    ARCHIVED Properly Arming Myself

"Villi consistent with celiac"---sounds like a DX to me. I just had my follow up with my new celiac-savvy GI. He is appalled by what I tell him about the Celiacs and NCGIs on here and their experiences with doctors. He is appalled by what happened to me. He said he looks forward to our chats because he learns more about celiac from me than...
  2. Well, a bunch of organs I had were enlarged due to celiac--really, my GB, Spleen, liver, pancreas, thyroid--I had all kinds of "itisis"--so it is possible. Inflammation can cause lots of problems. Fingers crossed, of course! Are you sticking to your diet, kiddo?
  3. If you cover your food, it probably is not the microwave, hon. It is probably the glutening you mention still causing you grief. I just came from my check up today and told my GI doc about my glutening in Dec. and how it caused me problems for weeks. I said, then I seemed to have a problem with more foods, I had really bad bowel stuff, head fog, blah...
  4. uh-oh what's going on???
  5. MarilynR mentioned it to me. PM her!
  6. oops...I said "Congrats" because you mentioned prenatal vitamins. I thought you were already there. Make sure you are healed for several months before you start trying. Your body needs to be in optimal health for pregnancy. IMHO Too many of us had multiple miscarriages because of unDXed celiac disease. Me included. Oh sweetie, DEFINITELY take...
  7. sounds FAB! (drooling) I missed the crescent roll recipe somehow. Would give my arm for stromboli or calzone ...Would you be a love and point me to it? Much thanks, IH
  8. He's right. (i do not often say that about a doctor! ) And the Mayo Clinic reports: For adults, the recommended upper limit for vitamin C is 2,000 milligrams (mg) a day. Although too much dietary vitamin C is unlikely to be harmful, megadoses of vitamin C supplements may cause: Diarrhea Nausea Vomiting Heartburn ...
  9. The Rainbow Light veggie-based vits--including the pre-natal ones-- have so many "extras" in them (spirulina, digestive enzymes, lacto probiotics, etc.) that it is possible that was what was making you sick. I had the same reaction to them. And I had the exact same reaction when I tried ANY vitamins with the spirulina, etc. in them and they were all certified...
  10. Skylark, I wish I had seen that thread because I would have defended your statement. Every time I see a post recommending people just buy random vitamins and supplements and take a bunch of them at high doses, without base level readings or guidance, I cringe. High doses of B vitamins can cause a wide variety of problems. Mega-dosing Vitamin B...
  11. There are multiple threads with makeup in the titles. Lots of good information. Take a look--I am sure you will find what you are looking for! ... and WELCOME to the Forum!! here is one, for example:
  12. Oh yes, I forgot that one! My answer to that one was...?. "Well, someone in the family has to be diagnosed first. Guess that's me."
  13. I was never fighting with ROSE...I am no fighter, I'm a Lover! I do not think that calling a food intolerance a "cross-reaction" is the same as the accepted medical condition called cross-reactions in ALLERGIES. It is not a matter of semantics because they are not the same medical condition at all. I have read all the info about the TERM cross...
  14. I suggest you have your levels checked. You need to know WHY this is happening. Neuropathy needs to be investigated. Have your B-12, Folate and Blood glucose checked and see a NEUROLOGIST. I had the same symptoms you describe. Everyone has made good suggestions, and I do not disagree with them-- but it is wise to have a baseline level done...
  15. Three kinds of anemia may cause this: Iron deficiency, B-12 deficiency AND FOLATE deficiency. I had shortness of breath as a major symptom and walking the length of my driveway was a task. I was heaving trying to breathe. Had to stop going to the gym. I had my iron and ferritin storage levels checked (ok) and B-12 supplemented (it was very low) and...
  16. YET (sorry, I am a tad "jaded"-- to say the least)
  17. congrats! and nope! best wishes!
  18. Happy Birthday from one Prof to another! Thanks for sharing your inspirational story. I am a late-in-life DXed celiac myself, but this last year of being gluten-free has been a year of slow healing and because I relentlessly pursued a DX, I feel as though, I too was re-born. I was the walking dead for 3 years. Not anymore. It will take me a while...
  19. that is AWESOME!!! (omg, I have tears in my eyes) I know how big that is. See, honey....you're getting there! Keep up the supplements and hang in there. THAT IS SO GREAT! yaaaay! Okay that does it, I'm making something for dessert to celebrate!
  20. Alex, sweetie! go and have a blast! So proud of you! ((hugs))
  21. Perhaps you cannot tolerate the dairy? Are you newly diagnosed? if so, lactose may be an issue. Temporary secondary lactose intolerance is very common. Also. you are still healing your gut and many foods may give your grief at first. It is not always hidden gluten causing the problem. Just a suggestion.
  22. Progresso is a part of General Mills. "General Mills offers several products that are labeled gluten-free. Please check the package label for the gluten-free statement on the front/side/back of the package. Only products that can be verified to be gluten free will be declared as gluten free on the label. It is important to check the product label each...
  23. wow, Mitzi..... doc says you're "good to go" then! Have a donut. OY
  24. Hey! Know what? I miss LOVE2TRAVEL's meal posts. Although my keyboard is less icky from all that drooling. Hope she's having fun.
  25. I arm-wrestled him for it and won. (he's a foot taller and weighs 80 lbs. more than I do) but when there's cake involved.... SUPERBOWL (go PATS! ) 4-cheese white pizza with garlic and broccoli for a "starter"(really testing that "lactose tolerance" thing today ) Marinated Lamb, coconut sticky rice, sauteed chard. Rice pudding? Tapioca...
