ARCHIVED Gluten Free Product Placement
jenvan replied to Michi8's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get the issue of leaky flour bags, but sealed packages sitting next to each other does not bother me. One plus for having some items integrated is that it is less likely to isolate celiacs, make gluten-free products more of a normal part of *normal* shopping, and expose others to gluten-free products that may not be aware of them. -
Fruit bothers some people, and some folks are able to eat an apple w/o the skin.

External symptoms are not always an accurate indicator of internal distress or harm. Don't let this lead you to think you may not have an issue with gluten. Even some individuals with Celiac do not have symptoms. However, not knowing much of your history, its hard to say if you definitely have a gluten intolerance.

I also say, work in very small batches of the dough. Putting down some flour won't hurt either. -
ARCHIVED Bread Recipe That Resembles Wheat Bread
jenvan replied to Kibbie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I also second Anna's bread (gluten evolution). They have more of a soft real-bread texture. Some of the best, IMO. -
Hey Bernadette-glad I got on today and caught your post! I'm glad you started a thread of thankfulness. I too have a lot to be thankful for, even in the midst of struggles. Drop me a line sometime and hope your gluten-free Turkey day is very yummy

ARCHIVED Enjoy Life Cookies
jenvan replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They are pretty good for a grab-n-go. I think homemade are better, but eat their cookies alot. The new chocolate brownie fudgey ones (whatever they are called!) are good too! -

ARCHIVED Eosinophilic Esophagitis
jenvan replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My brother just got diagnosed with this last week. As Mayster said, it is thought that allergies are the cause. Allergy/intolerance testing would be a good option. Depending on how severe, esophageal dialations may be necessary. I've had them done in the past, they're pretty harmless, not painful. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Hi Colesteral
jenvan replied to maribeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Try to stick with lower fat, higher protein meals and meats. Also make sure you include higher fiber, more filling foods like beans. How long have you been on the diet? Your hunger may "adjust" and if you are relatively new to the diet def continue to watch your cholesterol, as it may continue to increase as your body absorbs more and more. -
ARCHIVED Amy's
jenvan replied to bonnieboo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah, you'll Have to make that choice yourself. Amy’s was going to move the pizza and I think the mac and cheese (?) to a gluten-free facility though. Not sure when that happened, or is going to happen. I do eat Amy’s on occasion and have never had any issues. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free,cf, Sf, Eg, Cornf, Yf Pizza Crust?
jenvan replied to Yenni's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You could use Chebe bread mix with an egg replacer and it would meet your needs: Open Original Shared Link Cheese is optional, so just leave that out too. -
Only 5 mgs? Are you splitting a 10mg pill? Why can't you tolerate more--what issues does it give you? I just wonder if you will ever end up noticing much with that small of a dose... From research I've done for others and "surveying" quite a few people, elavil and lexapro seem to be the best overall as far as effectiveness/tolerance. Elavil does...

ARCHIVED I Broke The News To My Mom...
jenvan replied to shai76's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, we all have to do what we feel we need to do, whether that means attending or staying home perhaps. I've been able to work out a few items with my family, but this year we are going to dh's family. I just bring my own food. Remember that's always an option if you don't want to miss out on any family time. But I also understand taking time with your... -

To add to Carla's restaurant list, Mitchell's, Ted's Montana Grill also have gluten-free menus. It's not impossible to eat out, but is harder at 'cheap/fast food' type places, IMO. Safer items to choose include meat and veggies. Veggies can be sauteed or steamed gluten-free easily. Meat and be cooked in a clean plan (specify) pretty easily, if the grill... -
ARCHIVED Flour Questions For A Newcomer...
jenvan replied to my2sons's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I prefer to use my old original recipes, rather than new ones. I use the tollhouse one, in fact, for my choc chip cookies and it works great. You can either find or create your own flour mix, but don't forget the xanthan gum. Or, you can buy a flour mix too. I do both, depending. Depending on your tastes, you may like some flours better than others.... -

Hey friend! I am having a cookie exchange next month too--I do it every year, even though I can't eat most of them Except in cases of cream cheese or sour cream recipes, I can usually make any gluten-free/cf. I use a flour mix one for one in recipes and sub non dairy milk and earth balance cf butter for all my baking. You've probably seen me mention... -
A small amount of mucous is normal. If there is a great deal of mucous, I would have it cked out, but some amount is typical.
