ARCHIVED Blurred/double Vision In One Eye?
casnco replied to Joni63's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Fortunatly for me my visual migranes are short lived. They have a slow onset as in hours of slightly blurred vision. I almost dont notice it for a while. Then complete loss for only 1/2 hour or less. Rarely do I experience pain. Dull ache is the worst of it. I guess inlight of your suffering I am pretty lucky. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Panel!
casnco replied to ShayBraMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I dont blame you, I would want proof also. I do not have children but I am not sure I would want to subject my child to the affects of gluten. If you are not positive you have cut out all cross contamination and unseen gluten you should still test positive if indeed your daughter is positive. But this is just my opinion. Hope others on the board chime... -
ARCHIVED Blurred/double Vision In One Eye?
casnco replied to Joni63's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Joni, seeing an eye doctor is not a bad idea. This happens to me also. I can not pinpoint what the exact cause is and I feel confident it is usually a cross contamination. My doctor told me it was a visual migrane. She prescribed a migrane med for me but I do not take it. If it is CC glutening then I know it will pass. mine do not have a severe pain... -

ARCHIVED Am I To Have A Total gluten-free Household?
casnco replied to hafadai43's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I too am four years diagnosed. Just like you this winter I had a terrable reaction and no known contamination. This reaction lasted four months!!! My skin is still recovering (dermititis herpaformosis). My husband and I read a thread on here about kissing someone who has consumed gluten. So he decided to go gluten free. And suddently I began to feel... -
ARCHIVED B 6

If you have a hard time taking pills you can put them in applesauce then take them. You hardly know they are in there. You can crush them first if you like but that will change the taste of the applesauce. Most of the time I put mine in whole. Pudding will also work. Something that you don't chew before you swallow. Good Luck. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Out There Not Support The Use Of Probiotics?
casnco replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I purchased a probiotic via a mail order company. I took them for a month and didn't notice any difference. I quit them feeling it was a waste of time and money. Then I went to an herbalist. She told me the probiotic needs to be refridgerated to keep them alive or working, whatever the term is. She gave one that says gluten free and I have been taking... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Get Your Fiber?
casnco replied to Joni63's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That was my biggest problem also when I went gluten-free. For Breakfast I love short grain brown rice warm with milk and sugar, or with just raw honey. Raw honey because it helps with digestion. Also I have recently started eating a hot cereal called Quinona flakes. Very good and has the texture of Oatmeal. Then there are always fresh fruits and veggies... -
ARCHIVED Glutened From Miniscule Amount?
casnco replied to geelet's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Unfortunatly I have the same responce to kissing someone who has consumed gluten. What a bummer!!!! Fortunately my hubby has decided to be gluten free with me. Now there is a nice guy!! And he can now have kisses anytime he wants one. I wash my hands before I eat everytime. If I am at work I know I can count on people not being carefull with the microwave... -
ARCHIVED Old-timers Help! Reacting Again!
casnco replied to oceangirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am certainly no expert. And I could be way off base. But my thought, for what it is worth is you could have just increased your fiber so much your body is having a difficult time handeling it. I have had reactions very similar to what you are describing (minus the hip pain) when I increase my fiber to quickly. Good Luck. I hope you feel better soon... -
ARCHIVED Soft Dough Pretzel Recipe
casnco replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't know if you started yet but if it were me, I would definately go with the Pamela's. When I have used the Pamela's mix though I still add baking powder. It makes thinks lighter IMO. Good luck and let us all know, we are waiting with baited breath! -

Deb: Thanks for clearing up Hashi's/Hashimoto's Disease. I will google that and see if my thyroid issues are related. Good luck with your research on the antibodies. It is a shame doctors are so busy/disinterested that we must do our own investigation and practically self diagnose.

Wowzer and Joan: Thanks so much for your input. Wowzer. I have more anti itch ream than I knew was available to man! I am taking claritin and it seems to help a little. Joan; I just went to an herbalist on Wednesday. Of course that is not magic and an overnight cure doesn't happen. I have a lot of faith that she will be able to help me. I see a dermitologist...

ARCHIVED Cedar Point Ohio
casnco replied to kyliekatiesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Went last summer with my family and took a picnic lunch. That wasn't new to anyone because as a cost saver we have always done that. Then everyone can have one park treat. Mine was French Fries! They were on the main drag, right after you come into the park. That is all they make there and they are not seasoned! Just plain old fries. Mmmm, nothing... -
Generic: I just did a steroid taper and a shot of steroid, I cant remember the name right now. They worked great for a short peroid of time but once they were out of my system the itching came right back. Boo Hoo! How long do you do the steroids for and how much do you take?

ENF: Your probably right about not being able to anything for us when we get contaminated. Percoset help eleviate the cramping but I don't know any doctor that would prescribe a narotic for prn use. Tee! Hee! I had some left over from my gall bladder surgery and was able to use one when I felt the cramps coming on. I know once they start I can't hardly...

Thanks for the information. I just found out I can not take Dapson because it is a sulfa drug and I have an allergy to sulfa. Bummer. We are going to try tetracycline.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I called my local natural food store and they recommended me to an herbalist. I am going to contact them this afternoon. I am very greatful for your time and suggestions. Riceguy, can you elaborate on why protien should be avoided? Do you mean animal protien or all protien?
