ARCHIVED Kroger Brands
ianm replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have never had a problem with Kroger products. -
ARCHIVED 3 Years, Still No Support.
ianm replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have to agree with the other, your 21, time to move out and be on your own. It won't be easy but nothing worth having ever is. I will be very blunt, your family is a bunch of losers and they know it. That is why they are coming after you. My ex-wife sounds like your family. I ended up getting rid of her and it was the smartest thing I ever did. Time to... -
ARCHIVED Who's From Michigan?
ianm replied to StrongerToday's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I grew up in the Mt Pleasant area and now live in Ann Arbor. -
Buckwheat and flaxseed are also good. They don't give me a blood sugar spike and are another good thing to eat. Flaxseed also is high in omega 3 fatty acids like salmon. I really notice a difference if I don't eat flaxseed and salmon for a while.

The carb loading really messes me up so I don't do that anymore. My blood sugar spikes and then crashes and I can't recover quickly. I stick with meat, nuts and green veggies. Small amounts of these throughout the day works best for me. Salmon seems to be the best meat when I am riding and I avoid fruit because it raises my blood sugar too fast.

ARCHIVED Moving Forward
ianm replied to kenyan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Some people get better right away and for others it is much longer. For me it was around three months before I could say I was really getting better and about a year to say I felt healthy. It has been almost two years now and I can really say I am truly healthy. Don't try to rush and give it time. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Get Angry At Having This Illness?
ianm replied to sillyyak's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It takes time. Close to two years for me but be patient and good things will come. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Get Angry At Having This Illness?
ianm replied to sillyyak's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ironically this disease is the best thing that ever happened to me. I was angry that I wasted the first 36 years of my life because of it but that is just wasted time and energy. Two years ago my life was a disaster. I was days away from losing my job, obese and my marriage was disintegrating. Now my life is better than ever. I lost the weight, have energy... -
ARCHIVED Dyslexic? Daughter With Reading Problems
ianm replied to DonnaD's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son hates to read and write but he runs circles around everyone in math. He is also very mechanically oriented and very hands-on. I don't make a big deal about it because that is how engineers are and he is probably doomed to become one. All of the men on my side of the family are engineers. Every engineer I know can barely read, write, speak or spell... -
ARCHIVED Does This Happen To Others, Or Am I Weirdo?
ianm replied to VydorScope's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That junk USED TO taste good but now it just tastes gross. Now that my body is free from that poison I have learned to appreciate real food which tastes much better anyway. -
I went through a period of severe depression after going gluten-free. My life was falling apart at the time also. It was probably a combination of the diet change and life events. However things did get better, much better. It does take time but it is worth it to stick to the diet.

ARCHIVED Does This Happen To Others, Or Am I Weirdo?
ianm replied to VydorScope's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I miss that junk like a great big gaping hole in the head. I don't crave it all. Watching people eat junk food is just too disgusting anymore. If people only knew, or cared about what it was doing to their bodies. The weirdos are the ones who eat gluten. -
As a member of the formerly obese club I notice much more how fat and out of shape most people are. It seems that more and more people I know complain that they just can't keep up with me anymore.

My son gets a 1/2 hour recess in the AM and a 1/2 hour after lunch plus gym 2-3 times a week. The public school system he is in is considered one of the best in the country. There is a big emphasis on physical fitness. All of the surrounding school districts have little or no recess and they are among the worst in the country. I learned almost nothing in...

ARCHIVED How Do You Handle People Who Refuse To Recognize This Celiac Stuff?
ianm replied to frustratedneicey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some people lose weight, the classic symptom, others gain weight and some have no symptoms at all. There are quite a few weight gainers here. When I get glutened I bloat up like a balloon and pack on the pounds. When I stopped eating gluten the weight came off rather quickly. There are some posts on this forum that state that weight gain is now believed to... -
Why do people think that dumping a bucket of perfume or cologne on themselves is a good thing? It just stinks and makes everyone gag. I would rather smell someones BO than perfume.

This doctor sounds like there is hope for the medical profession after all. I would like to know more about what kind of infections he is referring to and what to do about them.

ARCHIVED Brain Fog
ianm replied to Irishjoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ugly people, That's IT! Maybe we can see something that others can't? It is funny I used to have an eye contact problem. Maybe the brain fog just makes it too hard to focus on the non-verbal aspects of communication. -
ARCHIVED Top 5 Naturally Gluten Free Foods
ianm replied to JessicaB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
1. Meat - Fish, Fowl and Beast, it's all good. 2. Veggies 3. Fruit 4. Cheese 5. Wine -
I have been there, boy have I been there. I used to be the butt of everyone's jokes because of my brain fog and obesity. Now that I have energy and mental clarity they whine and gripe because they can't keep up with me. Whenever someone flops their gut up onto the donut table and say's, "Ha! Ha! you can't have one." or some other dumb-@ss remark I lift up...

ARCHIVED How Do You Handle People Who Refuse To Recognize This Celiac Stuff?
ianm replied to frustratedneicey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
People either get it or they don't. My ex-wife just didn't get it all and it is why we got divorced. However I was able to trade her in for a terrific girlfreind who gets it completely. My dad and brother need to be gluten-free but they just aren't interested. They have the weight gain, bloating, brain fog, fatigue and all of the other wonderful aspects of... -
ARCHIVED Omg Omg Omg!
ianm replied to cherie012's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Nothing makes your day like a good dump. It is rather disturbing that the doctor was quick to put a child on heavy duty drugs and not consider a dietary change first. -
ARCHIVED Brain Fog
ianm replied to Irishjoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sums it all right up. It has been a long time since I have had to say that. -
ARCHIVED Brain Fog
ianm replied to Irishjoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You sound just like me. The brain fog was crippling and I almost lost everything because of it. I did not have any real gut issues either. I think you have already answered your questions. The low carb diets worked so stick with them. -
Is there any other kind that is better?
