  1. We are there March 30th until April 3rd (I think) If I have anymore questions I'll let you know. THX
  2. Everyone, thank you. I can handle a 6 week wait. I just want it to get better eventually. I know with gluten it took months for everything to start easing up so I don't know why I'm surprised. And thanks for the nightshade list. I knew every one but okra...but that's not a big risk up here in the north. Plus I don't care for it. So...I'll stay the...
  3. Michelle, Thank you for that lovely response. I'll make sure when I'm making food reservations I have our numerous "allergies" listed. And BABYCAKES. That's so great. I just read through her cook book a couple of days ago. My mouth has been watering ever since!
  4. We're going in a couple of weeks. I posted this question on the main/coping board. Apparently in the Magic Kingdom you can get a list of places that are gluten free at the Court House. And someone else posted that they were so accommodating to food allergies that no prior arrangements are needed. I'd love it if more people with kids who have experience...
  5. I don't think I'm adding anything new here. My daughter also doesn't have dairy or corn so this is what's worked for us: Home made muffins soups/pesto/stews in thermos PBJ on Ud's bread Sliced apples/grapes/fruit carrots/celery mandarin oranges not in corn syrup apple sauce bunny snacks fruit leather home made smoothies in a "coffee" mug...
  6. That must be so stressful! My daughter is almost 8, and I just changed her diet this past October. She never in her life had regular BMs. But she really started going downhill this past summer. Constant diarrhea, stomach pain all the time, sick every other week...and by sick I mean: Strep, high fevers that lasted days, INFLUENZA, sore throats all...
  7. A big perk of going gluten and dairy free is that my arthritis really eased up. Especially a joint in my neck that was causing me chronic pain for years. However, it's a year later and I still have enough joint pain to interfere with my lifestyle, especially in my knees. So, I'm finally at a breaking point and I'm just now becoming very very strict about...
  8. That zombie feeling was how I felt for years. Going gluten free helped a lot. But I still am trying to figure my whole diet picture out. I have days I have a ton of energy and days I just crash. I don't know if this is just part of the normal healing process or if something else is going on. Anyway, if I was needing drugs to feel normal, I'd take that...
  9. People's responses can be annoying. Especially when it comes from family members. It sounds to me like you're going with or without your husband's approval/support. That's what I'd do. You're the one who has to suffer the consequences from your food consumption. I'd love it if you'd post what you learned after your appt.
  10. Oh man, I realize how this is going to come across but here I go anyway. I think you should be getting energy from the foods you eat. Another thing that really helped me was upping my vitamin D and B. I live in the great white north and this winter was crushing me. My yoga instructor (I know I know how I'm coming across here) recommended taking more...
  11. Well, of course it's all gluteny stuff. :-) I taught myself. I think you can do it too. In the meantime, good luck with your folks. I know how your mom feels. Shopping and meal planning is the least favorite part of my job. But, she needs to make sure your getting the right foods. Safe journey, Courtney.
  12. At this point, about a year in, I really don't miss the foods. But I agree. THE CONVENIENCE. Oy.
  13. Oh duh. I missed the signature. Sorry about that. In that case I'm of the opinion that if there is a minor child with diagnosed Celiac in the house, the house should be gluten free. And the parents should be presenting healthy, safe meals. I still think learning to cook is going to make things much easier for you as you try and navigate all this when...
  14. I know a lot of people here can relate. I hope you continue to feel better and better
  15. I would hope if you have a diagnosis that your parents would step up to the plate. I'm not doubting at all that you feel better gluten free, but I'm curious as to what started your journey. I went gluten free a year ago, and even though I was in my 40's I was not a very good cook. And the things I could make were...well, cakes, pizza, spaghetti (still...
  16. What the what? I really don't have much faith in doctors when it comes to Gluten Intolerance/Celiac disease...whatever you want to call it. I took my daughter off gluten/dairy and corn 6 weeks before her scheduled appointment with her pediatrician because neither of us could take one more day of her being so sick. So when he wanted to do the celiac test...
  17. I've had this same experience! Pleurisy for years.
  18. My daughter does not have autism, but we've noticed a lot of positive behavior changes with the diet.
  19. Oh...and sometimes we have "McDonald days" This is a day that life is getting rough and we wish we could just go through the drive through and pig out. So instead we might watch extra t.v. on a school night, or buy a toy, clothes or something small. Goofy, but it makes us both feel better.
  20. It's funny. I always have dreams that I'm eating forbidden food. And then in the dream I always get to a point where I panic because I realize what I've eaten and that I"m going to get sick. In some respects getting my daughter to switch has been easy for HER because she felt so awful before. I honestly don't know how long that poor child lived with a...
  21. Even if you test negative for celiac, you know you feel better eating gluten free. Remember to listen to your body. I'm very curious to see what will happen over the next decade as people begin to study what it means to be gluten intolerant, not just test positive for celiac. My mom, myself and my 7 year old have all tested negative for celiac (we had...
  22. I'm just so happy I found a place where other people who also couldn't get a diagnosis from a doctor understand what I'm going through. And most people have been supportive. It scares me to think how much my daughter would have to have deteriorated before she would actually be diagnosed by a doctor. Our pediatrician has been very supportive, but also told...
  23. Bridget, that is great advice. I'm obviously WAY out of school, but I worry so much about my gluten-free daughter. I'll make sure we follow that advice when she's hitting high school. We should be following it all the time, but with kids it's hard.
  24. I've got it right now so I'm having trouble remembering what I should do. :-) Seriously, all I do is tons of water, sleep, no processed food and time.
  25. Thank you for writing this. I read the post about people who self diagnose and it's bugged me all day. I always sort of wonder if people with an "official" diagnosis feel like it's more real for them than those of us who had to self diagnose. My mother, myself and my daughter have all tried to figure out what was wrong with us only to be told all the tests...
