  1. DP smoked a chicken today, just the way I like it. No sauce. Just mesquite chips and coal. We had that with Greek salad and Glutino parmesan garlic bagel chips. WalMart is carrying them! Stonyfield Chocolate ice cream for desert. Yesterday he smoked spare ribs I'd marinated overnight in papaya, cinnamon and brown sugar, then gave him a mop sauce...
  2. Lol! I got a kick out of your post, prickly. My mom always fed us pancakes. My brothers would eat over 10 of them. One is 6'6", the other is 6'2. We're in our 50's now, but that brought back some good memories. We all loved split pea soup with ham or sausage too. She made huge pots of pea soup. That's a love or hate thing though.
  3. What would we do without our holy pizza pans? Here's the link I mentioned before. Open Original Shared Link I cook it at the higher temperature and for a few minutes more, then let it rest on the counter about five minutes before I slice and serve it. It is the bomb. DP says it's as good as any pizza he had on "The Hill" in St. Louis. I'll...
  4. This is armchair advice, but I recommed lots of fluids and a long hot soak in the tub with epsom salts (1 - 2 cups) and baking soda (a whole cup). If you have any mint, throw that in there too! Pepto bismol won't hurt you, neither will Tylenol. Sorry you got zapped! P.S. Welcome to the forum, hope you feel better soon.
  5. I roasted three fat beets, a red onion and a fennel bulb today. I cut them up in large bite size chunks and stuck them on a 2 cookie sheets lined with parchment papaer, drizzled some olive oil and S&P on them, and stuck them in the oven for 35 minutes at 375 degrees. They're the bomb! I like those roasted root veggies on their own at room temp or...
  6. After eliminating a number of basically inedible products, I liked Chebe's first, and it is still a really good crust but it isn't as good as Against the Grain frozen pizza. That's just MHO. They have a store locator on their website, but do call ahead as they suggest. I totally understand the need for pizza.
  7. Yes, welcome to the forum Luv. A great book to purchase or check out from your Library is Dr. Peter Green's "Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic". It's been over a year since I read it, but I believe he said it wasn't uncommon to take two years to heal. Babs is giving you good advice, it has always helped me when I compare where I am now to what...
  8. "I call it the return of the seven dwarves: weepy, cranky, racy, spacey, dopey, angry and achy." Love it Irish! I did Angry in a big way before going gluten-free. I think I burnt the anger factor out of me. Weepy returns big time, and Spacey, Dopey and Achy all visit.
  9. We had pizza with smoked duck, onion and greek olives. It should have been good, but we smoked the duck with orange sauce and it made for a really wierd taste combo. Dear Wigglebutts (dog) was extraordinarily pleased because once we started picking the duck off, the pizza tasted good, and she LOVES duck. So we had Friday pizza night with an...
  10. I was shocked, but my local Wal-Mart is carrying a few Enjoy life products at very reasonable prices. Their snacks are produced in a dedicated facility, are palatable (I'm picky, so take that with a grain of salt, some of them have been downright good) and they are all free of the 8 top allergens. It had been awhile since I'd shopped there and didn...
  11. Thanks again for your links and responses. I'm actually pretty excited about Prickly's earlier post, the one with the link to make pickled okra and leads to other recipes. I love pickles and crispness and I think that's my answer. I'd love to try the fried okra recipe, but so far fried foods aren't good on my gut, but I'd be on that like white...
  12. Love the responses! I have used it for gumbos, thanks for the links. I've searched for recipes too, and have mixed it with sauteed onions, tomato over rice, I was just wondering why I am craving that vegetable but can't seem to find a palatable way to prepare it.
  13. Does anyone have good recipes for Okra? It's funny, I buy this veggie every now and then when it looks perfect. But I haven't found a recipe that I love it in yet. Had to ask the experts...
  14. We had grilled skinless chicken thighs and brown rice spiral pasta with black olive garlic basil parsley pesto sauce. I counted the herbs as a veggie, bad me. It was good!
  15. Oh yea...your in Florida,right?

We don't have frog problems here, maybe in Sacramento(tree frogs).I live near Hollywood..we have coyotes,posums,skunks..and the ocassional cougar the ocasional cougar!they've been having bears in N. Glendale and Lacresenta!

He was on the news, found in a garage eating Cosco meat balls!LOL they nicknamed him MEATBALL!

  16. Back to the original post, I met a fellow celiac disease in the gluten-free aisle of a Health Food Store recently. She was Italian and in her 60's. She told me when her doctor told her she couldn't have wheat anymore, she flipped out. She and her husband owned an Italian restaurant. She asked the Dr. what in the heck she was going to eat. Both...
  17. I's thinking the backdrop photo was shot on a breezy day.
  18. I've followed the thread and still don't have a clue, even though Riceguy provided hints. Maybe it's one of the Unsolved Mysteries. It it what it is, perhaps.
  19. Prickly, I'm frying my brain trying to remember if I told you about Chebes or not. It's really good, has flex (that's really important, you don't want cardboard crust. I have to do it again, plug Against the Grain Pizza. I swear I don't work for them,, I work another field (medical). I'm pretty stinking sensitive and I've never gotten "hit" from Against...

I welcome you to, Katie! Forum members/moderators are going to start wondering if I'm working for Against The Grain. Their bagels and pizza are so good! It may just be my older oven, but I bake the pizza for about 5 minutes longer than it says to, and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything when I...
  21. Hey marilyn...Hows things...?

    my keyboards been sticking...driving mecrazy!

    dropme aline!LOL

  22. Here's a link to my favorite gluten-free dessert recipe for your pastry chef pop. Open Original Shared Link You can make that pie shell for lemon meringue too, or you can make shells for strawbeeries and whipped cream. Or then there's Pavlova. (Search it on the internet or on the forum.) Maybe you can sweet talk him. It's not all about giving up....
  23. My brother's a hunter/fisher and lives in Michigan. We're going to meet in September in NC. I told him how expensive duck and geese are here. I know he'll bring me frozen blue gill, trout and perch, maybe some Walleye Pike, definitely venison, and maybe he'll take the hint and get some duck and goose. Pheasant became nearly extinct in Michigan from over...
  24. Duck soup! I made it from the giblet stock while I was making stock from last night's duck carcass. (You have to let the fat rise in the refrigerator overnight.) It was sublime. DP said it was the best soup I've ever made, and I'm sort of a soup freak. I went to the grocery store I bought the duck at today because I figured they'd only have duck for...
  25. My guess is that they have him on medications to treat his symptoms. I don't have DH but I was prescribed Lyrica by two specialists, rheumatalogist and neurolgist. It took me quite a while to actually try the stuff. It blocks your body's natural response. In my case, I found it blocked everything, and made me pass gas. I told my sister about it, she...
