  1. yes,and the articles I linked to discusses Dr. Hadjivassilliou's research. I have typed his name out so many times on here and have tried to memorize the spelling and I think I am going to just start writing"Dr. H." .
  2. And If our Mindwarp here had not persisted and gone gluten-free, she would be just as sick and debilitated as any celiac with the same symptoms. Gluten = poison in people who cannot tolerate it.
  3. here is some more about neuro symptoms and gluten ....but I hate to overwhelm you, hon Open Original Shared Link
  4. I like Living Without Magazine because it has both recipes and relevant health articles. (even my Gi doc loves to see copies of them) I think Glutenfreegoddess has some of the best recipes. For humor and cutting edge commentary, I enjoy the Gluten Dude. The best book I have read for celiac disease info is: Real Life with Celiac Disease by...
  5. I DO take a tiny magnifying glass to the store with me! and check out "find me gluten free" to see if anyone has posted a review for a local safe place to eat out. As for restricted diets, well, I have been there/done that so many times....but it does get better. if you are 12 years into a gluten-free diet and still do not feel well, you should...
  6. NCGI, in my opinion, is very serious. Doctors always say "IBS" for a collection of symptoms that involve bowel problems...( and I heard that for 12 years) the question is WHY is the bowel irritable??? Did he check for Crohn's? Other inflammatory bowel diseases? If being off gluten, (regardless of a negative celiac diagnosis), makes you feel better...
  7. C Kip! I am so happy to see you! Want my opinion--from my "gut"? sure, why wouldn't you have a reaction of some kind? if you are still having "good and bad days" 3 years later? SOMETHING is causing you grief. Celiacs can also have a wheat allergy (and I say this often) and it is entirely possible that just being around wheat flour ( or people consuming...
  8. Sorry, but the Olive Garden does not even serve very good food....and I found it that way long before I had to be gluten-free. IMHO According to people who post reviews of the gluten-free menu?---the" gluten-free options" are typically reheated, frozen, tasteless and overpriced.
  9. Paranoid is no way to live, hon. Food labeling laws are in place for a good reason. The only thing I can suggest is..call the company and ask. Just know they will say something like "we cannot guarantee...." I personally, choose sausages that say "gluten free" on them, but that's just me and I rarely eat them anyway.
  10. I'll take a look at it, but in the meantime, here is what I DO know: my lifelong friend Suze adopted a grain-free and sugar-free diet right after she was DXed with MS. Eventually, she went paleo, ... then, vegetarian....LONG before these diets were "cool" (I mean 25 years ago) She eats POUNDS of veggies a day, plus soy for her protein (which I have tried...
  11. Gluten ataxia symptoms are not quite the ones you describe here..But, you could be having issues with gluten, yes! Migraines are a gluten-related problem. I had it and I had serious balance problems,my muscles started to atrophy, I had coordination problems, I banged into walls, fell, had trouble focusing my eyes, double vision, vertigo, parasthesia...
  12. Looks like they make several types. What are the ingredients on the label? does anything say wheat? or wheat flour? barley? malt?
  13. Welcome to the family! May I direct you to: (1) this thread for newbies--please read it--lots of good info there (some lady I know wrote it ) http://www.celiac.co...ewbie-info-101/ and (2) I recommend: "Find Me Gluten Free" for dining out and (3) I also HIGHLY recommend this must-read book: Real Life with Celiac...
  14. yeah, I am guessing we all may have noticed that? .
  15. rewritten line from Jerry Maguire: " You had me at squid"
  16. oh dear, we are prone to subliminal behavior modification aren't we?
  17. ..........ok, now, I want beans. good morning sunshine!! I think we're going to have BBQ ribs, chicken and your quickie beans tonight, but NO more cake. I will use diced onions and "not cheap" maple syrup, though. We have some from a local guy down the road (just across the border) in VT who taps his trees. For Sat. dinner with J's Aunt Ann, ...
  18. Hello again, Jo! As raven has pointed out, you really need to cut out all gluten to see any significant improvement in your many symptoms, especially in the anxiety and agoraphobia you have told us about. Hang in there!
  19. OMG!! there's a man in the chat house...and he knows how to cook!! whoohoooo! we salute you! rock on!! welcome, Geoff....so, do you like BACON, by any chance?
  20. they sound fab!! just what I need, more chocolate cake recipes (not! I am getting chubby!) thanks for sharing! have you guys ever made this? It's my go-to dessert even before DX....and everyone (even my WE friends who are chefs--love it!) (P.S. I use the vanilla, not the espresso powder) Open Original Shared Link
  21. I can be there the next time you go....I mean it.!! I just left a drool puddle on my laptop AGAIN after reading this description because I already drooled when I read it on email meanwhile, my non-seafood loving hubs would be looking for the nearest steakhouse........
  22. I dunno....maybe we are slow learners.. and how about this one I just heard about... http://www.glutenfreeblondie.com/2013/04/recipe-gluten-free-matzo-crackers.html
  23. I use the Chebe dough sometimes and I baste it with a garlic-olive oil infusion before I add my toppings and it lightly browns and yet, is still chewy. I give it a good dose of basil and oregano, too I do not add extra cheese to the dough--it really does not need it. IMHO
  24. oh, how great to see you back and to read a line like "host of wondrous flavours" once more !!
