  1. I've got a pretty bad mold allergy, so mine's worse in the fall. I don't like traditional antihistamines, but I've had really good luck with some herbal remedies: freeze dried nettles (a natural antihistamine) and querecetin. Both available at Whole Foods and gluten free. They don't work quite as well as benedryl or something like that - but they also...
  2. Nearly all the Lettuce Entertain you restaurants have gluten free menus - Wildfire, Magianos, Big Bowl, Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba, etc. You can find them all here: Open Original Shared Link Most of them are pretty extensive, and I've eaten at several and always had good luck!
  3. My skin is softer and my hair is thicker and shinier since going gluten free. Hope you continue to improve!
  4. It sounds to me to be similar to those de-sensitizing trials they do with some peanut allergy sufferers. They give the patient a minute amount of peanut, and gradually up the dosage until the body is used to it and more and more can be tolerated. With this, it sounds like they've found a way to gradually de-sensitize patients to gluten. From the article...
  5. Five Guys, too - the only thing with gluten is the bun, so they'll serve your burger wrapped in lettuce instead. And the fries are safe, since they don't use the deep fryers for anything else.
  6. About 30% of the U.S. population has at least one of the genes for celiac, but very few of them ever develop it. That said, if they're showing bloating and other issues - and since you have it - they should get fully tested. They could also be gluten intolerant, which can happen whether you've got celiac genes or not.

    ARCHIVED P90X

I just started the P90X Lean program yesterday and was wondering if anyone had tried it and whether it had worked very well. I've been exercising fairly regularly for about a year and a half - mostly cardio w/some light weights and yoga thrown in. I think I'll be able to manage the exercise portion ok, but I'm wondering about the dietary advice. Are...
  8. I read that Butterfinger candy bars are gluten free as of 2010. I'm afraid you're still out of luck on the oreos
  9. Some people react, some don't. For me, when it's stated on the product (which I don't believe the company is required to do) I avoid shared lines. But shared facilities don't seem to be an issue for me, so I eat that without worrying.
  10. I did gluten free in Belgium this winter for work, and I did alright. Lots of grilled and steamed seafood options - and you can get a grilled steak w/fries and salad anywhere. Since they don't eat things like onion rings, fried chicken and cheese sticks, their fries are pretty safe from cc. Many people speak English, especially in Brussels and other large...
  11. I sympathize - my office mates know I have gluten issues, and they try to take it into consideration for the most part - but the company as a whole does not. We'll have summer picnics, holiday luncheon, etc. and there won't be anything much that's safe for me, so I tend to bring my own food. This one sucks: there's an employee luncheon next month. It's at...
  12. Going gluten free seems to have resolved most of my migraines. I still get them with my monthly cycle and if I accidentally have gluten. They vary in severity - before going gluten free I had low-level headaches that would last for several days as well as very severe migraines with nausea and vomiting that would keep me in bed for 1-2 days. I never found...
  13. Just wondering if you've been tested for vitamin deficiency. Low levels of magnesium and vitamin d, among other things, can contribute to migraines.
  14. Tons of places have gluten-free options, including many Italian restaurants. Quite a few are starting to offer a gluten free menu online or at the restaurant. Some places will accommodate gluten free requests if you call ahead. I don't know where you live, but I encourage you to google 'gluten free restaurants' in your area and see what comes up. There...
  15. I've struggled with that question. I've had the blood tests, but I haven't had the 'gold standard' biopsy - and I've made up my mind that I won't do it. It doesn't seem worth it - especially since tests can still come out negative - even the biopsy. You can also have many of the same symptoms as celiacs, but yet be 'just' gluten intolerant. There was a...
  16. Yes - I get very emotional and generally feel depressed/weepy. Also get a very short fuse and am irritated by EVERYTHING. Just ask my fiance - he can always tell when I ate something because of my emotional response.
  17. Yesterday... Breakfast: Leftover homemade tacos (ground beef, avocado, onion, tomatillos), coffee Snack: 2 mini gluten free cupcakes from Whole Foods, raw veggies Lunch: Curried potato/beef stew w/corn chips, pear Dinner: Rest of the leftover tacos - see above, 1 redbridge beer Snack: Beef tamale Today: Breakfast: Eggs & tomatillo tacos Snack...
  18. Plain grilled or broiled chicken, rice & cooked veggies should all be easy to digest. Plain gluten-free cereal (rice checks, maybe?) might be a good snacking choice, too. Also gluten free vegetable or chicken broth or a chicken & rice or veggie soup would be easy and would help to up your liquid intake. I've found a good probiotic to be very helpful...
  19. Yesterday: Breakfast - Leftover curried beef & potato stew w/tortillas, coffee Snack - Banana, handful of walnuts, coffee Lunch - Large salad w/hard-boiled egg and pumpkin seeds Snack - Blackberries Dinner - Leftover gluten free ravioli and gluten free pizza bread, glass red wine Snack/desert - Large bowl of popcorn, 1/2 pack M&Ms Mint...
  20. My fiancee has gone almost totally gluten-free (he splurges occasionally at the office or with friends). He's found he actually feels better without the gluten - less tired and more energy. We eat a pretty healthy diet anyway (fruits, veggies, whole non-gluten grains, grass-fed beef & pork) so it's not like fewer processed foods is the reason or anything...
  21. Yesterday: Breakfast: two corn tortillas w/avocado, tomatillos, lime juice, salt, cilantro, red onion, coffee, cup of whole grain milk Snack: banana w/handful of walnuts, more coffee Lunch: Big salad w/hard boiled egg and pumpkin seeds Snack: Blackberries Dinner: Steamed cauliflower w/almonds, avocado and beet salad Dessert: Scoop of coconut...
  22. Almost all the lettuce entertain you restaurants have extensive gluten free menus and they are all around the Chicago area. Wildfire and some of the others above are part of their network. See here for all the gluten-free options at their restaurants: Open Original Shared Link If you happen to go into the burbs, Daluciano's in River Grove is really good...
  23. My experience is U.S. based, but I've been to several summer music & camping festivals, and I have found at least some awareness of celiac and gluten - and some of the vegan/veggie options may work - rice and beans, for example. That said, I worry about cross contamination, so I'm planning to pack my own food this summer. Some vegan suggestions....
  24. Lufthansa DOES offer gluten free meals. I've flown it twice, and both meals were ok. I think it was chicken w/polenta and veggies - plus they provide gluten free bread (not great - it's a German rice bread and is kinda crumbly and dry - but you can eat it!) and fresh fruit cup. They also gave me a gluten-free date & nut bar that was pretty good. There...
  25. I'll bite... yesterday: Breakfast: Pear, coffee, 2 corn tortillas, 1/2 avocado w/lime juice Lunch: Tamale, 1/2 orange After workout snack: Celery sticks w/almond butter, coconut water Dinner: Hamburger patty w/2 corn tortillas, veggies, and other half of morning avocado, handful of tater tots, 1 redbridge beer Desert: Coconut mint chocolate...
