  1. That explains the weird, itchy spots I would get on one of my fingers that would come and go. I always assumed it was a tiny patch of eczema.
  2. Hmm, that sounded a little harsh and I didn't intend it to. But I really believe time and patience is what's going to heal you best.
  3. It can take weeks, months, sometimes over a year. The fact that you're seeing some improvement is good but you really have to give it time. My panic attacks abated after the first month. I still get anxiety but it's lessening slowly. I expect another several months before it's gone entirely.
  4. Good luck! But don't be nervous. The endoscopy is a cinch. The only bad part is the not eating.
  5. I think the obvious question is: have you seen a doctor about this?

    ARCHIVED Fosamax

In my mother's case, her doctor kept pushing and pushing for Fosamax. All the while, her exam room was festooned with Fosamax coffee mugs, notepads, pens, signs, and posters. Ugh.
  7. Celiac Disease isn't rare. About 1 in 100 people have it. Most of them just haven't been diagnosed. This is your anxiety talking. Stop worrying about what other people will think about you and concentrate on getting yourself healthy. You will be able to lead a normal life if you find you need to be gluten-free. It seems hard in the beginning but it gets...
  8. Ha. Yes. Especially since doctors kept implying (or telling me directly) that it was all in my head, depression, anxiety and/or stress.
  9. That sounds a lot like how I felt. But it definitely wasn't like flipping a switch when I went gluten-free. I don't have panic attacks but I do still get anxiety, I do still deal with depression. It just feels like it's very slowly oozing off of me. Have you gone gluten-free yet or are you just thinking about it?
  10. All but two of Pamela's baking mixes are soy free. She has allergy information on the website.
  11. Not all Celiacs have vitamin deficiencies. I was undiagnosed for quite some time and all my vitamin levels checked out as within normal range. And constipation was my number one symptom.
  12. I don't have any gluten-free friends either. The only other person in the world who cooks for me is my mom and she's meticulous bordering on OCD about it.
  13. Can you try the gluten-free diet with her to see if she improves? The lack of anemia isn't really conclusive to anything. Some Celiacs are anemic and/or vitamin deficient. Others aren't. My vitamin levels were fine and I was symptomatic for quite some time. It seems like you could either wait to get her into a specialist (sorry, I don't understand...
  14. Most Dunkin Donuts don't bake their own doughnuts. I'm not sure any of them actually do. They get deliveries every day.
  15. Same here. I drink homebrewed French Vanilla. But ever since I went gluten-free, if I drink more than one cup per day, my stomach goes nuts. Coffee can be harsh. If I stick to one cup, I'm fine. If I try a second, my stomach will start to cramp up. Of course, I brew my coffee weak
  16. I won't use Bare Minerals because of the bismuth oxychloride they put in it but I love Silk Naturals. The woman who owns the company, Karen, is meticulous about gluten. The few products that actually have gluten

    ARCHIVED Fosamax

My mom refused to take Fosamax for her osteopenia because of the side effects. She takes Vitamin D and eats veggies with calcium every day and has had improvements on her bone scans.
  18. Actually, it can be weight loss. I lost 20 pounds in my first month gluten-free and I wasn't exactly killing myself at the gym since I still felt pretty lousy.
  19. I miss Subway like crazy
  20. A great book about gluten, the history of gluten in the human diet, Celiac Disease, and non-Celiac gluten intolerance is "Healther Without Wheat" by Stephen Wangen. It's an excellent primer.
  21. No kidding. A pox on gluten's house.
  22. Damage to the villi can't be seen with the naked eye
  23. Does that mean I shouldn't use it?
  24. It's great that they got back to you but what a goofy email. Give the free cookies they send you the once over before you eat them.
