  1. There comes a point where you have to face the fact that you are abusing yourself for some reason. You know it makes you deathly ill, but you keep on doing it. It's just that simple. You have to stop hurting yourself. Hon, I have to agree with karen...you need some help--from family, a friend or a counselor. Otherwise, you will keep living in gluten hell...
  2. I'm with you, kiddo. No amount of $$$ can compensate me for the the years I have spent in gluten-induced hell. If you lived what I have lived, you would not even find this question amusing..... and I have a gigantic sense of humor. I suppose some people think watching someone have "potty issues" is entertaining or funny?? (if so, geesh, get a life...
  3. Meat, I know how you have struggled mightily with these sores and I admire your strength! I was reading in Recognizing Celiac Disease that chronic urticaria results from an "immune mechanism, gastrointestinal inflammation in celiac disease, and increased intestinal permeabilitiy facilitating the passage of antigens". (p. 169) It further asserts that...
  4. I used to do the same thing when I was still teaching---schedule enough time for making sure I was "okay to leave the house" (or worse, NOT eat so I might avoid the problem and then wonder why I felt so lousy all day long--hypoglycemia anyone??? ) and sadly, I know where every public restroom is within a 300 mile radius of my home--for those "hurry up and...
  5. Let's see, you have gluten- related symptoms, INCREASING in intensity and severity, plus vitamin deficiencies, PLUS the celiac gene, and feeling poorly on gluten?? Sure sounds like celiac disease to me. No one on here will ever call you a "hypochondriac". I do not think wanting answers to your health issues is "wasting money"-not at all...
  6. He LIED to you about a test??? Did he say WHY he did this??? That is about as ridiculous as it gets. I have had my share of ridiculous *&^%$! doctors, so I believe anything! I've been left out to dry myself--first presenting with GI issues/gall bladder disease over 25 years ago.--and it just got worse and no one thought it celiac disease because I...
  7. Just for the record...the book Recognizing Celiac Disease by Cleo Libonati, RN lists small bowel intussusception as a symptom in 16% of celiac patients. (page 148) It says a Gluten free diet prevents recurrence. Maybe this should be brought to your doctor's attention? Best wishes.
  8. Those are very different distinctions indeed. uh-oh....I mentioned earlier in this post that the gluten-free Chex were made in a "dedicated gluten-free facility" based on what another member said(a very well-informed "pro" on here told us in another post about Chex cereal --and he seems to be quite knowledgable about such things) I have a "heart flutter...
  9. Am I Blue -- Billie Holliday
  10. Mommida raises many excellent points and EE symptoms can be caused by use of tetracycline, too, I believe?? (a friend of mine had this and she had trouble swallowing food)...ask the GI if he checked you for this! (the stool testing can also check for parasites and h. Pylori--I believe) Good luck--keep pressing for an answer!
  11. Okay, you keep revealing things that are possible clues to your continuing stomach pains. I personally cannot tolerate antibiotics in my gut. It hurts like heck. YES! prolonged use of antibiotics will make for a leaky gut and gut flora imbalances. That is exactly what happened to me. They kept "treating" my diarrhea with antibiotics, suggesting I had a...
  12. OMG!! Here is the problem!!!! You are being cross-contaminated (CC) every day, hon! There is no way you will heal if you share these items with a wheat eater!!!! You have got to read about CC and stop it immediately. Whether you have an allergy, an intolerance or celiac--you will never heal with CC going on. It is just that simple--if it is a gluten issue...
  13. I think that may have been me. I send the link to that site and that book to everyone I can think of ---because when I was very ill and kept "googling" my many symptoms in a desparate attempt to figure it all out, I started to see the connection to gluten and celiac. Like Ravenwood, I had dozens of conditions (before and after gastro stuff) develop...
  14. LOL (me too!) Maybe it is not your "worst"--if it helps you RELAX! When I was really sick (pre-DX) I could not concentrate/comprehend to read my books and I was too weak and in pain to do anything strenuous (had to give up swimming, dancing, even Tai CHI!! and going to the gym )and I was really "agitated" from gluten and anxious and SEVERELY sleep-deprived...
  15. Okay, let's start over again! ARE you eating gluten at all? rye? wheat starch in prepared products? Barley? hydrolyzed wheat fillers? Because not being --as you say 100% strict--will keep the autoimmune response going and keep you ill. Trace gluten is still gluten. Did the endoscopy by the GI include biopsies? If not, there is no way in hell...
  16. Hi TamRae! It is a bit daunting at first, but you'll get the hang of it. As Sylvia says, there is a wealth of information on here and no one "gets it" quite like another who walks this path. A few good sources of info for "newbies " I found helpful were: Living Gluten Free for Dummies by Danna Korn and Celiac Disease the First Year by Jules Shepherd...
  17. gee, beebs, he messed up royally with your mother and now he wants to put you through this? IT is TIME FOR A NEW GI !!! Stick with the rhuemy (she sounds more gluten-savvy!) and have HER run the tests for connective tissue conditions---that's her specialty anyway! If she suspects celiac, and you have continuing pain (joint pain as well?) ....that's a good...
  18. I know this is an older post but I wanted to say I have experienced the same kind of pain. Even the weird scalp pain and tightness. TIGHT muscles may cause this pain. I wonder if you have had relief? I see a chiro and a massage therapist (MRIs of brain and neck was normal) --yeah, okay...but I still have all this pain, doctor! Geesh...I did tons of research...
  19. No gluten challenge necessary for genetic testing. And if your little one is also having severe constipation---I agree with TXPLOWGIRL--he may need to be gluten-free too. Recently, I read a few articles that state researchers are finding that more genes than just the so-called "celiac Genes" of HLA-DQ2 and DQ8 are also linked to gluten insensitivity...
  20. In my humble opinion, I would wait on it. GYN issues can be related to gluten for sure, but you are getting a major operation on a "maybe" and I would give the gluten-free diet some time before committing to major surgery. You are still healing. Any number of things could be causing the pain--as the previous posters have wisely suggested. I speak from...
  21. Hand Me Down My Walking Cane- Jerry Lee Lewis (among many others)
  22. It's okay--we talk about poo issues on here all the time. Goes with the territory of dealing with gluten intolerance. Yes...Chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea or alternating bowels are all associated with celiac and gluten intolerance. Try probiotics--they help balance gut flora. And lots of water. They work miracles. For the first time in...
  23. Ironic - Alanis Morrisette
  24. Yes! Gluten intolerance causes severe symptoms! I am chiming in and agreeing with Skylark, Raven and GFmanna---you do not need to put yourself through agonizing pain for a "firm" diagnosis. I had the same excruciating pain from gluten and wouldn't do it again for any further testing either. In fact, my PC doctor said..."why should we?---tests are often...
