  1. The fevers stump me, Lisa. To be suddenly feverish...and then, not?? hmm... I read that most celiacs --especially those with thyroid issues---run low average temps. My "normal" temp is sometimes 95 or 96...weird, huh?... If it spikes to 98 or 99, I've got a fever!! Don't be afraid of the capsule endoscopy....it's not a biggie. My Dad did it and...
  2. You bet I can relate to your story....I heard all the same rap..."IBS", "fibromyalgia"....you can't have celiac, you're overweight!! snide comments... (yup. I WAS fat and alternated between constipation and diarrhea...but I lost 90 lbs. rapidly and with it, my hair, my muscle mass, my ability to sleep and think and, and, and....just to name a few things....
  3. Hi Katrala, POSITIVE for celiac via blood testing means you definitely have to avoid gluten for life-long good health. You probably know this, but regardless of what the biopsy results are, there's no question you need to be gluten-free. It seems bewildering at first, and you may be scared, mad, sad...a whole slew of emotions. (Many of us...
  4. Oh Lisa, I'm sorry you're having more symptoms and no answers. You were doing so well. My Dad had the capsule endoscopy years ago and it was painless, as I recall...swallow it and it goes through your GI tract...takes pictures...and it goes out the other end....no worries!! I had the small bowel follow through and CT scan series--also painless....
  5. You're preaching to the choir, my friend Gemini....heads in the sand. I worry my sister will soon be suffering kidney disease--on top of the other diseases--or heart disease, as she is very overweight. She says "I don't have bowel issues like you!" and for her, that means she does not have celiac! And yes, because she is obese, her doctor does not think...
  6. Hooray for you--that is awesome!! and thanks for posting! Gives me great hope! Every time someone tells me this pain goes away or lessens, I am encouraged!!
  7. Hi Diane! Thanks for posting this article! Mushroom posted the link to the petition and letter campaign last week.I signed it and sent it to everyone I know. This article helps drive it home...the link at the bottom brings you to the petition. WE ALL NEED TO SIGN THE PETITION AND THE LETTER AND FORWARD IT TO OTHERS.....more voices, more...
  8. My B-12 read >2000 at one point back in 2010, and I was deathly ill with this thing at the time. I had been taking B-12 sublingually since 2007 for B-12 deficiency anemia. (long before celiac was DXed) I have to think that MAILE is correct---the levels "look" good because of supplementation, or it is circulating in the blood, because I sure as heck...
  9. I suspect just going gluten free is not the cure, for sure. If only! That would make this easier, wouldn't it. I have been evaluated by a TMJ and facial pain specialist and he said it is "possible" the inflammation is a contributor to the muscle and joint pain, as well as the stress of being ill (for many years) and not knowing why, as well as neck...
  10. I find it (sadly) reassuring that so many of us DO have these "seemingly" random symptoms---as it validates me and makes sense of years of horrible symptoms that doctors passed off to "stress"....WHY do you THINK I am stressed, doc??? 'Cause I feel like crap and I am in pain and you think all these symptoms are not connected and I am left feeling like a nutjob...
  11. In my humble opinion, I am surrounded by dairy farms and their cows are treated extremely well. The farmers are good to them In India, the cow is revered and ghee is sacred food...Not all cows are treated poorly.... Soy is one of the worst foods you can eat, but you probably don't want to hear about that...so, I'll not give you my two cents. Most...
  12. Hi Brigit! Good hubby indeed! My big guy went gluten-free with me, of his own accord-- and he feels great. He even gave up his beloved Guinness. He knows how to read labels and grocery shops for us...and he makes awesome gluten-free bread. Took him 4 months, but it's the perfect loaf now he lost the last 10 lbs. he had been trying to lose...
  13. DITTO...no problems and tasty enough!
  14. These symptoms can all be related to celiac. Heck, I've got so many bizarre symptoms, I believe anything. I have severe muscle/joint/bone pain, so I can commiserate. I feel like I'm 100 years old. Many people report these issues resolve after being gluten-free for several months. Rashes, itchy skin, eye problems (swollen, itchy, blurry), tinnitis...
  15. You can use Ghee!!! It's butter fat, not lactose or casein so you should be safe. I use it without any trouble. You can buy it, or if $$ is tight, make it. Google 'making ghee"---it involves heating the butter at a certain temp and pace to get down to the fat. I did it---easy as pie....oh man, pie ....I remember pie wouldn't we all love some pie...
  16. Bummer....was it a "fun size" snickers bar by any chance? Not that I eat them, but someone else was wondering about those... Hope you feel better soon!! And wow!...To go so long without an accidental glutening is remarkable!! Good for you. You'll be back on track in no time, no doubt. I am familiar with that "flaming brillo pad" working its way...
  17. We use Merrick Before Grain. No more itching and sneezing for me when I open cans and the bag of dry and the cat's coat, poop and whole attitude....just beautiful. We read a bunch of info on no-grain cat food and the vet said it is much better for them...so, now, it is gluten free for us, and gluten-free for the cat. it's a win-win
  18. It sure sounds like some classic celiac symptoms. A bloated belly on your small frame is not "normal". I know; I had one too. You are wise to see a doctor, especially if you are so fatigued. It could be anemia--common in celiacs. And yes, lactose intolerance often accompanies gluten intolerance. Many of us have to give up dairy until our guts...
  19. I react to soy too, just like gluten. I recently read that the two most common intolerances secondary to gluten in celiacs are...lactose and soybean. Many people can tolerate them again after the villi are healed. Why you are reacting to the soya spread and not the milk is a mystery, unless it just depends on the AMOUNT of soy, or whether...
  20. Yes, there is a connection between diabetes and celiac. Celiac is associated with many autoimmune diseases. I have been trying to convince my sister to be tested as she has both type 1 diabetes and is hypothyroid, but she won't do it. I applaud your doctor for making the connection between diabetes and celiac, but agree with Ravenwood that you...
  21. Shroom! Thank you for posting this. I signed, sent and then, spread the word to my email list. Let's hope we are heard! IH
  22. Oh hon, sorry! I think you just flooded yourself with too much of a "good thing" that you haven't eaten in a while. Your body is so clean. Either the sugar cane juice or the cocoa was too much and made you jittery. (I have felt this way after those chocolate chips myself and have decided I need to wait a few more months for chocolatey goodness.) ...
  23. soul sisters indeed hang in there, ada. You're going to be okay. um...Nothing else in the house with hidden gluten, right??? ((hugs))
  24. I am so sorry you are still having these symptoms. That IS a long time to feel bad after only a few crumbs. I am always hearing that CC happens, even if you are careful --in a home that is not 100% gluten-free. I wish I knew what to say to help. Your symptoms are so much like mine (from the nerve and joint pain right down to the burning mouth) so...
  25. You are correct, Burdee! thanks for pointing that out...he did indeed run a CMP (complete metabolic panel) as well as the CBC. I should have stated that more clearly in my post. Sorry. Apparently, that test is equally important as those levels (cal, sodium, potassium) are often affected by celiac as well?
