  1. When I finally went gluten-free, I was extremely underweight (which is what brought me to the diagnosis in the first place). After I went gluten-free, I felt the same as you are describing. My body was FINALLY absorbing what I was putting it in and it couldn't seem to get enough. I rewarded it with a treat or two, but be aware that you are healing...a...
  2. Blood draw is tomorrow morning, so I'm hopeful I'll have some answers by this time next week. I will definitely ask for a copy of my results this time - I've had my thyroid checked before and they always just say "it's normal" - which of course in Dr speak means it simply falls in the "normal" range - in my opinion if you are on the cusp of the low or high...
  3. I recently made a chicken sausage and peppers meal that has fed me lunch for 3 days so far. Basic recipe is potatoes, onion, red bell pepper, and cut up chicken Italian sausage (you can of course use regular as long as it's gluten-free). Roast it all in the oven and voila - lunch!! Since I don't eat white potatoes, I substituted sweet potatoes. I also...
  4. Ok, so I'm aware it's still winter, but I'm cold ALL the time! I do workout a lot and I know I burn a lot of calories, but this is ridiculous. Last night I had the heat turned up, was wearing layers, had the heating pad on (along with warm kitty in the lap), and drinking hot tea. I still felt chilly. I've been trying to eat more lately since my energy...
  5. May I ask about the jaw problem? Do you think it's related to your corn intolerance? I ask because over the last month I have developed INTENSE right side jaw pain that feels completely different from any TMJ issue I've had in the past. Sometimes it's fine (a little sore, but nothing major), other times I can barely open my mouth! I have a doctor appt...
  6. Someone already mentioned yeast, which I definitely have a problem with. Could be a mold allergy as well - some of the harder cheeses have higher mold content (not just the visable kind in bleu cheese). I can tolerate whey protein (in small amounts and without added sugar), cream cheese and such, but some of the hard cheeses bother me as well - which is...
  7. I too have this same problem - grain free is really helping. May I ask what supplements you are taking? I've been experimenting with various things, but would love to know what worked for you. Glad you found an answer!!
  8. I know the feeling well - and I share your pain. I too have trouble with Candida - and I notice my carb/sugar cravings are SO much worse after I've "cheated" and had something in that category. Most recently I was eating gluten-free snickerdoodles with cream cheese frosting...so good, but SO bad! In this instance, your body is craving things that are bad...
  9. I'm in your same boat - been here for 5 years. I've tried everything under the sun to get rid of candida (threelac, caprylic acid, pau d'arco, garlic, blah blah blah). Only thing that keeps things at bay for me is a strict no grain, no alcohol diet. Which of course, is no fun at all. When I'm ridiculously strict about it, I do feel better. But I slip...
  10. My local Kroger used to sell them...but they don't anymore. Only place I can find them is Meijer (well, Walmart might have them, but I have a very hard time going in there). Normally Meijer is out of stock when I look for them (I'm thinking some local celiac has a homemade rice krispie treat addiction problem) Recently used a gluten-free puffed rice cereal...
  11. To anyone that has successfully beaten leaky gut/candida - were you ever able to go back to eating grains (gluten-free of course)? I am able to control my symptoms most of the time - but I like to have a glass of wine on a date or with my girlfriends. I like to eat safe Mexican food - found a restaurant with great gluten-free bread and pasta options - dying...
  12. My sister-in-law and I went nuts making both regular and gluten-free desserts on Thanksgiving and no one even made it to them! So for Christmas, she's making some cookies and I'm making gluten-free Rice Krispy Treats - easy stuff to pack up and send home with everyone. However, bc I came up with this plan today, I've been craving a rice krispy treat ALL...
  13. Yes, but I think the point some are trying to make is that just because patients felt "symptom free" doesn't mean they weren't redoing all the damage to their systems. Once completely healed, I'm sure plenty of people could go back to eating whatever they wanted with no symptoms...however, months or years down the road, they would be right back to where...
  14. How did your dr. test for yeast overgrowth? Was it your GP that did it? I need to find a new GP because getting my current one to give me anything besides antacids (which would be awful since I have LOW stomach acid...she doesn't believe me) and antidepressants (because clearly I need that to tackle my stress...has nothing to do with food). I try...
  15. I have the bladder issue with sugar too. About 20-30 min after eating sugar, my face (on the sides of my nose) gets bright red and starts to sting a little. Then my scalp starts to flake and itch like crazy. Usually followed by headache the next day (base of skull) and fatigue.
  16. I use those as well for Cream of mushroom recipes. But the Golden mushroom soup has such a different flavor that I have no idea how to recreate it. Thanks for the replies. Funny about hiding mushrooms from your family - I made a vegetable lasagna for my family once using chunks of portabellos - my young cousin asked what they were (she was afraid of mushrooms...
  17. I have a few recipes that I miss terribly, but that I haven't made in years because they call for using Campbell's Golden Mushroom soup. Anyone know of a substitute or how I could make it myself? Crockpot season is starting, so all the old recipes are calling to me! :-)
  18. Glad to hear that the one you go to seems to go out of their way to accomodate! I do have a question though - since there is no information on their website, how do you know that the roast beef and tuna are both NOT gluten-free? Just curious! :-)
  19. Only things I make with the gluten-free bisquick is the sausage balls and the spinach balls. Made the gluten-free version of the sausage balls and no one in the family noticed a difference. Had to tweet the recipe a bit because they came out much drier than the original if I followed the directions to a T (I will use 3/4 cup bisquick per pound of sausage...
  20. chicken breasts with creamy vegetable topping (cream cheese, red pepper, carrot, green onion) with roasted broccoli. Cannot wait to get home cause I'm already starving!
  21. I have been gluten-free for almost two years - great results (my weight is steady, skin cleared up, migraines stopped, gas/bloating stopped, etc). I was still having some symptoms that drove me nuts...brain fog, oily face, dandruff, moody...so I went mostly grain/sugar free as well. That definitely helps - much harder to stick to since I'm a snacker. When...
  22. Funyuns are one of my weaknesses - so weird. I don't buy them because I can't just grab a handful and walk away - I'll end up eating the whole bag, finding crumbs everywhere and feeling gross for two days!
  23. Pacific Foods makes some condensed soups that are pretty good - I like the crm of chicken better than the crm of mushroom personally, but in recipes you don't really notice the difference as much. Open Original Shared Link
  24. That is my favorite potato casserole - we make it in the oven and I top mine with buttered cornflakes (the gluten-free ones of course). Always always make it for Easter with ham.
  25. That's the same recipe I used two years ago! How funny - I'm planning on doing it again only this time with gluten-free bread. Ok, now I want turkey and stuffing.
