  1. BAH! never! although I like those lacy mantillas. Remember those? does anyone still wear those? But I like this hat! This hat would make me look like hubs. He has a fluffy beard.
  2. Holy crap! I love that hat! Can you make one for me?
  3. I suspect you will have more bowel movements, for starters. That's a lot of fiber.
  4. Hot Buckwheat cereal with maple syrup and banana. Quinoa flakes with agave syrup and berries. Paleo bread (made with coconut and almond flour and flax seed)-moist and delicious, with some butter. These are all full of protein and fiber and keep me going for hours. ETA: um, "going"--as in energy-wise--not "going" to the loo In...
  5. People have to feel as shi**y as we did to want to try gluten-free living. People have to be as deathly ill, in pain and pushed to the brink of despair to say "Okay, maybe it IS the gluten." I prodded a dear friend of mine about this until I feared I would risk our friendship (she is a celiac for sure, IMO but a celiac panel years ago was neg and...
  6. aw, crappers! just like most TV offerings these days.
  7. Hubs said this, too! (By now, you all know he is a chemist) We read labels ....and I ask well????? what is THIS?? He said cellulose is wood, hon.... and I said "Ok, so can I have it?" he said.... sure! ....But I KNOW what it means. It means "bowel movements".
  8. Yup... we see that a lot on here. Family members who do not want "a gluten" issue to be their problem. we call it.... floating in the "river of De Nial."
  9. dang, I missed that show (we have HBO only), should I rent it?
  10. hahahahahaha fantastic!
  11. The gluten on envelopes is just a myth, hon. Do not worry about that, ok? She could just be taking a long time to heal, although, in children, healing is usually faster. I know many people do fine with GEs in the house, but whenever I hear that someone is not healing after a year, I always suggest that cross-contamination may be the problem. No...
  12. Very cool. Sounds delish!!!!! I am not familiar with Hy Vee (I live in NY state) but if you meet ANY guy who can cook, LISTEN to you, fulfill your needs, and you ATE WELL and safely? well, honey, you just hit the mother lode. Who needs a bun if you have all that? Congrats on having a stellar day!!!
  13. Congrats on your culinary success! I am sure Mom feels good today! You could try this next time (she lists measurements for baking powder, gelatin, etc) which may help with the "crumbly aspect": Open Original Shared Link
  14. jes, it's der sama ting right heah, deah. alvays, dey vonder --und dey ask "where you from lady?" (they may not know, shroom, but now, we have crossed threads--similar to crossing the streams in ghostbusters?)
  15. shroom, this sounds almost like my Armenian Gramma's accent.... as in: How you feeling, Grams? "vell, jah, okay, I guess, but I feel a little veak, deah..."
  16. Land's End has tankini sets in size 2. here is an example: Open Original Shared Link Would this work?? I wear a tankini size 8 now, but I once was a size 20-22 (before the celiac triggered )and back then, yeah, I would have laughed (and scoffed and maybe said some choice swear words and THEN maybe tarred and feathered you )for your question...
  17. I learn so darn much from my misadventures.
  18. Bette Davis' line about old age is the one I stole. I say "Celiac--it ain't for sissies" but neither is old age....
  19. I wear size 8 )oh you mean my neighbor? he's always barefoot) .... but it really was foolish of me to wear them-- and the fishnets ---while zip-lining. But they did help break my fall.
  20. Hon, I think she saw it somewhere else. (Not seriously about c.com.) heck, if the members here could NEVER talk about their rotten health, some people would have NOTHING to talk about.
  21. We are grilling tonight, too. Sirloin patties with mixed herbs. Baby potatoes with horseradish cream Grilled tricolor peppers, half to top the burgers tonight (and half I will bag, cool, julienne and marinate in balsamic vinagrette and use tomorrow on garlic crostini with goat cheese.) Apple and dried cranberry cole slaw Mixed...
  22. dang, there goes my next new thread (okay, note to self: ditch telling them about my recent tragic shoulder injury while learning to zip line across the back acreage so I could spy on my weird neighbor whose family members have disappeared, one by one)
  23. I am betting it is more like a tapioca starch. What else would "blow up" baked goods? But yes, having it come from a "chemical" company does give one pause. I may order a sample just for kicks!
  24. People without a gluten intolerance should be able to consume gluten once a day, once a week or once a decade and not have a problem with it. Someone does not "lose the ability to digest it" by going "gluten light or low gluten" unless he had NO ability to tolerate it in the first place. This is how someone test foods for sensitivities. You take them...
