Most of my migraines cleared up after going gluten-free. However, I have had a few bouts of them coming back, and a lot, and it was only after discovering another food I should avoid that I end them. I currently have gone more than a month without - I think the last one happened from vicodin (ironic, huh?) Are you taking calicium channel blockers? I've...

ARCHIVED Its Offical!
skbird replied to VydorScope's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Congrats, Vincent. I know how much this means to you. Yeah!!! Stephanie -
About being allergic - I have always had a stomach reaction to black tea. Usually one cup is ok, but two days in a row or more and I get stomach problems and headaches, feels like burning in my veins. I have asked many people, no one had any idea. They always thought it was the caffeine. I can drink green tea, and white tea. Last year I became aware that...

Jackie - that is a good one! I'll file it away, though my new workplace is very supportive. Of the 6 employees, one is allergic to garlic, one is on Weight Watchers, and the third is vegan. So they all understand very well having a diet that doesn't allow you to eat what most people do. And Creid - I'm really sorry. I have gotten teased before. Sometimes...

ARCHIVED Belladonna
skbird replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Belladonna means pretty poison(ous) for me, as I can't have nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, eggplant, kava kava, tobacco, and belladonna). I am looking at a bottle of generic Lomotil I was given a couple of years ago for diarrhea (cuz they didn't find any parasites... of course...) but I was smart enough to look it up first - nightshades make me... -
ARCHIVED ~~~oreos~~~ At Last, There Is A Substitute~~~~
skbird replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some day, SOME DAY, I hope to see a faux-reo (fake Oreo), a pie crust mix, a killer baking mix that everyone on this forum raves about that doesn't have potato. I know that's asking a lot. We finally got Trader Joes in town (YEAH!!!) and nearly every Gluten Free baked good there had potato in it. I looked at the banana waffles with longing... So... -
I have been getting some joint discomfort (not full-on pain) in my hand joints and sometimes my feet/ankles. I started getting this last spring after getting glutened. Then I had a flare over the summer and now again I"m having another. I have not been glutened to I don't know what is going on - all my rheumatology labs have been fine except ANA which was...

ARCHIVED Bipolar Disorder And Gluten Free Diet
skbird replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It's a possibility that it will help you. I was misdiagnosed as bipolar and had episodes, but since going gluten free I have been very stable. Actually, things improved when I initially went on the Atkins diet. Also, going off of birth control pills made a difference as well. I made some posts about this recently as my doc was considering this diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED Slow Moving Gut
skbird replied to LLRD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I tried a sample Zelnorm a couple of weeks back and bloated up like I couldn't believe! It was horrible, and I felt like I was going to have the runs at any second for about 16 hours after I took it, then I finally went and it wasn't runs but cleaned out likely every crevice in my body. Then two days later I had the worst migraine and stomach upset for 2... -
ARCHIVED Oats, Are They Ok To Eat?
skbird replied to nobeer4me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like Quinoa Flakes, by Ancient Harvest. They are really good and have a lower glycemic index than cream of rice. There is another kind I found at the health food store, an "instant" quinoa ceral in a chai flavor, but I wasn't that impressed - they seemed too sweet and too little substance. Also very small portion and $$$. Stephanie -
ARCHIVED Inactive Ingredients
skbird replied to tofu8grrrl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went through a phase of trying to buy name brand Advil, but I'm such a cheapy that was hard. I have been taking costco brand (kirkland) generic ibuprofin with no problems. I have been taking quite a bit recently, too, and I seem to be really sensitive to gluten stuff so I'm fairly certain there is nothing in that stuff. Believe me, I'd be a big fat... -
Totally funny! Especially the EnerG bread, however, have any of you tried the light tapioca yet? Seriously, it isn't bad. Toast it and put butter on it... it's pretty decent. OK, it's no Manna From Anna... but I do like it. Those are probably my two favorite gluten-free breads. Stephanie

