  1. Awesome!!!!....Gluten is our krytonite...LOVE IT...Can I borrow this, Kate??? Before I knew what was killing me slowly, I told my sister, "I know this sounds paranoid, but I feel like someone is poisoning me somehow..." Kryptonite indeed
  2. At one point, (before DX) when I was doing a serious elimination diet for nearly a year and dwindling down to nothing, and I could NOT figure out what was making me so ill, my husband worried that I would have nothing left to eat but" water and driveway rocks.." it was not funny at all, but we laughed because we were totally baffled...turns out, it...
  3. I just want to clarify what I meant... Those products may well be gluten-free, as indicated. If not, try to choose a yogurt that is definitely gluten-free, like chobani. You eliminate gluten, and you feel better, but if you do not eliminate dairy, and dairy is a problem, you will continue to have digestive issues. Take them BOTH out for...
  4. You want to be consuming gluten when you get tested, so don't go off it yet!! Even if the tests come back negative, they are often false negative (mine was) Here is a link to a list of over 300 symptoms and conditions associated with celiac disease. Open Original Shared Link If I were you, I would print it, circle every single symptom you...
  5. The problem may not be gluten, but the lactose in the DAIRY! You should eliminate dairy and see if you improve. Lactase, which is the enzyme that breaks down the sugar lactose, is produced in the tip of the villi. When the villi get blunted in celiac disease, sometimes the ability to digest lactose is decreased and you can become lactose intolerant...
  6. Some that appear often are: CC means cross contamination (the product did not contain wheat or gluten but may have been contaminated by them) "D" means diarrhea "C" means constipation... sorry, but you asked IMHO = in my humble opinion any others you aren't sure of??
  7. Soy (like dairy) is often a secondary intolerance to gluten, aside from it also affecting estrogen levels--which may account for your feelings of fatigue, depression still lingering? I have read a lot about soy and do not see it as a very healthy food at all. Dump it for a month and see! IMHO and hooray for your healing "cracked heels" (mine are...
  8. Amen, sister!!
  9. First, happy birthday! Second, you ARE a strong woman! Give yourself a break--this is not an easy adjustment--it is a major life-changer. It takes courage to live with so many challenges! My sister has said similar things to me and she says them, I think, only because she is trying to make me feel better and she is frustrated FOR me as I have been...
  10. Since gluten intolerance can cause a variety of problems, it is hard to say your back pain and other issues are NOT gluten-related. They MAY be. I have awful back pain and abdominal muscle pain and they certainly ARE related to many years of digestive/bowel issues. Doctors often say two seemingly unrelated problems are not connected because they SYMPTOM...
  11. me too! Racy and wide awake... I have had insomnia for most of my life. (now, I know why!!) I STILL have not found anything to help me sleep (prescription or herbal)...but I did want to re-post and say that I can get to sleep now and most nights, I can go back to sleep if I wake up. I do get more than the 1 or 2 I was getting...some night -- ZERO...
  12. Oh no! Sorry to hear this, hon! That stinks!!! Hope you feel better soon! I wonder...perhaps your tummy just doesn't like walnuts? (I see you posed earlier the brazil nuts were not agreeing with you, either) They have a certified, dedicated line, from what I understand?! I'd like to think a major company like that wouldn't lie.... (I am being a teensy...
  13. DEE! Read this post from today...! maybe it applies to you? How are you feeling??
  14. I am so very happy for you that you have an ANSWER to your persistent D. This is Fantastic!! That is interesting that your food intolerances are less. It was very good of you to post this information because there are MANY who still suffer chronic D and maybe this will be an answer for them as well! In fact, I know one who has been suffering...
  15. amen to that, sister!!
  16. The endoscopy without a biopsy won't tell you much either. Hope he/she did that while down there (mine did NOT--what an idiot) I wouldn't wait a MONTH to know what happened...give the office a call. I had "IBS" and "acid reflux" for 20 years too....those are SYMPTOMS--and usually of celiac. Lived on antacids, zantac, Immodium, etc. Hope you get...
  17. Actually many people already suffer the many effects of gluten, but they just don't know their fatigue, depression, eczema, anxiety, insomnia, "IBS" or joint and muscle pain, etc. is related to gluten intolerance. (there are over 300 symptoms/other conditions associated with it). They are just "unwell" and symptom-treated and given drugs for insomnia or...
  18. hmm....maybe all the "tired" college kids are gluten intolerant...all that pizza, subs and beer....no one your age should go from active and fit to being that tired. I nose-dived in health that way myself, although I am a lot older than you are, but it still made no sense!! I see a lot of guys and girls your age on here, kiddo!! Make sure you...
  19. (chuckling) Yes, I understand!!....I was HAPPY to know I had celiac. I was so sick and in pain for so long...and for me, it was proof I wasn't insane and a total relief!! Are you waiting because they wish to do a biopsy as well??
  20. I think that Raven and Edo said everything I would have offered, but I would also add...often, B-12 and low folate are the reason for anemia in people with celiac and just supplementing with iron pills will do nothing more than make for some pretty hard stools and constipation. These levels should be tested. They are often the culprit in depression and fatigue...
  21. I think you are absolutely correct!!! And the sooner people "get it", the sooner they will resolve most of their health problems. My cousin and I said "there needs to be a gluten revolution". Right now, though, many people think WE are in the minority. They think this is a "fad" or "an allergy". I try to educate those in my life, but they...
  22. I agree with Quincy! Just say No thanks!!...and know you are going to get well. I'm 4 months in and see a HUGE difference. I was in agony..I had nausea, pain and burning from my mouth to my other end.....(Yeah, anxiety too) the whole GI tract was inflamed and I couldn't eat or drink anything--not even water--- without pain and bathroom episodes. Now,...
  23. Cannot add anything more to the "shrooms" answer except to say..My doctor feels there is almost a 40% false neg rate (not sure where he got that data) but in any case, it happens a lot!! He was really upset about it and said there needs to be a better test....many us of agree! For most, the Proof is in the healing!! Best wishes, Pete...great name by...
  24. Funny you should ask ....I was so anxious and depressed (and did not know why) before DX and my heart was racing out of my chest and skipping beats but my EKG was normal, so I reluctantly went to a psychiatrist at my PCP's suggestion as he did not know what to do for me anymore and I was so ill and deteriorating and in chronic pain . He convinced me it was...
  25. I can answer question number 1. Lactase, which is the enzyme that breaks down the sugar lactose, is produced in the tip of the villi. When the villi get blunted in celiac disease, sometimes the ability to digest lactose is decreased and you can become lactose intolerant. This secondary intolerance may well be temporary but will cause bloating, stomach...
