ARCHIVED Products For Curly Hair
ndw3363 replied to NJceliac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use the kinky curly products - I buy them at Whole Foods. I use the shampoo every other day, and the conditioner every day. I use the custard (gel) to style everyday - apply before I get out of the shower while my hair is soaking wet - then wrap in an old tshirt (less friction than a towel). I used to use DivaCurl, but my head was breaking out constantly... -
ARCHIVED Almond Butter Vs Peanut Butter
ndw3363 replied to jlvshopper's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And just like a lot of other things, it depends on the brand you try as well. I tried a couple different brands - some I loved, some I hated! If I hadn't tried others after the ones I hated, I would never have found my new favorite midday protein snack! I love Justin's, but also just recently found Barney Butter - totally different flavor! Tastes like... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed By Dentist With Grinding Of Teeth
ndw3363 replied to MikeOhio's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I too was told to get a mouth guard. But you are right...even with insurance, mine was going to be almost $400!! I decided against it. Plus, my chiropractor said that longterm use of a mouth guard can cause other problems (misalignment of the jaw). I read an interesting fact - the only time your teeth should touch is when you are chewing. When I think... -
ARCHIVED What Does It Feel Like When You Can't Tolerate Eggs?
ndw3363 replied to mesmerize's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The thread came back at the exact perfect moment. I have been feeling "off" the past week - I am trying to be as grain free as possible because I just can't tolerate them (skin rashes show up along with some lovely girl problems - every..single..time!!). So in an attempt to eat more protein, I've been eating hard boiled eggs for breakfast - by the time... -
ARCHIVED Michelob Ultra Lite Cider
ndw3363 replied to Christine0125's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hope it's not as sweet as some of the other ciders. I can't seem to handle anything sweet anymore, but most of the gluten-free beer just doesn't do it for me. I have a BBQ this Saturday - might have to pick some up and give it try! Thanks for posting this! -
I don't have company often, but when I do, it's gluten-free all the way. I have a broiled tilapia recipe that everyone loves, served with roasted sweet potato and broccoli. Other things are enchiladas, taco salad, pork chops breaded with crushed gluten-free cornflakes (a family favorite even among gluten eaters), and my favorite for fancy meals...tuna steaks...

ARCHIVED Serious Relief From Apple Cider Vinegar
ndw3363 replied to MitziG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Leslie - I've read that you absolutely should NOT brush your teeth immediately after drinking ACV because the acid makes your enamel soft - brushing immediately afterwards will harm your enamel. Better idea is to either use a straw to drink it, or wait at least an hour after drinking it to brush your teeth. Swish with some water afterwards too. I drink... -
ARCHIVED Granite City, Cedar Rapids Iowa
ndw3363 replied to MindytheOrganist's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Same with the one here in Indianapolis - their gluten-free flat breads are delicious!! I was told they were taking them off the actual menu, but would continue to make them on request. Manager I spoke to was very nice and helpful -
Welcome to Indy in advance! I can't really help on the bakery items because I'm mostly grain free, but we do have some great restaurants that have an abundance of gluten free offerings. Pizza - Monical's, Mellow Mushroom, Puccini's, Uno, Harry & Izzy's. Granite City also has an awesome gluten-free flat bread (I think they took it off the menu, but...

ARCHIVED Nowhere Left To Go But Insane
ndw3363 replied to GlutenFreeRampage's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had to laugh a little (not at your expense obviously) while reading this, because I'm having that kind of day too. It just pisses me off that everyone (ok not EVERYONE, but you know what I mean) else can just wander into in a restaurant, or order greasy chinese takeout and all they have to worry about is the short term calorie bomb. Now, I'm not saying... -
I have been having a lot of really lightheaded days and I'm wondering if it's not a reaction to legumes. Some days I'm just fine, others (like today), I'm a mess! I had black bean burritos last night (corn tortillas of course) and within a couple hours, I was feeling dizzy. It's more a feeling of not being fully present if that makes any sense. I can...

