  1. You raise an excellent point, Ms. Jam!
  2. It IS very frustarting. I hear ya, kiddo. Unfortunately, we all feel that way. There is no handbook although I am considering writing one.
  3. PS..The dermatologist may give you stuff for the sores AND be able to suggest the right lotion, makeup perhaps...if she/he is gluten-savvy.
  4. You're welcome. I made a lot of mistakes the first 2 months. Shake it off! It's okay!! You'll appreciate this. Hubby went gluten-free with me after the first few months because he felt I was getting CCed even though we were very careful. And BTW, I did notice I stopped feeling as bad when NO gluteny products were coming in the house for his use...
  5. Still searching for this answer, are you? Yes, you can be glutened at any time. Or you are in withdrawal. My first two months were wonky. Yes, it can feel pretty bad for a few days if you are accidentally glutened. Mine last a week--extreme fatigue, fog head, spaced out, stomach burning, grouchy, constipated and no sleep. Whatever you do...
  6. I agree with you about the "firm diagnosis"...My PC doctor and I agree...if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck....it's a damn duck!! I hope you get answers. I am glad you are in good hands now. Maybe your PC doc--like mine--just needs to be "educated" (by you) about celiac. My guy's own children have celiac, yet he was not aware of how...
  7. Unfortunately, there is no handbook for this. The doctors just say No gluten...but there is waaay more to it than that! The only real help we have is others who walk this same path. These people are the best! I also have a relative with it and a nearby gluten-free cafe whose owner has been incredibly helpful to me. AVEENO has oats--which are often cross...
  8. I should have said something about the soy, too...good pick up, Raven! I was going to use those drinks when I was really sick and saw they ALL contain that. Soy causes all kinds of trouble. I do not know why they have to put that in every darn thing. It's just like wheat filler--in everything. As for the quote, my sweet hubby put that on the fridge one...
  9. WHEW!! I was so hoping she would not do that to you! I am going to have the gene test done too because there is no way in hell I am eating it for a biopsy. My GI doc went down there in 2009 and NEVER did the biopsy--I know, what an idiot!! The gene test is non-invasive and it is not really a diagnostic tool, they tell me, but more of an exclusionary test...
  10. Yup---you need to have him brush. Don't swig from a bottle of his either. Gluten is a sneaky bugger!! My hubby has a fluffy beard and crumbs settle there and he drank beer and we never gave it a thought about the smooching, we were extra careful about his food prep, separate toaster, etc,,,but I was getting glutened somehow, ...soooo, he went gluten...
  11. aw, honey...of course you can cry...I'm sorry you are dealing with this!! wish I could help more....(((hugs)))
  12. FANTASTIC!! She IS a keeper!!! I am very happy for you, chill. :D Please, please make sure she checks your B-12 and FOLATE levels???? this is a MAJOR issue in celiac disease and kept me from feeling any better. BTW, this happened to me too. I was gluten-free for 5 weeks when the functional med doc I consulted did the IgG test and he said it would...
  13. Thank you! We do have her on B & G wet food and minimal B &G dry...which is gluten free. As I said, the treats were in an old jar we had for our now-deceased cat (and it was purchased pre-diagnosis for me)otherwise, I would have been more careful before purchasing them. I know some people think it is extreme to do the gluten-free cat food...
  14. That was FUN!!! I did the US one with 3 minutes to spare..whew!! Geesh, I almost forgot Kentucky and Utah ....thanks for posting this!! ya know...last year, I probably would have blanked out on these things--hooray for getting brain power back!!
  15. Not at all cheesy--I think it's Great!! Good for you!! Glad you are feeling better. Could have been any number of factors. This is a rocky road we travel at first, getting the gut healed, but so many people assure me things will level off and we'll feel better . It is what I focus on. Stay well!
  16. Maybe I'll do some reading on it myself. I'm not wild about all the chemicals in the citrucel anyway. I have only used it in times of despair Thanks for raising the topic in the first place. Hope it resolves your problem.
  17. It's hard to see, but is that a medal around your neck?? If so, please tell me about it!!
  18. The blood work may reveal something. You'll probably have to have the thyroid meds adjusted a few times as your gut heals, yes? I understand that the gut has trouble absorbing while so damaged and that supplements are not readily absorbed (my doctor says the same thing) and yet, my B-12 went up with sublingual tablets and he gave me prescription folic...
  19. Really? ..well, of course I want ZERO gluten! I am just confused because there is nothing added to plain psyllium fiber ?? are you saying there is a CC issue? and the Citrucel is specifically listed in the book by Dr. Matison called Gluten/Casein/Soy Free Shopping Guide. I have read the product ingredients several times and see nothing there that...
  20. My vet was dead set against those because they break off and lodge sideways in the dog's throat or pierce the stomach lining.... the soft chewier things are better for them... just sharing... but nope. no gluten!
  21. As you probably know, soluble fiber is found in fruits and veggies-- and commercially produced supplements for those of us who went from living with chronic D to the C. arrgh, right??!! Citrucel, (not the sugar-free version, though because that has aspartame in it ) is gluten-free, soy free and dairy free. Also, plain psyllium works well. Make...
  22. PLEASE have your B-12 and FOLATE levels checked. These forms of anemia are VERY common in celiac due to malabsorption and cause the symptoms you describe, esp. the depression and fatigue. I had them tested because I am still fatigued and depressed after being totally gluten-free and found my FOLATE level was low and need supplementation. (Even though...
  23. Well, kiddo..it COULD be lots of things. Etta is right. Everyone reacts differently. Yes, when I am glutened by accident, I feel this same way.... like I have been drugged and I am spacey, exhausted and then, I feel agitated and cannot sleep. Then, I have the big C for a day or two....and an urge to pee all the time because the bowels are so swollen...
  24. Well, I sure had fun doing this Middle Eastern map..thanks, "Mom"!! I put in Armenia, since my grandparents came from there, and the big countries I knew, for sure first...then had to struggle a bit, but can proudly say I did it in about 4- 5 minutes...yippee for me!! ....as for the US, I probably would have a struggle with the states in the middle...
  25. NEWBIE! YOU STATED: "I just don't want to be crippled and in pain..." Well, I'm going to be frank with you because that is exactly where you are headed. You cannot imagine the debilitating pain and illness you will most surely develop if you do not adhere to a strict gluten free diet. My life is HELL right now --and has been for over 3 years--as I...
