  1. Your pain patterns sound a bit like mine. Weak muscles and loss of muscle tone can cause those headaches, back ache, fatigue. I see a Physical therapist, a chiro and a massage therapist right now. I would at least go for a consult--why not? Tell him/her you have celiac and some continuing neurological symptoms. Maybe you can get some answers. Best wishes...
  2. Congrats on quitting smoking. Good for you! I guess you don't need the gentle reminder to quit ALL gluten first before you start making yourself crazy looking at other foods? Okay, then, I won't nag you!! Hope you feel better soon!
  3. I felt the same way. The chronic pain/illness/lack of appetite curtailed my cooking/baking for sure. I used to enjoy all kinds of creative cooking/baking before I got sick. We started making our own bread when I was DXed--Poor Hubby worked hard to perfect that loaf....while it is "okay", it will never be "squishy" Perhaps it WILL forever be a mystery...
  4. My Florida friend often sticks her tongue out at me on Skype as she is in her tank top and I am wrapped in a blanket with a fire raging in the wood stove all winter. I used to visit her in August and that stiffling heat never bothered me. When we went down there in the winter, I swam in the gulf and the people thought me insane--it was "too cold" for them...
  5. I just checked outside to report to you guys....it is 75 right now at 9 PM but it is nice ...Windows wide open!! Hubby will want the AC on, but I prefer the breeze and overhead fan. We live in the country and the tree frogs are noisy tonight and the fireflies are flitting all around...pretty cool! My cat is trying to catch them I already shooed her away...
  6. I itched like mad and had small red sores on my scalp, face, forehead, but it was not DH. I used all the stuff you mention here, too with no luck. Creamed myself silly. My legs and feet itched and I had split cracked heels. My scalp was one big rash ---red and it Peeled!! My hair fell out. It was ugly. All better since I went gluten-free. Except...
  7. It was 93 here today in NY--and I think I may be in the minority here, but I LOVE it My joint pain does not seem to be any worse or better no matter what the temperature. My siblings etc..we are all beach babies...bake and then, swim like fish in cold New England water...no problem. ...except hub--Pure Irish-- and he would fry like bacon out...
  8. Hi JudyinPhillynow Calif I am a bit confused...you've been gluten-free for over 5 years, yet your new GI says it is NOT celiac? How did he test you accurately -- if you are gluten-free??
  9. Also, the "rock" in my throat has disappeared as well. We sure have some strange symptoms from celiac disease don't we??
  10. Jenn makes a good point about checking with your doctor or an allergist maybe? I do not believe you can be "allergic" to gluten --but you can be allergic to wheat, of course. But if you no longer ingesting wheat/gluten, that's not what's causing it. You could have allergy testing done to rule out what may be causing the reaction or see an ear...
  11. I second the sweet potatoes!! They are loaded with vitamin A (and antioxidants which we celiacs absolutely need!) and are good carbs for sugar metabolism. (I never knew any of this before my diagnosis and sometimes when I write this stuff, I am amazed at what I have learned.) Just bake them in their jackets in the oven---pierce with a few holes and put...
  12. yes! I had a constant "clogged, sore throat", difficulty swallowing, and shortness of breath. Even my ribs feel sore and compressed. I had posture issues, too and now that my back/neck muscles are not so weak from malnutrition, I can stand a bit straighter. I had to stop working out at the gym and swimming--even walking the length of my driveway seems...
  13. I would suggest coffee is a major gut irritant for those of us with leaky guts. (I know ..I hated giving that up too) and the dairy is likely a problem as well. (sorry) Lactase, which is the enzyme that breaks down the sugar lactose, is produced in the tip of the villi. When the villi get blunted in celiac disease, sometimes the ability to digest lactose...
  14. I never ate grits before (I was always a oatmeal girl), so they are new for me. I don't do dairy either and so, I just followed someone's suggestion about maple syrup. They taste pretty yummy!
  15. You are not a moron! You had a momentary lapse in judgment! Who doesn't have those? Sorry you are not feeling well and I hope you recover soon. I am thinking you will not do this again. Be good to yourself. Don't beat yourself up over it. I have to agree with Ravenwood about talking about this with your new boyfriend so you two can choose better...
  16. gluten-free corn grits with a tiny bit of maple syrup.
  17. And..I meant to say...best wishes in your recovery of good health. You had a long road to get here, but now, you will feel better and better!! My story is long and gruesome (dozens of awful symptoms)..and for the first time, I see myself getting well. yaay! Here's to good health!
  18. naw....I am the lucky one--he's been extraordinary throughout my long baffling illness (pre-diagnosis)!A real sweetie. Hope you find one that tastes good to you! Cheers!
  19. I hope to go home to Boston this summer! Can you give me the name of the restaurant please? Thanks!
  20. yeah... Guinness is a tough one to give up..sigh... My guy likes the Bard's or New Grist and Green's --that one's expensive!) He also likes LongBow cider and Wood Chuck. He is not gluten-intolerant or a celiac but went gluten-free for me. I think he only misses the beer. He is rewarded frequently for his sacrifice. ETA:I am a bit of a gourmet...
  21. Thanks to you and Peter for clearing up the soybean oil thing for me...I had no idea they could "get around" the labeling law that way! I think I am still irritated about that!! I saw that UDI's came out with burger and hot dog buns, too...but cannot find them. If you do find them (online somewhere), will you give us a heads up please? and P.S...
  22. and yet, illogically...no, we have not!  still working on that perfect loaf of bread...HA! never gonna happen...