ARCHIVED Which Probiotics
ndw3363 replied to JustNana's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Nana - I always thought I had too much acid as well and antacids never seemed to help much. My doctor told me I was actually low acid - I started taking HCl supplements with meals and wow what a difference. I no longer have reflux, gas or bloating after meals. Also, if you are prone to infections (fungal, bacterial, etc), that could be another sign... -
ARCHIVED Trying Candida/scd Type Diet
ndw3363 replied to kaygato's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I don't really have many tips except to push through the cravings. Due to some other issues I was having, I had to give up sugar/carbs a couple years ago...the first couple weeks were brutal (first three or four days I was UNPLEASANT to be around)...but after your body adjusts a bit, your really stop craving it. I haven't had a soda in over 4 years (used... -
ARCHIVED Can Exercise Speed Up/help Healing Time?
ndw3363 replied to Gfresh404's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not sure about it speeding up healing time, but I have noticed that when I do exercise, I feel so much better. When I'm working out regularly, I have more energy...but I think this also has to do with the fact that if I'm working out all the time, I eat healthier and drink a lot of water. Working out just makes me FEEL healthier, so obviously I don... -
ARCHIVED Chinese Restaurant Question?
ndw3363 replied to King-Danilo92's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Oh how I want that to be true!!! Is it one of those hole-in-the-wall places, or a chain? I miss Chinese food so badly - my newest problem is soy, so I have trouble even going to PF Changs which was my favorite for years!! Hope you get more answers on this one...I'm completely curious now myself! -
Ok, so before going gluten-free, I was never a vegetable eater. But once you take most of the sugar out of your diet, things start to taste different. So I've been a veggie eater for the past year and been loving it. However, broccoli was always one of those veggies that I could only eat in very small pieces and usually smothered in something not healthy...

ARCHIVED New York And Indianapolis
ndw3363 replied to UKGail's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I live in Indianapolis and we do have some restaurants that may work for you. Not sure since you seem to be super sensitive to even the environment of the establishment. If this is true, you may have to do take out, but you would know best for that. I don't know of any strictly gluten free restaurants in the area. My favorite sit down restaurant is Cooper... -
ARCHIVED Breads By Anna
ndw3363 replied to fantasticalice's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No kidding right? I tried samples of these at the Gluten Free Expo awhile back here in Indiana and I was tempted to buy every variety! I didn't though since I'm desperately trying to keep that type of stuff out of my house, but SO good! I will buy some to have around for parties or treats once I start feeling better again! -
I agree with Kim...I've changed over to a whole foods diet (mostly) and it really does make a difference. There are days, like today, that I desperately wish I could get a pizza or Chinese food cause I'm exhausted and really don't want to cook tonight. But I'll just broil up some fish (takes less than 10 minutes) and have that with veggies - I'll feel much...

ARCHIVED Cream Of Wheat Replacement
ndw3363 replied to sariesue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat the Bob's Redmill Mighty Tasty gluten-free Hot Cereal (I buy it at Whole Foods or Kroger) - I add some vanilla almond milk and a touch of sugar to it, and it's a VERY good replacement for Cream of Wheat. I actually think I like it better than cream of wheat. You can add all kinds of stuff to it...maple syrup, cinnamon, fruit, etc. Directions on the... -
ARCHIVED Sad, Worried, Sad, Sad, Sad, Worried, Etc.
ndw3363 replied to varthurs's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I too have grieved the "loss" of some of my favorites. However, the hardest part for me is the feeling that I'm now "high maintenance" when it comes to food. Whenever I'm out and about (errands, shopping, vacation, etc) I always have to wonder where my next safe meal is coming from. I used to be very go with the flow, but now I really have to plan ahead... -
I've been feeling that way this week, but I know it's not gluten. I've been gluten-free for a year now - lately I've been having some problems with candida (my wine intake went up a bit over the holidays). This week I've been on a high protein, low carb/sugar diet and I am CRANKY!! But like everything else, I know it will pass. Whenever my body acts up...

ARCHIVED I Want Macaroni And Cheese!
ndw3363 replied to lc1333's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use the Kraft cheese packet as well, but I make mine with Quinoa pasta instead of the rice pasta. I've tried every brand of rice pasta I can find, and I just don't like it. So yes, I feel weird buying regular Kraft mac and cheese and then wasting food by throwing away the pasta, but I figure I only do this about once or twice a month, so it's my treat... -
Me too - migraine is the first signal that I ate something I shouldn't have. And they are so specific - unlike any other migraine I've ever had. And I could take the whole bottle of advil (obviously I wouldn't), and it wouldn't touch it. It was as if my brain was telling me that there are no short cuts and I just had to ride out the pain and try to never...

ARCHIVED Bacterial Overgrowth
ndw3363 replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is why regular doctors scare me. Here take this super potent antibiotic on a hunch that I have - no I'm not going to run any tests first - this IS the test. UGH!!! It's that kind of thinking that got me started with this whole journey 4 years ago! I thought I had a UTI so went to the dr. He said, no infection could be found but here take this antibiotic...
