ARCHIVED Yellow Stool...after Going Gluten Free?
Emilushka replied to tweeks2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am really sorry you've had all this trouble and the docs haven't been helpful. It always breaks my heart a little when that happens - I'm a med student (soon-to-be-doctor myself) and I feel really bad when the system fails a patient like it has for you. Maybe ask for a GI referral? They should know more about your poop than the idiots you've seen so... -
ARCHIVED Yellow Stool...after Going Gluten Free?
Emilushka replied to tweeks2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The yellow is likely bile that has been processed by your normal bacteria in your intestine (although with malabsorption issues, you may have extra bacteria right now because they're eating all your food). It's more normal for your poop to be brownish than yellowish, but the yellow pigment could just be a result of the bacteria. What about any other food... -
ARCHIVED Dining As A Gluten Free Guest
Emilushka replied to Rowena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As a followup, let's say a friend offers to make gluten-free food in a single serving (or enough sides that you will have food to eat). Should you trust them or worry about cross-contamination in their gluten-filled kitchen? -
ARCHIVED Help Me Whittle This Down
Emilushka replied to mk1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It actually takes quite a bit of effort to get a B12 deficiency. You can get it if you have malabsorption for years, if your stomach is malfunctioning for years, or if you aren't eating any animal products at all (vegan diet). So with undiagnosed or untreated Celiac you could totally have a B12 deficiency, but you'd need to have had significant problems for... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins And Mineral Suppliments
Emilushka replied to bincongo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That sounds totally reasonable. Just make sure you double-check with your doc in 4 months about the iron. It is possible to have too much iron. -
ARCHIVED Vitamins And Mineral Suppliments
Emilushka replied to bincongo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Given that you're still recovering from the Celiac itself, your doc may be trying to avoid making you take a bunch of pills because some of this will heal itself on its own. Maybe she's waiting to see where things are in 4 months before making any judgments about what you're actually lacking for real and what's just a consequence of Celiac (which will go... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed Last Night
Emilushka replied to AWebb85's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi! I'm also a relatively new member of the group. I got my results back on 9/10, and I've been gluten-free ever since. Almost a whole month. My fiance eats gluten still. My strategy has been to separate our food out in the kitchen so that his food will not get crumbs on my food and I will have my own areas to maintain and stock. This means that I can... -
ARCHIVED Redbridge Beer
Emilushka replied to BcG3987's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah ... I mostly gave up on beer and drink wine, which I luckily also like. Bard's is a little expensive for me, and Yinpu is cheap but tastes a little odd. -
ARCHIVED Vitamins And Mineral Suppliments
Emilushka replied to bincongo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm also a recent diagnosis. My doc told me to just take a multivitamin with an additional 400 mcg of folic acid and a couple Tums for calcium (I also have a calcium supplement with Vitamin D included). I'm actually doubling the folic acid (with the doc's approval) in case of accidental pregnancy. For you, it really sounds like the worst part right now... -
ARCHIVED Need Help Interpreting Test Results.
Emilushka replied to mom26boys's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You have some really great questions. I'm a medical student, almost a doctor, and I have Celiac. However, you asked such great questions that although I will do my best to help answer, I'm not sure I can answer them all appropriately. I'm hoping the other group members will be able to jump in and correct me and supplement with more information. Question... -
ARCHIVED Redbridge Beer
Emilushka replied to BcG3987's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I really prefer Bard's to Redbridge. I really love the dark beers, though. The tasty, bitter ones. :-) -

Thanks for the share! -
I met with the GI specialist yesterday for the first time. The whole thing was a really great experience. I just wanted to post about it because there are so many negative experiences that you guys have talked about, but few positive. I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago. I've been gluten-free since then, and for the past week I've been dairy-free as well (and...

Awww ... I haven't even tried my Annie's soups since going gluten-free. I'll double-check all my cans and make sure they don't have the "same equipment" label.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Beer In Charlotte Nc
Emilushka replied to michaelkl1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I really like the Bard's. There's also a rice beer called Yinpu that tastes a little like sushi rice. -
Wow! Go, you!

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed And A Wedding This Weekend
Emilushka replied to bonnie blue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had a friend tell me to stop whining yesterday when I was worried about eating in a restaurant. He said that he was saying it "with love". He thinks he understands because he's a vegetarian. -
After doing some research in here about what Thai food is usually safe, I went with a couple friends to a local Thai restaurant (family-owned business, not a chain). I explained to the waitress about my "food allergy" and she carefully wrote down everything I said, reassured me that they get lots of food allergies and it wouldn't be a problem, and then made...

ARCHIVED How Do *you* Deal With The Pain/discomfort Of Your Reactions?
Emilushka replied to misskate's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sometimes Tums help me. Sometimes they don't, though. The panic symptoms are helped by my lorazepam (Ativan - a prescription anti-anxiety med that helps with nausea a bit, too). Mostly for me it's just time. Whatever your symptoms are, try to find a way to treat them specifically. Talk to your doc, maybe? I would complain to his manager. It's one... -
ARCHIVED I'm Self Diagnosing Again But
Emilushka replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Usually with an alcoholic person, the AST will be elevated more than the ALT. Often the AST will be twice the ALT in an alcoholic. -
ARCHIVED Experience And Service At Outback Steakhouse
Emilushka replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's awesome to know. Thanks for the report! -
Thanks for clarifying, guys! I will start eating maltodextrin immediately. Or maybe after my next shopping trip. :-)
-
My personal understanding is that it's bad. I don't do maltodextrin. But I'm a newbie too - I'm sure the more experienced members of the forum will have better educated answers than mine. Hang in there. I'm in the same stage as you are. I'm frustrated as hell, sometimes feeling better and sometimes feeling just as awful. I sit on the bathroom floor some...
