ARCHIVED Does This Look Like Dermatitis Herpetiformis To You?
eatmeat4good replied to MerrillC1977's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You are not crazy. DH is very..I mean VERY sensitive to gluten and iodine. You will react withing hours of eating it. Here is a low iodine diet link. Open Original Shared Link Eggs and dairy also make my rash react...probably due to the iodine. Carageenan is a seaweed and it is present in most milk products. You will have to see if it bothers you or... -
Yes, you can google low iodine diets. There are many. It is used temporarily by people who are going to have their thyroid radiated with radioactive iodine. But it is perfect for the temporary limiting of iodine like those of us with DH need to do. Here is a good one. Open Original Shared Link

Have your thyroid checked. Hashimoto's is very common with Celiac. It totally destroys your energy level. Be extremely careful about eating out and be vigilant about cross contamination at home. Traces of gluten can keep you from healing completely. Even tiny amounts can sap your energy. Be sure you are getting enough protein. The body needs protein...

ARCHIVED Could I Have Celiac?
eatmeat4good replied to melanie-c's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had the interstitial cystitis all of my life. As a child I was a bedwetter. Badder spasms...always had to GO but never could empty completely. I was put on antibiotics on a daily basis for years. I'm telling you...it could be gluten. It definitely was for me. I pee normally for the first time in my life. I don't have any spasms or urgency like I used... -
ARCHIVED Could I Have Celiac?
eatmeat4good replied to melanie-c's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
All of your symptoms listed are consistent with Celiac. Including the interstitial cystitis. I was very surprised when mine went away as soon as I got rid of gluten. It was the first thing to disappear and it has never come back not even once in the year that I have been gluten free. Don't stick your head in the sand. You might be one of us... -
ARCHIVED Does This Look Like Dermatitis Herpetiformis To You?
eatmeat4good replied to MerrillC1977's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
That looks very much like DH to me. The tiny blisters are consistent. Some will say they must have a dark purple color, but mine didn't in the beginning of the disease. They looked like yours. Later however, they became deeper and darker purple but it took years to get to that stage. Try eliminating gluten and iodine and see if it helps. Some Dr.'s... -
Welcome and yes we can empathize with your situation as there are many of us here who can't handle gluten-- Or the thought of eating it for 3 months to get tested. It sounds like you have gotten a handle on the basics and you are educating yourself. Read, read, read, here in order to be sure of avoiding trace gluten. Rice should be OK but as for reading...

I have used cortisone cream on my lesions and it helps with the pain. But as PricklyPear says it doesn't help the healing. I was on Prednisone for a long time and I did flare with my lesions when I came off of it. Avoiding iodine and gluten very strictly is what helps. Any little mistake and the lesions flare. Walgreens Pain Reliving Ointment is Benzocaine...

ARCHIVED Cold And Flu Season - What's Your Remedy?
eatmeat4good replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mucinex, vitamin C, Zinc and drink lots of water. Ibuprofen is not necessarily bad for Celiacs, just that some people's DH is sensitive to NSAIDS and or Salicylates. You just have to try them and see if it makes your DH react. It made mine go abolutely crazy. -
I use Basmati Rice that I buy at an International store. I always wash the rice until the water runs clear. I have never been contaminated and neither has my son. I buy different brands but always treat it the same way. Rinse until the water runs clear. Soak for 30 minutes in cold water. Change the water again. I have found that after soaking I only...

ARCHIVED New Here!
eatmeat4good replied to LandiBear's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The malnutrition can cause you to stop menstruating. It happens to those with Anorexia too. The mechanism is the same...the body cannot afford to spend the energy on menstruation when you are completely malnourished. The malabsorption is the problem. Once you begin healing you should start menstruating again if Celiac is the the problem for you. B... -
ARCHIVED How Long To "clean" System After No More Gluten
eatmeat4good replied to yathnk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you tested negative it doesn't mean you are not Celiac. It means you are one of the 30% who don't test positive. If you cleaned your kitchen out from all the gluten products, that alone can account for enough gluten to keep you sick for two weeks. It takes a while to heal. The antibodies can stay a long time. And even if you don't have antibodies or... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Nuts
eatmeat4good replied to Sarah B's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have DH and need to have unsalted nuts too. NutsOnline.com is excellent. They offer everything you could want in nuts and offer unsalted options for all of them. They also have a large gluten free section with all kinds of flours, spices, etc. I highly recommend them. -
ARCHIVED Pretty Sure I Have Celiac
eatmeat4good replied to KiwiBrit's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm so sorry you have had to go through all of that. I'm glad she finally suggested going gluten free and it is wonderful that it is helping you. I understand about the medical bills...and feeling alone. It sucks. I hope you will read read read here about cross contamination and trace gluten because it is the only way to get really well. A lot of people... -

That is how my DH starts, with pinpoint raised tiny blisters. -
ARCHIVED Chronic Urticaria
eatmeat4good replied to StacyMartin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have had DH for 7 years. The antibodies stay in the skin for a long long time. It can take some people take up to 2 years strictly gluten free to heal. The antibodies can stay in the skin for up to 10 years. I'm one year gluten free and have had great improvement in the rash, but still react violently to trace gluten and iodine. It tends to break out... -

ARCHIVED Skin Trauma: Please Tell Me I'm Not A Hypochondriac
eatmeat4good replied to Jenniferxgfx's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I just want to add that although it might seem appropriate to use Ibuprofen for the anti-inflammatory effects or for pain management, it is not a good choice for DH. DH is sometimes very sensitive to NSAIDS and salicylates. I used it to manage the pain of DH for years not knowing it was actually making things really way worse. I found several articles... -
ARCHIVED Hi Guys Im New Here And Trying Experiement. Have Questions.
eatmeat4good replied to gonnagoGfree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hey, I should have mentioned this with the arm rash being peristant. Try getting a dermatologist to biopsy the clear skin next to the lesions for DH. If you have DH- You are Celiac. The skin form of DH. If you are gluten free you may not test positive, but it might be worth a try to get a biopsy. -
Please share your recipe if you have a nice way of making flatbread! I'm not very creative and have only made Besan Chickpea flatbread. It isn't even a recipe. Just put 1/3 c. Chickpea Flour Add water to make a batter Fry in a hot skillet until it sorta looks like a flatbread. sometimes rubbery, sometimes yummy... See why I need recipes...

ARCHIVED Cooking With Cast Iron Pans
eatmeat4good replied to gaillynne's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I haven't bought one yet. I'm just engaged.... Do you have a recommendation on what to buy? I don't think I want one with that icky coating on it. And if it is gonna take 10 years to season this pan... Then it really is a marriage! I may not live long enough to be able to use a well-seasoned cast iron pan! But I'm gonna try.