ARCHIVED Recurring Back Itch
skbird replied to RiceGuy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have noticed that when I have gluten, I get itchy around my collar bone area. This sometimes happens when I have corn, too, but mainly non-organic corn. I used to always have an itchy back in the winter, and last year it stopped (I had just gone gluten free). But I also was taking in regular supplemental oils so I figured that was the reason. However... -
ARCHIVED Test Results In :(
skbird replied to VydorScope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is what my doctor told me. When I first went gluten free, two weeks into it I was feeling better and told my doctor. He said don't worry about blood tests, positive dietary challenge is good enough. He told me to go gluten free 6 months, then try reintroducing gluten. With the slip ups I'd had, I didn't bother reintroducing. I had my answer. Stephanie -
ARCHIVED Can You Be Gluten Intolerant And Not Cd
skbird replied to GUSSLER9's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I get what celiac3270's saying, but I think there needs to be another name. Celiac comes from Latin (I think Latin, maybe Greek?) for "stomach." While I have stomach symptoms, I believe just as much if not more of my damage is neurological and psychological. But, if you follow the logic that a person with DH is automatically diagnosed Celiac, then I guess... -
ARCHIVED Got My Genetic Results
skbird replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the wonderful world of DQ1! I have one copy of DQ1 and it's a barrel of monkeys. For more info on the glories of this gene, you may want to check out this forum: Open Original Shared Link Yes, as Carrie said, each of your parents have one DQ1 gene (at least) but it also means your kids will have at least one. You have two DQ1 genes... -
ARCHIVED I Guess I Have To Starve?
skbird replied to frustratedneicey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Rachel - if you are avoiding sweets for possible candida reasons, you can still use stevia. It has no sugar in it whatsoever. Nothing for the bad bacteria to feed off of. It depends on the brand, those that are stronger in the sweet elements have less of a bitter taste. Usually straight stevia will be too much to take, it's best when added in with something... -
ARCHIVED Gingerbread Recipe For Gingerbread House Needed
skbird replied to PrincessLEah's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
OK, if I can get this recipe to work, you will be one of my favorite people. I don't see any reasonf or me to make any substitutions on this, wow! So rare! Thanks! Stephanie -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Oats Are Here!
skbird replied to mamaw's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sucks... I liked them, but not unless I also had liberal amounts of brown sugar and cream. I can still have the cream but the brown sugar ain't doable for me, so it's just not the same. I mean, oats and stevia? Blech. Stephanie -
ARCHIVED I Guess I Have To Starve?
skbird replied to frustratedneicey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
God, so I'm a tree-hugging granola (without the oats) and I didn't realize that was a bad, uppity thing. I have so much to learn. Sorry if that offends anyone... Here's a sweet treat that is CF, gluten-free, and SF (yep, I'm an uppity non-junk food eater who can't tolerate regular sugar...) Hot Chocolate Take 1 cup coconut milk (or 1/2c coconut milk... -
ARCHIVED Ana Tests
skbird replied to danikali's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I, too, had a positive ANA test, 1:320 the first time, then 1:160. Both are positive, one, obviously is higher than the other. I was sent to a rheumatologist who also tested me for everything, but didn't find anything. I do have some joint symptoms and had pleurisy pains for a few months, but they have subsided now. I still have some joint sensations. I was... -
ARCHIVED Have Been Poisoning Myself For 3 Months!
skbird replied to cornbread's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Pregelatinized starch can contain gluten. It's one of those iffy ingredients. I try to avoid it, it is in one pill I was taking but I got rid of it... Stephanie -
ARCHIVED Egg Free / gluten-free Eggnog?
skbird replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been enjoying some real honest-to-god organic regular egg nog for the past month when I cracked open a carton of the Silk expecting to be disappointed. That stuff is REALLY GOOD! I mean it is basically as good as the good organic stuff I was having, without all the fat and egg, etc... YUM! Stephanie -
ARCHIVED Birth Control Pill
skbird replied to mtrubitz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried the nuvaring and didn't like my reaction. However, I was on various BCPs for 13 years and off for the past 4, and I'm beginning to think that my emotional problems in my 20's are a result of being on the pill, something I just never realized. My recent attempt at the Nuvaring left me very emotionally bent out of shape, plus dampened my already... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Oats Are Here!
skbird replied to mamaw's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Someone posted a while back either on this forum or another that the had a newsletter from their pediatrician with an article indicating that while there is a portion of Celiacs who can tolerate oats, those who have the other gluten intolerant genes usually can't tolerate oats. Especially those with neurological presentations of gluten intolerance. I know...
