  1. My dietitian never told me to replace my cookware and said it should be safe with regular cleaning. I *did* buy some stainless steel stuff because my non-stick stuff was scratched up, and I really don't like/trust non-stick surfaces.
  2. You make a good point GuyC. I also have a dual kitchen with lots of cross-contamination potential. Even today, I had to make jelly sandwiches for the kids on whole wheat bread.
  3. From what I'm seeing, there are claims that the lines are cleaned, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not. I just started this diet and was looking forward to having some Easter treats, but I don't want to chance it if it could make me sick.
  4. I have been under the impression that I should avoid ALL gluten - not just what is listed on the label - but also foods that may contain gluten by being produced on lines that also produce gluten-containing foods. Yet, while researching Easter candy, I see most of the candies listed in the gluten-free lists are made on shared lines. Do people with celiac...
  5. Soooooo..... Do you all eat things that are made on shared lines? Looks to me like there's little to be had in the Easter Basket.
  6. I was panicky too. But I just started out taking it one shelf at a time. I saved the hardest ones for last! It did take up most of a weekend though. And I had a big pile of stuff that I ended up giving away to a friend (flours, soups, marinades, soy sauce, oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc.). Stuff I knew we wouldn't eat. I had to get rid of the flours because...
  7. We have a mixed kitchen in our house, and I'm the only one who is gluten-free. I spent a weekend basically cleaning out the entire kitchen of things I knew we wouldn't use anymore: gluten-filled marinades, flours, etc. Anything that has gluten that the kids or DH eat or use are on the lower shelves and my gluten-free stuff is on upper shelves. I was sure...
  8. Unfortunately, I get this ALL THE TIME, except I smell chocolate chip cookies or dough. It's a sweet smell. This ONLY started for me since going gluten-free, and it hasn't relented since. Of course, it's only been a month, so hopefully, it'll go away soon. I'd sure appreciate it.
  9. I've had to stop myself from licking my fingers on numerous occasions. Habits like that are so hard to break. I'm just washing my hands an awful lot nowadays. I'm guessing that it's just something you have to ride out. Man, I wish there were a way to reverse the consequences somehow. But with autoimmune, I think there is little anyone can do. Hopefully...
  10. So sorry you are dealing with that!! I'm assuming it just didn't occur to you until after you did it. I actually have nightmares of eating something I shouldn't and then trying to do everything I can to get it back out.

    ARCHIVED Overwhelmed.

Hi. Please know that I'm not saying this to minimize your feelings or disregard them in any way. I am just saying that there might be a light at the end of the tunnel you are in right now. I *just* went through all of what you are going through mentally right now. And you know what did it? GETTING GLUTENED! I was effing miserable and angry and depressed...
  12. Wow! You have a good memory. I look forward to the day where it might seem that I actually have a brain! My memory stinks so much that it's the butt of many jokes. As for the oreo, I have a "better than oreo" gluten-free recipe that I hope lives up to its name. Won't be making them any time soon - I've got weight to lose first! Thank you...
  13. Damn, if only I had known, I would have eaten the stupid oreo cookie that was calling my name. In for a dime, in for a dollar, right? Seriously, though, I'm glad it happened. I needed the extra motivation, and it gives me more purpose in being vigilant with this diet because I have to admit I wasn't fully convinced that I had celiac (despite the...
  14. I'm not sure. I know my first three days were HORRIBLE. And, really, the first week. But I did a MAJOR diet overhaul. Not only did I get rid of gluten, I got rid of most of my refined sugars and carbs. I stuck mostly to fruits, veggies, rice, and meat. I had some major withdrawal issues, but I think it really had more to do with the sugars and carbs...
  15. Well, I WIPED them off! with a wet wipe. Next time, I'll be keeping my water bottle completely separate. So used to sharing that I didn't think much about it until I saw the globs of wet chewed up cracker.
  16. As you know, I just had the EXACT same thing happen to me. It lasted about 4 days. I noticed the effects the evening after my lunch glutening. The following 3 days were horrible. So horrible, I sought help from my PCP and considered seeing a therapist for my depression. Then, on day 5 I woke up feeling normal again. I still don't know if it was...
  17. I wish I had the answer to this. My food bill is probably about twice what it used to be. I used to get frozen chicken at a discount grocery store, but there's broth injected into the chicken and I never heard back about the status of it being gluten free. So, now I pay more for the chicken at our big name grocery store. I'm eating more fresh fruits and...
  18. Yeah, still searching. I guess I just want to know if it was due to being glutened or just the ups and downs of the new diet. I don't know if you can see the effects of it so soon after starting a diet, and there doesn't seem to be much int he way of answers here. It was just so intense. I woke up fine yesterday and feel fine today. So, whatever it was...
  19. I was only on the diet for 3 weeks when I suddenly felt EXTREMELY fatigued. Then, incredibly depressed. I called my doctor to get her to give me some stimulants (she only adjusted my thyroid meds). My other doc did some tests to determine my B12, iron, and other levels. I was so desperate for some energy. No amount of sleep helped. I woke up after...
  20. LOL! Yes, it is! I completed the Couch to 5K program last summer. I was a verified card-holding couch potato with absolutely NO DESIRE to run. In fact, you could say I was adamantly against it. I don't know what bug crawled up there, but suddenly I got myself another couch potato partner and started the program. I went from not even being able to walk...
  21. Since I prefer the cookie dough to the cookie, how does the dough taste?
  22. My pcp upped the thyroid, but my hepatologist (who I saw yesterday) ran some bloodtests for iron and b12 and some other stuff. I should know by next week what those levels are. He did forewarn me that if celiac is causing malabsorption, supplements may not work since I still will have difficulty taking up nutrients if the villi are damaged. I'm assuming...
  23. For the record, I've only been on the diet for 3.5 weeks, and if this is a glutening, then it will be my first. So, I'm not sure what I should expect.
  24. Since at least Tuesday evening, I have been SO FATIGUED and irritable. Wednesday was so bad that I went to the doctor on Thursday asking for stimulants to help me with my fatigue. Instead, she adjusted my thyroid meds. I have been getting 8 hours of sleep, though I have been waking between 2-4 times at night (for no reason) and can't get back to sleep...
  25. Do you have ANY idea how alarming that sounds? This is the CLASSIC foundation of abuse. You may not recognize it now, but I'd be surprised if there was even one person on here that doesn't hear the alarm bells ringing. This sounds like a toxic relationship and honestly, I don't know why you'd give him another chance to treat you that way. Because...
