  1. cathzozo- Yes, as has been said here, just b/c your parents don't have celiac disease, doesn't mean you can't. My parents both have other autoimmune conditions (my mom has Hashi's), but neither had positive bloodwork or biopsies...so don't let it throw you.
  2. Here is link to full document, or summary below. (This was in Clan Thompson newsletter) Open Original Shared Link (Makes me think twice...) The FDA's report to Congress regarding cross-contact with food allergens during food manufacturing and distribution, and consumer preferences about advisory labeling is out. This report was required as part of...
  3. It can really take a while to start improving with the diet. You'll need to give it more time. You should have follow-up testing after 6 mos to ck your antibodies again and level enzymes. I'd guess that most likely, since you haven't been gluten-free for long, your enzymes will return to normal. However, keep up on these things even if your doctor doesn...
  4. You are a great friend Do you have these safe/forbidden ingredient lists to help for shopping? https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=12
  5. OMG! That thing is amazing--bless that woman !!
  6. Yikes...sorry to hear... Yeah, that is probably the situation I'm in too...
  7. This weight gain is pretty common--yes, your body is absorbing more nutrients, fat etc now as you are healing. I was also at a healthy weight pre-diagnosis, so gaining weight was not in my plan I did gain a bit, but have pretty much lost what I put on. Partly, I went a little too crazy with the gluten-free carbs in the beginning, trying everything. It...
  8. Thanks Marcia for the input. I wonder how much these numbers can change for individuals...ie. if mine could go back or up down again in the near future. Hmph. I'm glad she is doing alright...but sort-of doesn't sound quite good enough yet... Nancym- So you did have a follow-up... I haven't had that yet. I think I am going to take this to my...
  9. Some of my favorites are below: The gluten-free trading post Open Original Shared Link An entire store in WI where everything is gluten-free. Huge selection and they turn orders around pretty fast. Great way to try new yummies. The gluten-free pantry Open Original Shared Link Their own products and mixes are good (skillet meals are nice too) and...
  10. I haven't tried it yet, but I just bought some Nutiva hemp protein powder. See it here: Open Original Shared Link I ordered it from the gluten-free mall. There is no gluten or dairy in the powder.
  11. I use their canola oil and shortening... I the Spectrum products.
  12. High lever enzymes are very common with Celiacs and the vast majority of Celiacs with high enzyme levels find they return to normal after a period of time on the diet. However, what is your fever like? They may be a related issue, but if it is very high I would want to investigate it further.
  13. Hey friends...just got back some blood work and my ANA was positive. I had this tested a year ago and it was negative at this time. Results are: 1.80 with a speckled pattern detected. I know these tests are indicators and don't often tell you one way or another on disease. If you had a positive ANA what were your results and/or what did it mean? Have...
  14. Shar also makes a cracker like a saltine--one of the best gluten-free ones I've had. (I buy a lot of Shar products from the gluten-free pantry.)
  15. Another good bk to ck out is the queen of clean's. I use mostly natural products... vinegar too and scrub with mix of borax and baking soda. I have really liked 7th generation's laundry detergents, we use them. and I love Ecover's stain remover stick. Works great! I buy these through a co-op b/c they aren't cheap, but wild oats etc stores carries them...
  16. I used canola. Remember--don't ever use olive oil to season your wok--it gets nasty.
  17. I would go to a doctor and get it cked out. Other ideas: gastritis or ulcer. So you don't have any pain? What about any dizziness?
  18. Congrats and keep up the great work
  19. So glad Nicole--so glad !

  22. Ha ha--yeah...I mean saffron is pretty expensive, so shredding some cash would have the same effect You could sub tumeric for the saffron, or just leave it out altogether. Maybe try some basil or fresh parsley. Possibilities are endless Yikes--sorry to hear it turned out to be a bigger deal. I hope you aren't in too much pain and that you...
  23. My favorite way to prepare the grain is to simmer till fluffy in broth with spices. Then I make a spicy sauce with peppers, onion and garlic, put that on top of the quinoa and then sauteed shrimp on top This isn't exacty what I do, but a good recipe below: Good Basic Quinoa 4 med. yellow onions, chopped 1 large red pepper, chopped 3 garlic...
