  1. I'll keep you posted. It may be a while, though as I'm looking for a new doctor and my insurance is minimal.
  2. When doing a trial I'd avoid the gluten free products anyway. They gave me a lot of trouble and even cross contaminated my son. When we went strictly to whole foods we all did much better. It's also much easier to identify what is giving you trouble that way. We followed the GAPS order of reintroducing dairy. I have been able to introduce ghee and homemade...
  3. I'm sorry your life is being so impacted by this, Shauna! That does not sound fun at all
  4. nora_n btw Not all labs will do the alpha testing and tell the full results. I used Kimball Genetics division of Labcorp for this reason. I did have to call the councilor for the full results after just receiving the summary they sent to my dr.
  5. I don't know whether I have it but my son does. My whole family went gluten-free and then did GAPS. I wrote a blog post called changes on gaps with my experience. You can find it on the blog linked on my profile. There is a regular on here who is a chef and has celiac without symptoms. I think her name is love2travel or luv2travel. Look for her posts!
  6. Another vote for the GAPS book, here. I have a bunch of blogs posted about it as well (see the link on my profile). We thought nightshades were an issue and took introducing them slowly and now they seem to be fine. We introduced them about 5 months into GAPS, I think. GAPS starts out totally grain free for a couple years, then allows slow introduction of...
  7. Heidi, I just want to say I'm sorry you got of to a rough start here but am glad that seems to be blowing over. I think aiming for healing leaky gut really is the way to go. If you decide to reintroduce gluten in a few years I'd encourage you to get tested regularly in case you are experiencing continued damage without feeling it. As for other causes, I...
  8. I just realized I do have genetic risk, so I emailed my parents and brother. I told them the full list of blood tests to request and told them the risk was low but since the potential for serious consequences from leaving it untreated is serious that I hoped they would get tested. My dad wrote me back saying no way but thanks for the info. This was no...
  9. Whoa, that last bit was so completely over my head! Lol
  10. They're idiots. My dad doesn't believe in evolution but has the same kind of perspective. One thing I've learned is if someone has made an irrational belief a part of their identity there is no reasoning with it. It's also not something to take seriously or take to heart.
  11. I <3 IrishHeart! That was exceptionally well said.
  12. Yes! Incidentally, I'm reading the book Healthier Without Wheat by dr Stephen Wagner and he hammers on the point of celiac being just one symptom of gluten intolerance, which can be just as serious in other ways.
  13. I recently read that article, too. Anectdotally, I was fine with eggs when we first introduced them. Then I started reacting to them. My partner recently suggested maybe that was because she had changed their feed to one including soy. (we are soy free because of the GAPS diet). We're going to change the feed back, give it a couple weeks, and try again.
  14. That is the best thing I've read all morning
  15. We didn't do it, but I confess to wishing we'd at least done all the blood testing before going gluten-free. I've been considered a hypochondriac most of my life (all those days I was sick with no fever) and looking back I had even attributed that to bullying and nerves so still I don't know whether it was psychological or physical. Even with my son, when...
  16. You have a life threatening reaction and there is good cause to believe that wheat and grains in general really aren't that good for people in general. No way would I introduce gluten early, and maybe not a all. I would take the GAPS approach to introducing solids if I had it to do again.
  17. I'll have to look into that. I was tested for diabetes 1 as a kid and then again several years ago bib I don't know exactly what rests were run. I was just told they were negative.
  18. I stand corrected, but I still don't buy it Im all for the stuff with science to back it up, though. GAPS is great, but that sounds a bit too good to be true to me. Of course I'd love to be proved wrong, though!
  19. Thank you!!! You've really helped, Skylark
  20. Pack it in the checked bag or buy a new cheap one of course! Good point, though!
  21. You'll be better off andake less of a scene if you just do your own food. Thy turkey will be cc'd think about it, pies being baked, stuffing being made in the SE kitchen, dinner rolls, people coming back for seconds... Last year we hadn't quite figured it out and realized just how ridiculous it was to try and share food at a gathering like this. We...
  22. I wonder how many of the "lazy and mean" people out there are really just in poor health! I'm glad you have found your answers and can begin to heal now. Welcome!
  23. Are you sending a cutting board, knife, pan, and sponges? Having his own stuff to use will make cc issues much easier to avoid. He cares...trust him!
  24. Make sure that your doctor biopsies the clear skin just next to the rash, not the bumps themselves!
  25. It's not making fun, kareng. I've seen this body testing method used in siincerity by many alternative health care practitioners. I'm sure OP didnt make it up to tease people.
