ARCHIVED Got Glutened For The First Time
srall replied to Emilushka's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After I went gluten free, I started getting sick from corn. In fact, my reactions to corn and corn flour were almost worse than the gluten. I agree with above poster about bringing your own snacks. It's the safest way to go. -

ARCHIVED Shouldn't Have Taken Communion This Morn
srall replied to srall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was thinking that same solution. It's just another way this has impacted my life that I didn't really consider when I first stopped the gluten. -

ARCHIVED Shouldn't Have Taken Communion This Morn
srall posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've actually looked up old posts on this site to see how others deal with this issue. I'm still trying to decide. I'm Lutheran and the way our church does it is to dip a wafer in wine. So even if I provide gluten free wafers, there is still the cc issue with the wine. Not really sure how I'm going to handle it. I do know that my body can't take the... -

I never had peaches and cream skin as a teenager, but as an adult my skin has been pretty clear. I drank a lot of milk before going gluten free. I have been dairy free because I realized it was also making me very sick as it was affecting my lower GI and my joints. However, I have had a lot of friends give up all dairy to clear up their skin. I have...

I'm self diagnosed. I just went off gluten and it was life changing. Don't need a formal diagnosis. Or I should say I can't bear the thought it reintroducing gluten for a test that may or may not be conclusive. The real test is how you feel off of gluten (IMO). Some people need the medical diagnosis. I did not because no matter what my doctor told...

I felt better after two weeks. Some people here say 6 months. You will continue to improve though. I think the gluten detox is sometimes worse than your "life before." I've been doing this 7 months and even this past Wednesday I woke up and just wanted to go back to bed. I was achy and sore. I took my daughter to school and came home and slept until...

I'm on my 7th month. Your symptoms sound similar to mine...just add in some chronic joint pain and I'm there. I did have major gluten withdrawal for a couple of weeks. Felt great for awhile then started crashing again. That was other food intolerances rearing their ugly heads, plus probably becoming more sensitive to cc and hidden gluten. I'm still trying...

ARCHIVED Other Food Intolerances Get Me Down
srall replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so new to this. The one thing I really miss about dairy (as well as wheat) is just it would be nice to have a convenient snack that was very filling. As opposed to a piece of fruit or veggies. I can't do soy or dairy right now and would be happy to get one of those back. I've read lots of posts by people who can reintroduce dairy, but has anyone... -

ARCHIVED When Gluten Free Is Not Enough
srall replied to ksymonds84's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I did a lot of research on FM when I was first figuring this whole puzzle out. Because it seems it's rarely just gluten making us sick. I haven't really followed a diet for FM but I definitely watch the fructose intake. It makes a huge difference. Weirdly, I cannot eat rasberries without almost a "gluten" response, and they are supposed to be relatively... -

ARCHIVED These Articles Are So Funny!
srall replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So true. For years my friends were so jealous that I could seemingly eat whatever I wanted and never gain any weight. Well...I guess now we know when you are not absorbing any nutrients, you probably will stay underweight, even into your 40's. And I agree with your first point too. My life is infinitely easier now that I am not struggling through every... -

ARCHIVED These Articles Are So Funny!
srall replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My friend just send me a different online article about dropping gluten and all grains from your diet. The article was interesting and was basically promoting the Paleolithic Diet. And then I read through the responses. Idiots. All I can say is I guess it's sort of like religion. You figure out your journey and your path to health, whether it be spiritual... -

ARCHIVED Wish I Had A Diagnosis!
srall replied to vegan lisa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I actually discovered I was intolerant to gluten and dairy while on a vegan diet, in which I also dropped wheat. I was feeling so awesome about not eating meat and a kinder gentler approach to our planet, but I found that as I had to drop wheat, dairy and then soy and corn from my diet, I was actually crashing more on the "veganiac" diet (vegan + gluten... -

ARCHIVED Joint Pain With Many Other Symptoms
srall replied to tbritt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First off I've been gluten free since March/April of this year. You know, I had so much weirdness going on during my detox that it might have been months before I realized that "Hey, my neck hasn't bothered me in awhile." I have to be honest here though, I still have joint pain. I don't know if it's my body healing or if some gluten is sneaking in. ... -

ARCHIVED Any Tricks To Ward Off That Brain-Fog?
srall replied to bridgetm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Can you explain what sublingual B12 is and where to buy it? I'm almost out of my B12 supplements and I've seen that come up a lot on this board. I'd like to try it. -

ARCHIVED Joint Pain With Many Other Symptoms
srall replied to tbritt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had chronic neck and shoulder pain that finally went away when I went gluten free. I always thought it was a muscle that was knotted up but now I realize it was arthritis/joint pain. I'm also self diagnosed, and the thought of getting a formal diagnosis sends me into a panic. My SIL is an allergist and she's very insistent that I get a formal diagnosis... -

ARCHIVED Any Tricks To Ward Off That Brain-Fog?
srall replied to bridgetm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh I wish I knew. Last night I was at a meeting and was in a complete fog. I was actually praying that I was getting sick instead of accidentally glutened. I was relieved that my throat was sore in addition to sore muscles and headache because I was thinking "Oh thank God...I'm just sick not glutened." I couldn't believe that was my thought process.... -

				ARCHIVED Anxiety, Depression, And Friends
srall replied to curiousgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think my immediate family got the worst of it. I was getting so scared for my little daughter just because I'd fly into rages. I didn't know what was going on and thought I was going through early menopause. My doctor wanted to put me on Xanax but I was so against that she told me I'd have to exercise an hour a day. I still do that. Everything's managed... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Is So Humiliating Sometimes
srall replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That was pretty rude I have to say. I just had that happen with my daughter a few months ago. I had eaten something evil (although I don't think it was gluten...might have been corn). Anyhow, my husband had to come home early from work because I was in so much pain. My daughter came into the bathroom (because she has yet to learn boundaries where I"m... -

ARCHIVED My First 3 Weeks And Questions
srall replied to GypsyGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been gluten free since the end of March 2010. I am self diagnosed, so I really don't know the level of my sensitivity. So far I don't have separate pans or utensils, although I'm pretty careful, and I've been okay so far. However I know there are lots of folks here who could have a very bad reaction trace amounts of gluten. I just don't know yet... -

ARCHIVED My First 3 Weeks And Questions
srall replied to GypsyGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had terrible sinus problems too and my sinuses were completely closed up (had to breathe through mouth) when I was detoxing. I have the same problem with a husband and daughter who still eat gluten. I am getting pretty good about being careful (so far). The biggest mistake I made this month was in true harried mom fashion I tried to make my daughter... -
Way better news than being glutened!

When I went off gluten, I also went off dairy. I kept testing gluten because it was so hard to eliminate gluten, so I knew beyond a doubt I had a reaction to that. But I never did test dairy because I was feeling so much better and why mess with it. Why mess with it indeed. Decided to get a latte after church today. Now I feel completely drunk, my...
