The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Marilyn R replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was sick of you know what, had it for lunch with the homemade cranberry sauce I made and forgot to serve yesterday. We had breakfast for dinner. Fried taters, eggs and venison chili. -

Depending on who said that, I'd feel a real need to respond "Yea, you're right, just like a little sexually transmitted disease won't hurt you." -
ARCHIVED 1St Holiday Season After Dx - How Did You Feel/do/cope?
Marilyn R replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, my link didn't paste. Go to Forum Topic Dealing with Celiac. It's the first post. There are other links in that post. Hope that helps. And by the way, I'll be toting my own food for the holidays this year. -
ARCHIVED 1St Holiday Season After Dx - How Did You Feel/do/cope?
Marilyn R replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The first time I went to a family holiday, I brought my own food, along with a dish to share. The 2nd and 3rd times, I ate food I thought would be safe because everyone was pretty tuned into the program. I was horridly sick for a week after the 2nd and 3rd holiday family events. I thought my family would be appalled by my bringing my own food, but... -

My favorites have always been "You can eat THAT?" And "I may have a fat a---, but at least it looks like I can afford to eat!" Gotta luv the idiots out walking around and commenting/questioning. It adds the spice to life. -
ARCHIVED Christmas Party Time
Marilyn R replied to come dance with me's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Nuts maybe? I usually don't take nuts to parties because people tend to scoop them up with their possibly contaminated hands, and they're expensive. Have you checked out any Indian vegetarian recipes on line? I have a casserole dish that came with a hot/cold pack that keeps hot food hot and cold food cold. It came with a quilted carrier too... purchased... -

Medscape had a good article about supplements this month. You have to join the forum to read it though. Half of the interesting bits are in the comments section. -
ARCHIVED New To gluten-free And Anxious About Going Out
Marilyn R replied to MChase's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nuts pack some protein and fat, I try to have a snack bag or 2 of those in my purse. Nuts on line has gluten-free nuts and are excellent. Cashews are especially filling. Just remember that if you were Kosher (for the wedding) the caterer would make accommodations for you. You can request a separate gluten-free vegetable plate separate from the buffet...- 11 replies

ARCHIVED Recipes Needed Please...
Marilyn R replied to GF Lover's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sorry gluten-free Lover! Loved your animation though. I googled gluten-free green bean casserole and saw one where you fry sliced onions in corn starch, cook the beans, make a gluten-free white sauce with chopped mushrooms...I should have linked it, but I'm sure you need a project to keep your mind off the panko. xxx -
IMO, you don't need to eliminate any of the foods you mentioned unless you start having a return of symptoms or new symptoms. Quite a few members had to stop eating some of those food groups for awhile after going gluten-free & becoming symptomatic again. Time line for reintroducing them varies, everybody is different. 3 - 6 months...try to reintroduce...

When I die, I surely hope it will be from Chocolate, duck fat, or spices, possibly Vodka, cheese or ice cream. Could be a good Obituary about death by bad panko crumbs though. -

Oh man, I've been makin' bad panko crumbs for awhile now. I just take a hunk of year old gluten-free French bread out of the freezer and stick it in my mini food processor, watch it closely, and when I have big crumbs, consider it panko. If I don't catch it in time, I substitute bread crumbs. -

Had a need for Junk Food. Prepared Cincinnati Style frozen ( S K Y L I N E) chili from Publix over corn pasta with an obscene amount of chopped onions and melted cheese. Just what the junk food dr. ordered. -
At end of the day, your time spent with your sweetheart was way more important than your sewing class IMHO. There's always next week...

I made Thai Chicken soup today, very spicy. It was total yum.. Snuck in a lot of veggies that the Irish sidekick wouldn't normally eat, like bok choy and peppers, peas besides the normal veggies. Had it with Wally World rice. -

Yes, I misspelled it. Garam Masala. It wasn't in my MIL's original recipe, but I love the additional flavors. It typically is a spice mixture including coriander, cardamon, pepper, cinnamon, caraway, cloves, ginger, nutmeg and a couple of other herbs. I get mine online at The s p I c e house. Yummy yummy! -

We call it corn puddin' down here. 6 ears of starchy corn 1/2 cup half & half or heavy cream s&p to taste graham masala (optional, to taste) 1-2 T butter pinch of sugar 1/4 - 1/2 cup water Cut the corn kernels 1/2 way through into a bowl or 9x13" pan. Turn the cob upside down and scrape the remainders of the corn into the bowl or pan... -

It is uncomfortable at first, and that's exactly when you need to really be on top of your food game, because you're trying to heal. Here's a couple of thing's I've done for dinner parties, probably from advice on the forum. You can ask if you can bring a salad. Package your own portion separately, toss it on a plate and eat while everybody is eating... -

A very picky co-worker (and good cook) told me the ready made gluten-free pie crusts at Whole Foods are really good. I don't know the brand, but she told me about them several times. That would be my recipe, I fail at baking gluten-free too!!! Pretty much gave up on it. -

Hope you feel better soon. I'm with Irish, It seems like half of the reviewers are just the fad dieters. I learned that the hard way with a supposed gluten-free wrap at a local restaurant. My temporary reprieve from glutening is Epson salts bath with baking soda and peppermint oil. Soakarooni. ((( )))- 11 replies

We had chicken wraps with avocado, ranch dressing, romaine, water cress, onion and cheese with sides of potatoes roasted in rendered duck fat and steamed sugar snap peas. Never got around to dessert . Beloved dumb dog that is faster than a speeding bullet ran away. (She's back.) Lucky me. -
ARCHIVED Hair Loss/thinning
Marilyn R replied to ItchyAbby's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
How are your fingernails and toenails? My theory is it takes awhile for your body to replenish itself. My fingernails used to be paper thin, now they're strong. It took longer for my hair to start recovering, but I have Lupus too, and hair loss is typical with Lupus. I don't think the NP gave you an adequate answer. In fact, I'd have to say she gave...
