ARCHIVED Boils
nikki-uk replied to hannahsue01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I posted this question a little while ago for my son.(13 yrs old) Every little pimple turns into a raging boil-and takes ages to heal as the hole tends to be big. He's had to have numerous courses of antibiotics and are really painful for him. His recent coeliac blood test came back positive (and so I'm sure it's linked)but also apparently he has... -
ARCHIVED Am I Paranoid?
nikki-uk replied to taz sharratt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can sympathise with your hubby,as one of my boys has Downs Syndrome and although it's not the same as your boys visual problems-I do understand having a child that's 'different'. I am a little sad that now I will have to add celiac disease to my son's list of conditions-but at least by going G.F it will give him the best chance of being healthy-but yeah... -
ARCHIVED Am I Paranoid?
nikki-uk replied to taz sharratt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Taz,I know it's difficult if your hubby is against it-but you are right-it is in the genes-and I think as a mum you get a 'gut' feeling about these things. After my hubby was dx and I become aware of the whole myriad of symptoms that go along with it,I noticed that some sypmtoms fitted 2 of my boys. I'd asked my hubby's gastro if they should be tested... -

ARCHIVED Contractions Or Just Really Bad D?
nikki-uk replied to Melzo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
9lb 130z! (Ouch!) In the UK the midwives do a very scientific thing to check if your frame can take a normal delivery-they check the size of your feet!! -
LOL-In the UK they were called ski pants usually worn with fetching ankle boots I mustn't grumble though-the leggings see me through my 3 pregnancies (elastic waist a must)and I do affectionately call them the leggings years. I only hope shoulder pads don't come back in (definitely one for the fashion police) Rachel-I love Abercrombie jeans-and...

Oh yes,I like them Rachel-cosy yet practical. I love a slipper with a hard sole-this means I can potter about in the garden or put the rubbish (garbage) out without getting soggy feet (damn,it's always wet in the UK!) Check out my faddy shoes (N.B all out of stock-so popular!) Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Just Got Bad News
nikki-uk replied to Nikki2003's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know how you feel,my son has just had a positive blood test-and I was really hoping he wouldn't have celiac disease. He too seems to be growing and putting on weight normally. I suppose you've got to turn it around, and think that they are lucky to be dx as a child, thus saving them from the terrible effects this disease can have on your body when un... -
Andrea and Julie,-thanks for your kind words about my son-and as soon as he's had his biopsy I will be speaking to the relevant school staff etc about his food. It's something else to worry about!(we Mums just can't stop worrying about our kids!) Hey,I'm glad you knew what I'm talking about with the crocs! They are ugly-but so comfortable Mine...

Howdy ho everyone! Just posted about my trip here Open Original Shared Link It was fantastic to be able to relax about Terry eating. We all had a great time, basically being really lazy, sitting round the pool, even participating in the odd sangria (spanish drink) hic! I hope everyone is well. *sigh*,My son had a paediatrician's appointment...

Had a great holiday in Los Cristianos and found eating out suprisingly easy for hubby. Armed with a celiac.com dining card in Spanish we found the Spanish very accomodating to his diet. Terry mainly ate steak or fish-and when we showed the waiter the dining card they would speak to the chef, come back and say 'no problem'. My main piece of advise is to...

Yeah,I've heard that too.My little 'boil man' got a staph infection in his chest wound after heart surgery Ugh-that wasn't a good time. The docs said it's a bacteria that most of us have on our skin. Don't see how you can prevent more boils if this is the case? Hi Chloe!! Do you apply it to the skin,or eat it?? Karen... -

PP(premature post) Interesting about the neutrophil thing. Rinne,my son keeps getting boils (I suspect he's a coeliac and is waiting on blood results) The slightest little pimple seems to end up as a full scale boil. He currently has a nasty one on his leg, which started as an tiny yellow head. Oh gosh, his poor leg got sooo red and inflamed (hot... -

ARCHIVED Any "home-canners" Out There?
nikki-uk replied to jenvan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Patti, I have hanging baskets which I keep going year round. The only thing I've found to live through the frosts is 'winter pansies' with some trailing ivy(nothing kills that!!) I don't know their if you can get such a thing as 'winter pansies' over there though?
