  1. I wonder what he did with all the grease. Thanks for sharing.
  2. I bucked up and grocery shopped today. It can't be blamed on him. He had spaggeti out of a can until he went to college, and doesn't know the difference between an avacado and an artichoke. The rest of his life he survived on BBQ, I blame it on his evil mother. She never included him in cooking and hated cooking, always went for the quick way out...
  3. C'mon down. Whoop up on him! Give him a little lesson in Gluten anger. There's a gluten-free Expo in S. Florida in Feb... 2/17/13, c'mon down. We'll have a whoop up, then go to the festival.
  4. They say all distrilled liquour is gluten-free because of the triple distillation process. I personally really like Luksusowa vodka. It's made from potatoes and has won some impressive taste awards. Look for the red label and confusing name.
  5. ( He's the roommate formerly known as boyfriend, significant other for 12 years. Aak! Common law...Aak! Last night I told him he is just "other" now. Today he told me I can just call him SUD for Suck Up Danny. Here's the part that makes me realize that he'll never, ever get it. He explained that since he knows I can have hamburger, he...
  6. He just admitted that he cooked the salmon on our dedicated gluten-free gas grill. (I had eggs.) Come on down girl's it's time to put a whuppin' on him. Bring on the pirates. (He swore he'd scrub it tomorrow ...) All I asked was if he could pick up some fish. We live in Florida! In case anybody's wondering, he is, so far, unscathed, living...
  7. I think you should pat yourself on the back for not getting really mean. Too true! I think you deserve a medal for not bludgeoning him.
  8. i'm sort of bummed at my roommate. He came home with salmon cakes and salmon loaf that were clearly identified as containing gluten. I'm feeling sanctimonious that I didn't Mace him or something. Gosh, I better go shopping tomorrow. Waa.
  9. You're not meek, Sparrow. You're searching and discovering. If you survived the in-laws visit, you can survive anything with aplumb! My guess is that the next thing you need to learn is to say "No." As in, "No thank you, I'd really like staying home for the holidays." Haven't you really always wanted to do that anyway? You can practice...
  10. Fire extinguisher or spare $6 toaster, inquiring minds want to know. xxx Happy New Year!
  11. Snort! Luv ya 'shroom! Happy New Year! (Sorry, off topic.)
  12. My dear mother lived until 87 years old with diagnosed celiac disease. My suggestion is to be compliant and enjoy life to it's fullest.
  13. Red is always best IMHO. I prefered my indoor grill for heating up gluten-free bread or biscuits when I wasn't hovering over the toaster.
  14. Aak! Sounds like you are reliving my life, but you're younger. Tell your dr. you want a celiac panel blood test. If he doesn't know what that is, tell him to write it in, any lab will know. Good luck, wish you good health!
  15. I usually rinse whole meat or fish with water or vinegar. It probably isn't necessary. Ground beef, pork, chicken and lamb have all been fine from Publix without being rinsed.
  16. Just a friendly FYI, it pays to stand by and watch it you use the toaster and parchment paper combo. My toaster started on fire the 2nd or 3rd time I used the (homemade) sleeves. I bought a new toaster for around $6.00, it works like a charm and has for 2 years. Really glad I wasn't in the shower...
  17. Hi, I shop at Publix regularly and don't purchase their pricy "Greenwise" meat products. I agree with Peter, and just so you know, he always gives good advice. I remember being frustrated when I printed off their gluten-free list a few years ago. They listed every tooth floss in the store. It get's better.
  18. I am an appliance maniac, and love my indoor (gluten-free style) girll for food emergencies. One of my favorites is to thinly slice scubbed (unpeeled) white potatoes, toss them on the pre-heated grill for 4 minutes, flip them, then stick a piece of fish or a sliced hot dog on top, and grill for another 3-4 minutes. I also like to make gluten-free mac...
  19. Thanks for letting me know, CeliacMom. Your son's response should be quoted often. I love it! If you happen to explore the other threads on the forum, I hope you'll remind people of your son's wisdom. And yes, I hope he learned early about caving in to peer pressure, suspect he has. Happy holidays, all the best.
  20. Hi Jcossentino, and welcome to the forum!2 You may be surprised at how many of your favorite foods can be adapted to gluten-free with a little tweak or 2-3. It may take several weeks to get relief of your symptoms, but way to go on figuring out what's going on with your body. I agree with Frieze's recommendations, and wish you and your family well...
  21. If her school allows peanut recipes, consider trying this. Open Original Shared Link Or you could make meringue cookies dipped in chocolate. Hope you both enjoy the holiday party!
  22. I understand your angst about trying to alleviate dairy from your diet. Been there, done that, thankfully my gut recovered. I tried to love coconut milk. It's like comparing silk to polyester, but it can get you through the rough months IMHO.
  23. He sounds like such a great guy! I think you should pat yourself on the back for raising him so well! I loved all the other great posts, just wanted to say how impressed I am that your 13 year old responded better than most adults would have. Yay for you and Yay for him! He passed a milestone without you there supervising.
  24. And LOL, I have that same stoneware you're serving the sushi on!
  25. YUM! Thanks for sharing!
