  1. Ok, so I haven't tried them yet, but I was so excited I couldn't wait to share. Today at Kroger (in the organic section), I found gluten-free CONDENSED cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soups. They are made by Pacific Natural Foods. All I need to do now is dig out some my old recipes that I thought I would never use again. Here's hoping!! I'll report...
  2. So I've been gluten-free since February. Had a few hiccups with the diet early on (some accidental, some just me being angry and trying to prove that gluten is NOT the problem...lol, it IS!!), but otherwise I have been feeling really good. Fast forward to the last 3 weeks...I had to travel for work, almost 4 weeks ago, which meant eating away from home...
  3. My favorite recipe is pecan crusted chicken with mustard sauce. Pound chicken breasts thin, use food processor to chop up pecans with some cornstarch, dip chicken in egg then in pecan mixture (add any seasonings you like). Pan fry in a little oil until done (flipping half way through). The sauce is 2 parts mayo to 1 part dijon mustard. Add a pinch of...
  4. I want real NY style pizza so bad - and I've been craving it since the second I found out I couldn't have it anymore (which was almost 5 months ago). I've tried various gluten-free pizza crusts and it's just not the same - and it's not worth the heavy feeling I get after eating carbs to eat anything but the real thing. But I recently (last night) found...
  5. My system hates carbs as well - but I have yet to cut them all out (I'm not as strong as you). But I would think if you increased the amount of fat and kept your calories a bit higher, that you should be ok. Your body will shed a few pounds initially after cutting it all out, but I would think that it will adjust to your new diet eventually. I cut out...
  6. Well it depends - when you took gluten out of your diet, did you replace it with a lot of processed gluten free foods? I have found that I can't tolerate most of that stuff. I have to eat mostly freshly prepared foods with the occasional "treat" - but even then I just end up feeling heavy so it's not really a treat. I stay away from most gluten free breads...
  7. Bladder pain was one of my first symptoms. It lead me to a doctor who put me on two rounds of antibiotics. Which gave me candida problems for 3 years (still fighting it, but winning a little at a time). What worked for me was cutting out starches and sugar for awhile and drink A LOT of water. I try not to drink much - it seems to bring it back every time...
  8. Went to a seminar for work today at Maggianos. They typically have a few choices served family style on the table for everyone to share. I informed the restuarant a day ahead that I was attending the seminar and had a gluten problem. When I arrived, I informed one of the servers that I was the one with the gluten problem and she was very polite and informed...
  9. I totally understand the mourning process. I too don't have an official diagnosis - and I did "test" it a couple weeks ago. BIG mistake - but one that I'm glad I made. Now every time I get the urge to have "just a bite", I remember how awful I felt for over a week. Just not worth it. Sure bringing my food and having to plan ahead ALL the time is really...
  10. I found them at Kroger in Indiana. Made rice krispie treats this past weekend and they were awesome!!! We add chocolate chips to ours and they are so good. Didn't tell my bf that I used the gluten-free version and he didn't notice a difference - YAY!!! Finally a dessert that I can make for both of us!
  11. I feel your pain - literally. Unfortunately there isn't a lot that can be done. I've noticed that the things that worked best for me were cold compresses and white vinegar. Only very temporary relief, but sometimes even 15 minutes without scratching can be a godsend. I would normally take a cold shower at night because mine was always worse in the evening...
  12. It was the only thing I had that was different from normal. Leftover taco salad for lunch (make it ALL the time with no problems), pecan crusted chicken for dinner (again, make it at least once a week with no issues) and lots of water to drink. That's it!! The only thing out of the ordinary was the wine. Never in all my life have I been physically sick...
  13. I really can't imagine that I got glutened by white wine (since I've had plenty before) - but Monday night, I had a couple glasses of Cavit Pinot Grigio - and it hit me HARD! I'm used to being a little loopy after two glasses of wine all before dinner, but I was drunk drunk. So much so that it made me sick later. Then I had terrible D and stomach cramping...

    ARCHIVED Chili's

I rather enjoyed my Chili's gluten free dining experience. Our waitress was aware of what I could and could not have - I was going to have cheese on my side salad, and she suggested that I not since it might not be safe. I had ribs with a baked potato and side salad - delicious and no issues. I never order anything that comes from a fryer when I'm out...
  15. Are these sold fresh or frozen? I haven't been able to find them at my Whole Foods (but the website shows both stores as places to find them). I didn't ask anyone the last time I was there, but I will next time. Just curious where I should be concentrating my search. Thanks!!
  16. Since going gluten-free, I have tried every brand of brown rice pasta I could find. Some were terrible, some were decent...but none were great. Until I found quinoa pasta...this stuff is sooo good. It's just like eating the real stuff - even my gluten eating bf tried it and said it tasted the same as his regular pasta. I actually think it's a bit lighter...
  17. I have had negative blood test and skin biopsy results. But I don't need an official diagnosis to convince me to stop eating gluten. When I have it, I feel terrible...when I don't, I feel better. Good enough for me! Since going gluten free, I put weight back on (which is good but it happened rather quickly which was a little of a bummer - time to get...

    ARCHIVED Low Hcl

I do (I'm type A blood too). My chiropractor put me on an HCl supplement that I take after my first bite of food (now only need it when I'm eating red meat or a heavy meal) and then I take digestive enzymes after a meal. Has really helped me. For the longest time, I thought I had heartburn because the pain is exactly the same. So I was taking antacids...
  19. I love that this topic was brought up - because I've been doing some additional reading today and it's amazing to watch the pieces fall into place. A few months ago (before I learned of the gluten problem), my chiropractor gave me a Hydrochloric Acid supplement to take when eating protein because I was having digestive issues. She said my body wasn't making...
  20. I too am A+ - I read some of the book, but wasn't ready to follow the diet. As soon as I saw that I shouldn't be a meat eater, I put the book down (lol). But I've been gluten-free from almost 2 months and I still feel like crap. Guess it's time to dust it off and give it a try. Can't hurt right?
  21. DH is the only thing I have found through my extensive research that matches my symptoms. I have had two biopsies done and blood tests. All negative - not one antibody. Everything else that I read fits with celiac and DH - but in the absense of an actual diagnosis, I'm having a hard time justifying staying on this brutal diet. Not that I'm a huge "carb...
  22. Thank you for starting this thread! This symptom is how my hell began. Three years ago, I thought I was getting a UTI (got them all the time in college) so of course I made an appointment with my GP. He said "well I don't see any evidence of infection, but here's an antibiotic". I had no reason not to trust him. Of course, antibiotic didn't work so he...
  23. I'm beginning to think that I have to give up dairy and soy too, but then what will I eat?? What would you use instead of butter? How can I ever eat sushi again without soy? I've been able to get past the whole "never gonna have a slice of real pizza again" thing, but now I have to give up butter?? And sour cream?? And I'm actually a healthy eater!!...
  24. Apparently I read forum posts!! LOL! I've been in a fog all day today...but didn't eat a very healthy lunch either. I suppose I'll try to get some work done Def go with cleaning out email and filing.
  25. I may not have the best answers because I am relatively new to this myself (gluten-free 5 weeks), but I had noticed my depression was getting pretty bad. I still have moments (some are tied to mourning the things I can't eat anymore, some are just hormones), but I have been slowly feeling better. The sex drive still comes and goes, but it's steadily getting...
