she declared me celiac. whoop de doo lolz - still means the same thing: no gluten = feel better all over
  11. my opinion is: a weak positive is still positive. false negatives are common, false positives are not so much. personally, you couldn't pay me enough $$$ to eat gluten every day for 3 weeks (when you already have your answer) - i mean, unless you need it for legal/insurance reasons or whatnot. and even then................. not worth it to me
  12. indeed, gem is correct - corn and rice are safe.
  13. why, what in the world would make you think i'd do a thing like that??? (surely, the vacuum will get them out.......) i have been triage-ing green beans (saved quite a few, i was surprised <picked beans, did not wash them, left on back porch for 3 days) and it's 'my little pony's wedding day' - all day, evidently............ ya picked a fine...
  14. probiotics are good to help digestion and to help restore your gut flora also good if you have taken antibiotics, because antibiotics kill alllll bacteria, even the good bacteria that are supposed to help break down your food.
  15. now you're just running with scissors lolz - i'm gonna try out my grape leaves 'training wheels' on my next batch. with 5% vinegar (note to self: google bilimbi) our little pool has taught me that i know less than nothing about adjusting ph grape leaves ahoy!
  16. that's where i am at now - the 50,000 iu caps 1x per wk - when i started i was at something ridiculous, like 24.... yeah, it makes a HUGE difference, and i can tell when i'm 'due' - doc is going to check how i am doing at next visit. absolutely, i still have malabsorbtion issues - after years of undiagnosed damage, (as many of us have) i don't expect...
  17. i know what you mean about docs - i had so many prescriptions (that didn't work) - i finally just gave up and figured i had to live with feeling miserable. i finally lost so much weight (from malabsorbtion, i know now) that the doctor was going to put me in the hospital. i seriously think he was still guessing when he guessed the right dx
  18. sweetie - sometimes we don't know or somebody who would know hasn't been on - i know, it's frustrating especially with so many tests and trying to interpret them. hang in there, hopefully you will have answers soon!
  19. have you tried frying spinach in garlic & onions - i can do that no prob (so far, cheddar and jack are playing nice (YAY!), although i noticed i'm a little lightheaded this morning (?) wierd..... )
  20. when i hit the lottery, the compound is happening. you are head chef, love2 - anybody that can make us drool from halfway around the world...... i don't even know what finnish meatballs OR partridgeberries are but i want them!
  21. i would sooooo be his best friend when i was growing up, our neighbor was a german butcher - he would bring us home so many tasty goodies! i didn't realize how spoiled we were could not pronounce one word of what i was eating......... "here, arlene, have some loschtketkagenschnitzelhousen!" "OK!"
  22. i actually found the original and copied it into my cheat files it is now: SKI-LISA'S CREAMY GARLIC ENCHILADAS (WHICH ARE AWESOME!) so many recipes get put on this thread that i thought it would be hard to find but i just put the title in (i think the search has to be on the thread, though, not the forum?) and it came right up. helpful to find...
  23. hi, wallflower, welcome to gluten-free land - it sounds like you are having success. pretty amazing, huh?! pretty much the same thing happened to alot of us before anybody figured to 'connect the dots' all the seemingly unrelated symptoms that i had were resolved just by removing gluten. get tested - i know you said you have to wait - i was sure that...
  24. yum! that sounds good, too addie: i am probably going to pay for my cheese demanding hissy-fit tonight, but i have been very good. (for *me*.) i will hop back on the wagon..........................tomorrow..........................
  25. so, very sorry ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) been through that not too long ago. changed the way i thought about alot of things.... trying to find ski-lisa's creamy garlic enchiladas...... if not, it going to be regular easy cheezy enchiladas (and seeing if monterrey jack cheese is "acceptable" lolz who...
