  1. And that is EXACTLY the gluten landmine we walk whenever we trust a gluten-free label or a gluten-free menu. Unless a food is INHERENTLY gluten-free i.e. a plain fresh carrot, a plain chicken breast...you never know. I suspect there is no such thing as 100% gluten-free. Unless you live in a bubble. We can only do the best we can to safeguard ourselves...
  2. I agree completely!!! I only take the ones I need too, based on what's deficient in me (Folic acid (B9), D-3, cal/ mag-for osteopenia, and an anti-oxidant formula for E,C and A) I took so many supplements during the last 3 years, on advice from others, and think it made me feel WORSE! My gut wasn't absorbing anything anyway. I might as well have lit...
  3. that's interesting!...what do you think is the problem with Vitamin A for you? just makes you feel ill? I am just curious as I too have to be cautious with what I take...and I researched Pioneer brand to make sure it was okay for me. You've got me thinking now....
  4. Vit E "mixed tocopherols" are often derived from SOYBEAN OIL, so it needs to state they are SOY -free for me as well.
  5. If we do come your way, you KNOW I will tell you! I would love to meet you--after all the chats we have had! I'll check out their menu! thanks!
  6. Wow--you guys have LOTS of options out there!!...maybe hubby and I should take a weekend in "Upstate Western NY" this Fall .. Okay, fellow soy-avoiders...what reliable dish CAN I have at PF Changs?--there is one in the area and when I am feeling ready, I'll try it!
  7. (chuckling) yeah, anyone not in NYC or Long Island is "upstate" I guess:lol: ...Well, you are "western NY to me" and I am in "Eastern NY" near Vermont. Yes, about 1/2 hour from Saratoga! The place is called Sherry Lynn's in Latham, NY. Food is GREAT! And she is a wealth of information and encouragement.(yup, she is a celiac who had a struggle to get...
  8. [quote name='chamomilelover' timestamp='1304456046' post='69664. Could the dressing be an issue? I'm fine with udi's (have it all the time, and soy is fine too).
  9. Interesting point! I think this is also why the owner of the completely gluten free restaurant/bakery near us (in upstate NY) INSISTS that no one bring ANYTHING (food, drink) into the place to avoid CC. Deliveries to her store are brought around back where the boxes are wiped down before they are brought in. Employees are educated on gluten and celiac. Extreme...
  10. Sure sounds like it!...that reaction is pretty much what many of us feel. Stick with the gluten-free diet and continue to feel well! P.S. I tested negative 3 times. Yet, I have the genes linked to gluten sensitivity and celiac...so much for tests...
  11. thanks, my meaty friend!! You and I know how much our struggle has cost us, but we both are on our way to good health! thanks for the many chats and encouragement!
  12. Right back at ya, Chill! I know you have struggled to get answers as well. Yeah, I am giddy and crying at the same time! Sadly, I never carried to term (I tried many times)and even fertility treatment failed. They did not test for celiac back in the 90's as they do now when there are so many miscarriages. I mostly did this for my siblings and their...
  13. First of all, I apologize--I must have missed somehow that you got your diagnosis, chill!! That's great news...right!? I am happy for YOUR validation! Feeling better?? Second, I have already had resistance from some...but perhaps, they will see the light. We can only try. THEY are the real reason I did the test. For them, their children and grandchildren...
  14. Enjoy--and you're doing good work with that group! They are lucky to have you running it. Hey, no cheesecake this time
  15. Hi you! Well, I am so glad you figured that bugger out! You were doing so well and now, you can resume that upswing!! YYAAAAYY!! Spring come yet up there? How's the support group going!? hugs, IH
  16. Anything's possible, I think. I brought almost all my own food to my sister's house for Christmas and only used one of her microwave containers, the micro, a plate, some of her squeeze gluten-free mustard, some gluten-free ham she made plain just for me (although bro-in-law did carve it with one of their knives--but in an aluminum pan, not the cutting board...
  17. I just want to thank all of you for your incredible support, encouragement, advice and friendship for the last 4 months. You may never know how much it has helped to validate me and my long struggle for answers to a long, perplexing health nightmare, but it has been invaluable. I am so grateful for this forum and the wealth of information it provides. No...
  18. Dee, Don't be sorry about venting your anger!! WE GET IT!! I had so much pent up rage about doctors not helping me and I let it out finally and I feel a LOT better! Vent to me anytime you want to! I know exactly how you feel. I used to scream and cry (before going gluten-free and stopping the diarrhea and weight loss) that "I'll be dead before they...
  19. Makes sense to me! I knew Raven could help us clarify things. Just try adding one vitamin back in at a time --wait a week in between---and see how you do. Sometimes, too many supps/vits at once can complicate the method of isolating what's causing what. Good luck, hon!
  20. good luck with finals!--go easy on the gluten, it gobs up the brain
  21. I am not sure. Perhaps someone with more knowledge regarding testing would be able to answer this question for you.
  22. Wow! I cannot imagine my parents or siblings saying anything like that to me or having anyone exclude me from family events. That's just cruel and you do not deserve to be treated that way. You don't have a contagious disease for pete's sake. Sorry, hon--I imagine it hurts your feelings very much! Yes, I am glad you have a supportive loving husband and...
  23. Sorry, Pete. I know you were hoping for confirmation. Like Ravenwood, I tested NEG and I was sick as a dog for years...a lot of us test NEG ...and there is growing evidence that the test is not reliable enough, especially if you are IGA deficient or if the lab messed up or, or, or.... My doctor thinks the percentage is higher than the estimated false neg...
  24. Nope, you are not the only one! I have deficiencies & osteopenia too and need to take them as well. Okay, let's figure this out...step by step. My first thought was the fish oil. Do you have a problem with fish? I had to hunt around and find ones that do not bother me. I found that some of the gummy ones have all kinds of sugars and...
  25. You're welcome...Pm me if you want to talk more...I think we just Hijacked this thread...sorry, OP!!
