				ARCHIVED Is Benadryl Safe?
srall posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm asking this question here rather than the children's forum because it gets more traffic. My daughter is having a bad reaction to corn syrup and has hives all over her body (won't even go into the crazy behavior...I'm sure most of us can relate) She is gluten free...can I give her (children's) benadryl? My gluten free app doesn't have drugs listed -

ARCHIVED Taking Longer To Get Over Virus's
srall replied to roonietoonie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter has been gluten free about 5 weeks. She's responded well to the diet, and has tested negative for Celiac. She has been sick more days than she's been well since last summer. I am hoping this changes with her new diet. I've been gluten free since March and haven't even really had a cold since then. I think my child's doctor definitely think... -

ARCHIVED What's Your Opinion About Reintroducing Gluten?
srall posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter's blood test for Celiac came back negative. She had not been eating gluten for about 5 weeks but the pediatrician thought that antibodies would still show up. Well, having been down that road myself I wasn't surprised the results were negative. Anyhow, in talking to the doctor last night he agreed that she had a positive dietary response to... -

ARCHIVED 5 Days Into Diet And Sort Of Feeling Better!
srall replied to TPT's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yup. My normal before was operating at about 65% good health. Now my normal is 100% if I'm really being good about my diet. I don't eat wheat/dairy/corn and mostly soy, but a lot of grains and processed foods slip into my diet, esp this busy time of year and I don't feel as energetic. But when my diet is pure I feel amazing all the time. You will just... -

				ARCHIVED Vitamin Supplements For Kids
srall replied to srall's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are doing a probiotic but I don't know about omega supplements? I put flax seed oil in smoothies. Does that count? The poop tests are to rule out parasites. Doc doesn't think that's causing the D but wants to rule it out. I can't remember what he said about the endoscopy. He was only going to do it if the blood test was positive? I don't understand... -

				ARCHIVED Vitamin Supplements For Kids
srall replied to srall's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks Mizzo. I should have written that her belly pain is so improved and that's why the pediatrician was ready to call her gluten intolerant. It's just the other symptoms. I also am GI and have been gluten free for several months, so I know it's a long process. It's just a heartbreaking one when it comes to a child. -

				ARCHIVED Vitamin Supplements For Kids
srall posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 7 year old is just now going through testing for Celiac as well as a host of other things. I'm pretty sure she's gluten and dairy (and) intolerant though, because she has responded to a gluten/dairy/corn free diet. For now we (pediatrician and myself) are calling her gluten intolerant while she is undergoing the other tests, which right now only involve... -

ARCHIVED Son Looks Like Stepped Out Of Concentration Camp - Help!
srall replied to celiackidmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 7 year old is in the process of being tested right now. I love her pediatrician as he is being very supportive and has at this point marked her as "gluten intolerant" in her chart. I'm still with you as far as a kid who looks so skinny and sickly it almost breaks my heart to see her with other kids her age who are so robust and healthy. We've cut... -

ARCHIVED Do You Have Friends Who Do Gluten-Free But Not Seriously?
srall replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think some people do react well to a low gluten diet. My husband is gluten free at home but of course he still eats burgers and such for lunch when he's working. He's admitted that he feels better, and has lost weight and is not as gassy as before we took the house gluten free. So even though he's still getting it somewhere, he feels better for cutting... -

ARCHIVED Why Won't They Take Me Seriously?!
srall replied to AJoy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yup. Unfortunately this is the best way to be safe. I think people just forget or don't understand. Too much has hidden gluten, and I figure if I'm having to stop and look up foods constantly to see if they are gluten free, it's probably too much to expect someone else to do it. -
I'm sorry for your loss. If you can't eat ahead of time or pack your own food, I hope you are able to order something safe. I have found that I've become very good at just being hungry when it's not safe for me to eat. I've said to my husband, hunger is so much better than risking being sick. I always have cashews in my purse. I'd probably do some cut...

ARCHIVED Can You Have Celiac With Negative Blood Test, But Good Results On Diet?
srall replied to Ox on the Roof's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I think you got your answer. I was just going to say "Yes" To me your sickness during pregnancy is a sign of celiac too. I have been amazed that so many women on this board who were not diagnosed during a pregnancy were sick the entire time like me. I went gluten free last March, and in May took a blood test which was negative. Too me it didn't... -

ARCHIVED My Family Just Doesn't Get It
srall replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with the posters who have said make sure you feed yourself before you get somewhere. May I speak from the other side? My mother is gluten free and diabetic. My daughter age 7 is gluten free/dairy free as well as myself. My dad and my husband are the long suffering spouses. So this Thanksgiving my challenge was to prepare a variety of gluten free... -

				ARCHIVED I Noticed Something Odd
srall replied to polarbearscooby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had rosacea clear up when I went gluten free, but that may have been because I also dropped dairy, and greatly reduced the processed foods and sugar I was eating. I still get a pimple here and there but i haven't tied it to gluten. Right before I went gluten free for good I got the DH rash and I still have scars from that, but they could not possibly... -

Karen, I think you've suggested that to me in another post. I'm sure that's the best way to handle this. My husband and I went out to dinner and had a really fun evening out...but the safest bet is to just stay with her. I guess I should buck up and face that fact. I probably will confront the parents but I don't want to come across as hostile. They...

Maybe this post belongs in the parents of kids section, but it's really more about dealing with the fallout of eating foods we're intolerant to. My daughter, age 7, who is gluten and dairy free, (and probably should be corn free) went to a birthday party last night. As usual I sent her with a packed dinner and a gluten free muffin. I should mention that...

				ARCHIVED Severe Constipation
srall replied to gemstar8069's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter is not diagnosed but I have her on a gluten free/dairy free diet. We are both still on a big health journey. I think after Thanksgiving we will both be going through some diagnostic testing to really figure out what we are reacting to. That said, I will tell you that my daughter age 7 has dealt with severe constipation and severe diarrhea from... -
I cannot say for certain, but my opinion is that my unexplained secondary infertility was because of my gluten intolerance.

ARCHIVED How Much Do You Spend On Groceries?
srall replied to snifter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My daughter and I are gluten free, my husband pretty much only eats tortillas in the house...other than that we're pretty gluten free. I pick up things here and there too, am almost entirely organic and I estimate that I spend $400 per month. But no more eating out which for us was a very costly expense. So health-wise and financially I think we're better... -

ARCHIVED I Hear Gluten Free Get Grouped With Things Like Vegetarianism
srall replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get the..."Oh, well the co-op sells organic wheat so you could try that." And then last night my gluten free daughter and I went out to dinner. There is a Latin restaurant that has a lot of "safe" things on the menu. So I spend time with the waiter talking about what we can and can't eat...no croutons on the salad. He was very prepared to discuss... -

ARCHIVED What Do You Pack In Their Lunch?
srall replied to shacon-bacon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm new to this with my daughter so I'm still trying to expand the menu (good suggestions btw) The best investment we made was a $13 Hello Kitty Thermos from Target. I send her with homemade minnestrone soup, spinach pesto pasta, even left over meat which doesn't really stay warm but she is willing to eat it cold. My daughter isn't a huge fan of the...
